We stayed 6 nights as part of a trip for my partners 40th. We didn't really look at any other hotels as my partner wanted to stay here due to the history of the place. We had a basic king room which was very spacious and a big bathroom. We arrived to a lovely cakes and champagne chilling which was a really nice tough - Thanks! The property has been modernised over the years and it has that cool, Hollywood laid back vibe. We had good service at all times and really enjoyed our star spotting stay, its not cheap but we would stay again, it's a stones throw from Sunset Strip.
"An L.A. Treasure for Business & Pleasure"
Love this property and the team that makes it a perfect place to call home during business trips to Los Angeles. The restaurant and staff are incredible... being able to use the facilities at Equinox which is a short walk away (very short!) is a huge bonus. Spacious rooms and prime location in West Hollywood make Sunset Marquis one of my top two Hotels in all of Los Angeles!
"Amazing vibe, staff and history"
We, regrettably, only spent one night at the Sunset Marquis. Hotel with a very laid back vibe, spacious rooms and a stylish garden. Add a few pools, a bar, a restaurant and some rock 'n' roll history and you end up with a very cool, high end hotel. We stayed in the main building and had a twin queen room with a separate living room. It was massive. Plenty of room for up to 4 adults. We had a few drinks at the bar before heading to the Rainbow Bar & Grill just up the road and had a great night out and a good nights sleep. The next morning we wandered round the amazing grounds and villas. Back at the restaurant we found a wonderful selection of made to order breakfast options and we all agreed it was one of the best breakfasts we had ever had (juicy fresh fruit, fluffy pancakes and great(!) coffee). Staff was helpful and even drew directions on the map so we could pass the Hollywood sign on the way out of town. I think the only negatives I could come up with are the price (still worth it!) and the fact I left my electric toothbrush behind in the room.
"Relaxing, Comfortable Stay, Steeped in Rock and Roll History"
Sunset Marquis is a lovely hotel. Quiet and relaxing. The staff were very pleasant and friendly, and despite its rich rock and roll history, it’s not a pretentious hotel. We enjoyed chatting with the bar staff at Bar 1200 before heading out on an evening. The location, just off Sunset, is excellent which makes is walking distance to bars and restaurants on the strip, or a longer stroll down to Santa Monica. A couple of streets East there are some nice older roads lined with lovely villas, and the area is steeped in West Hollywood history. The spacious rooms (as opposed to the villas) are located around the central courtyard with a nice pool. They are well appointed, with an amazingly comfortable bed and huge, powerful shower. We had a second floor corner room with a large balcony that had a nice sofa to relax on in the evening, before heading out to enjoy the fun of Sunset. The villas are dotted around in the lush gardens behind the main hotel, where there’s a second pool and the restaurant, Catavina. The décor of the hotel highlights the rock history, with fantastic photos from the Morrison Hotel gallery lining the walls. The corridors are dark and rooms on the minimalist side – although very comfortable – so it’s got a nice cool vibe, but this isn’t the hotel for you if you like plush carpets and ornate décor. If you love music and want to chill out, this is the place.
Quiet, beautiful with a fabulous rock n roll history of who's who. We loved that it did not matter who you are, you're a guest. There were "name" guests there who received the same impeccable service as we did. We all interacted with no regard for status. You don't have to be hip and cool. You just have to be. Nobody running around with cameras taking photos. Discreet and anonymous are the words of the day, every day. The tragically hip that tried too hard to be cool were only a slight annoyance. Food at the restaurant was very good. Enjoyed the brunch tremendously. The only drawback are the hangers on who camp out in the restaurant for hours on end hoping to see someone famous and the whiners who discover they cannot wander the grounds or dine poolside with the guests. That is what we pay for-solitude from the masses and a quiet place to just be, Villas are private and lovely. Many secluded ways of entering without being seen by everyone. Every possible thing is already thought of and waiting for you. If not, call and it appears. Loved the service. Loved the villa. Loved the people. Loved the solitude. The walk through the villas at night is magical.
