"Deserves its reputation. 🙄"
I stayed here for 5 days doing a few concerts in/around LA. Many of the bands stayed there and you can see why. Understated. Straightforward. Pretty good food but feels small and intimate despite being set in over 4 acres! Restaurant is great for breakfast. Good staff too. Rooms are great. Especially the nice ones. Only fault is the coffee is poor. In whatever guise you order it.
"Very Nice Hotel in a good Area"
My wife and I visited this hotel on our recent trip to the USA. We spent 4 days in LA and the hotel was perfect for what we needed. We arrived at the hotel after a short flight and drive from Vegas. We checked in and our bags were taken to our room for us. We got to our room and on the table were a frozen desert with "Happy 30th Birthday" written in chocolate and a bottle of bubbly for our wedding anniversary!! A very nice touch indeed and more than we got in Las Vegas!! The room was very clean and we had a view over the pool which was lit up at night with some floating coloured balls. The hotel is situated very near to Sunset Blvd. This has got some great eating spots on the bar had a nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly. Thanks Sunset!!
"Short Stay in West Hollywood"
Cool place to relax. We liked how quiet and peaceful the hotel was. Great location, just steps to Sunset. Really comfortable beds and friendly staff. Had fun closing the lobby bar down too! Cool rock-n-roll history.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Sunset Marquis for 2 days, and had a wonderful time. The hotel itself is nice, if nothing special - spacious rooms, comfortable beds, incredibly nice bathrooms, though in need of perhaps some updating and some deep cleaning of the walls and floors - but the staff could not have been more friendly, accomodating, and just, generally, wonderful. Frankly, that's why I'm writing this - I'm not someone who usually finds it necessary to review places, but everyone, from the bartender to the clerks, to the housekeepers, to the valet, the staff was so kind and personable that I felt obliged to shout them out. There's a reason this hotel is so special, and it all stems from the people who work there. This isn't the height of luxury (at least, if you don't stay in the villas), but it's a terrific experience thanks to the delightful staff.
The best thing about Sunset Marquis is Cavatina, the outdoors restaurant set in the middle of the property amongst the jungle-like foliage. The rest of the property could do with a good scrub and tidy up. The whiff of marijuana around is interesting but makes sense given some of the clientele. The front desk and concierge staff very friendly and competent. But it does feel like their best years are behind them. If you're looking for a villa-Luke experience, then their rooms are larger than normal. It's definitely 3 star. Shame as the location is excellent!
