I stayed here for the second time on a business trip - I can honestly say I don't have a single bad thing to say about this hotel. The service is great - I needed a room change and it was sorted instantly without a million questions, I needed my coffee machine "repaired" - the service guy was there within 2 minutes (actually , it was fine , .. i just failed to work out how to use it). Lots of attention to detail - for example the cute pattern of arranging the tubes of body wash in the shower - a little thing but that is the point - "attention to detail". Breakfast was good - plenty of selection and always fresh. Very central and spotlessly clean. A really great stay.
"Great Jing'an location"
Perfect location for a stay in Shanghai. Very active commercial neighbourhood with plenty of restaurants and malls in the area. Hotel is clean, with a spacious and attractive lobby. The restaurant at level two offers some delicious Shanghainese cuisine options. Negative points to consider: breakfast is definitely not worth the €30 charge, with a basic spread typical of establishments at lower service class; lobby bar prices similarly extortionate; efficient service throughout, but mostly cold, unsmiling and aloof.
I have been at this hotel twice. It is very central as it is on Nanjing Road. Rooms are quite large and convenient. Service however is just average. Breakfast service is not very good. A colleague of mine checked in and he was told he was getting an upgrade to executive floor. When he asked what does the upgrade mean, he finally found out that the only difference on the executive floor is that the room has got ... a coffee machine. The hotel has been acquired by Accor but I am not sure if it is part of le Club fidelity program yet.
I'm on a month-long business trip in China, Shanghai being my second stop where I'm staying for two weeks. I'm totally blown away by the level of attentiveness and service shown by Sandy (Manager responsible for breakfast shift) and her chef. The food in the pic may be simple stuff but It totally warmed my heart on a Sat morning. As mentioned, I'm here got two weeks and this is my 6th day here. By yesterday, I was getting bored with the variety of food. Same porridge every day, no change to ingredient unlike Fairmont Beijing where I stayed in last week. Same type of noodles etc. There is a wide spread of food but I don't eat most of those. First world problem I know. I gave feedback to Sandy yesterday, citing it will be nice to mix it up a little and I said I understand that perhaps most visitors are here for 2-3 days, there's little need to. Just a feedback, not expecting anything. This morning, she n her chef turned up w these food, made specially for me. This is service, and I've been most impressed! Totally blown away. Keep up the fantastic work, Swissotel Grand. By the way, this hotel is in a great location. Room is clean with comfortable bed and pillow choices (thank you for having the memory foam pillow - saved my neck!)
"In the heart of Shanghai"
Walk to Jing 'An Temple, the Metro, plenty of shopping and lots of restaurants. Hop on line 2 at Hongqiao Airport and ride 7 stops to Jing'An. Exit 3 is just a few steps to the hotel entrance. There is a convenience store across the street. The nice thing about Jing'An area is that there are a lot of restaurants. Many are open late and a few are open 24 hours. The department store behind the hotel has nice restaurants on the top floors and many eateries in the basement. There is also a gourmet grocery store there. The breakfast is pretty good at the Swissotel. Service is fantastic.
