Like many of the other reviews - I am (still) here for a work business trip. Although my stay is not yet complete, I feel compelled to write the review now. In terms of the hotel, like the other reviews, it is fine. Good location quickly and easily accessible to the main station, there's a restaurant in the hotel with a few others very close and a Starbucks. The rooms are fine, clean and decent sized compared to other big city hotel rooms. I don't know if it is a 'lost in translation' situation, me being sensitive or if I am reading it correctly but I've found the front desk gentleman to be a bit haughty. My corporate rate includes internet - something I was not told at check in. When speaking with a colleague, he told me this. However, I was prompted to enter my credit card details when I tried to connect to the wifi the first day. The following day, I asked the front desk about this and was met with a somewhat unhelpful response of "that's too bad, it's not refundable". OK, thanks for your help... It was implied there wasstupidity on my part but the internet was supposed to connect automatically with my room number and it did not because the hotel did not set it up properly and then I am told "too bad, it's not refundable."
I spent just two nights at this hotel, mainly because they offered a very good rate at that time. I had a double room for single use (on 24th floor) which was very well appointed and comfortable, though it might have been on the small side for two people. Internet is free when you join the Swissotel Circle programme (which is also free). Staff were very friendly and experienced, and as a Swiss myself, I was quite amused to see not a single Swiss working at the hotel. The location is the best thing about the hotel, with trains, trams (streetcars) and buses stopping right in front of the hotel. It's actually located between the airport and the city, so supremely convenient both for business and pleasure. The city of Oerlikon is not terribly exciting in terms of places to eat/drink, shops or things to do and the hotel's restaurant with the jolly name of Le Muh is not a particular highlight either. The menu is limited, the service rather careless, but the adjacent bar is obviously a popular meeting point for the locals, so often full and noisy towards the late afternoon. Sadly, from the outside, the hotel is really not very attractive, but it's best not to dwell on that and instead enjoy the rather more appealing interiour. For the same attractive rate, I would happily stay there again.
"Excellent business hotel"
The Swissotel is an excellent choice for the business traveller to the Oerlikon or Glattpark area. It is well served by train station or multiple tram lines (though parking is expensive). The receptionists are both friendly and efficient. The lobby and hotel has a great Swiss design vibe to it. The rooms are functional and have very good views. The TV has a broad range of channels and the wifi works fine. On the 32 floor is a Jacuzzi and small pool with spectacular views. It also has a sauna and steam room for quiet relaxation. The gym is cramped with 2 running, 2 bike, 1 crosswalker, 1 walker in a small area so it does get a bit hot. You can go running outside to the Kaferberg park for a 7 – 10 km loop with lovely views of Zurich, though the first and last 1.5km is running along street footpaths. Or 2.5km to Schwamendingen Mitte for the large Zurichberg forest including a Parcour Vita. The bar and restaurant are always full and have a buzzing vibe to it. . The breakfast quality is outstanding with wonderful juices, great birchermuesli, and well made omelettes and egg dishes. The servers in the morning and evening are always most enthusiastic. Dinner is good with my favourite being the fish. Other hotel options can be functional but quiet, soulless and a bit depressing for a week’s commute. The Swissotel has a liveliness to it that brightens up the week.
"Technologically advanced infrastructure"
The hotel is located right in front of the train station. Highly equipped. technologically very advanced. terrace pool was great. rooms were small but comfortable and modern. breakfast spread was plentiful but limited for vegetarians. restaurant staff was helpful. overall, comfortable stay.
"Solid business hotel"
Located right next to the Oerlikon train station in the little village, this was a good place for a couple of nights near my office. One stop and 4 minutes to the airport and 2-3 stops and 10 minutes to the main train station in Zurich, this is a very nice location. Clean and Spartan with a high tech vibe, the beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. The bathroom was a bit small and the bath/shower had the standard European half shower door and hand shower which meant that I managed to get the floor wet both mornings. The restaurant has a nice and complete breakfast buffet and there are a few restaurants in the neighborhood (nothing fancy and Swiss/Mexican is a bit weird).
