"Nice lobby, good service but dated rooms and facilities"
When come to India, the best brand of hotel often goes to Taj. However, there properties in Delhi are not their best, or probably very average in terms of rooms conditions and other facilities. The lobby is nice, with beautiful service staff walking around who often greet you in a Taj manner. ( ppl from countries like Denmark, Norway, Germany may feel uncomfortable with it). The fascinating thing about lobby here is that you meet ppl. Somehow it seems all business, and some VIPs always choose to stay here. We constantly walk into business partners, super stars, religion leaders here in the lobby. The property is old, and you can smell and see it once you get into your room. The room is not spacious, and often stinks of mould probably due to lack of maintenance of AC system etc. The bathroom is 1980s style, simple, with old facilities, but very clean! It has a huge pool, but the water was a bit tooo warm and felt thick somehow. I love the Japanese restaurant and Varque, the indian fusion restaurant here. Pls do try the Aguri for breakfast (the masala egg cramble) here, the best I have had in the country.
"Our stay in New Dehli"
The Hotel is great. Everything is high end. The best thing is the location. It is very near lots of interesting landmarks, Khan Market, India Gate..etc. The reception and room service were excellent and the setting within the hotel grounds are very relaxing and spacious.
"One of the big names ..."
Stayed here for four nights while in Delhi for a wedding. This is a majestic hotel up there along side The Imperial, ITC, Shangri La etc (have stayed at all of these). It's a big name hotel in Delhi and deserves all the level of prestige that comes with staying here. Everything is top notch from the minute you arrive at the door to attention to services, in room and all the amenities. The rooms are big but otherwise in need of up dating as the hotel doesn't seem like it has under gone a major renovation in some time. However that really is part of the charm of staying at the Taj Mahal. I agree staff service and attitude can be patchy, we had a specific need and one staff said that's not part of the service the hotel offer and another went specifically out of the way to help solve the problem. Breakfast was amazing as expected and Patesh the chef was always on hand to speak (by name) to guests in the morning offering traditional and English breakfasts. Gym, pool and spa are all great and deserves time spent - we didn't try the complimentary Sunday morning yoga session but friends did and raved about the offering. I recommend this hotel and would stay again. Final perk, a drop to the airport (door to door service) can't be beat!
"Treated like a Royal"
its a little hard not to be overwhelmed by the experience of staying in a Taj hotel. The staff, the room, the restaurants all first class. We are staying in another equally good Taj property at the moment so its no accident but the results of lots of work and dedication by the whole company
"A nice hotel with some minor flaws"
This is a prestigious hotel with comfortable rooms and several dining areas. Service varied a lot; some staff offhand and aloof others charming and helpful. Reception and cashier poor, snooty and rude, frankly. Machan Restaurant informal dining with good service and choices. The posh upper floor dining room had nicely cooked food although the service fell far short of five star standards; we waited quite a while and had indifferent service there. The staff barely coped with our party of 12. There is a nice pool and grounds - well maintained and serviced. The spa was well run; I had an excellent massage there
