We had a great timeComment of T. Michelle , United States the 2016-03-16
This is one of the premier properties of California. I stayed in a suite that had every amenity you could hope for in an extended stay type vacation. The property is manicured, awesome waking trails, fitness area. Many dining and bar options on property. The views of the Pacific are breathtaking with a clear view of Catalina island. I was visiting on business, next time I'm bringing my family.
"Unbelievable service, views and resort!"
Came for three nights for a work retreat and arrived late. Got help with luggage and super easy and fast check in. Each person I encountered was helpful and friendly. My room was clean and tidy and turn down was perfect. Even the late night room service was delicious (have the bolognese pasta!). Portions for room service were generous and the staff delivering it incredibly polite and efficient (always came in 30 min or less). Honestly I have gone to wonderful places in Santa Barbara and around the world and this place is absolutely top notch!! I loved every minute and I am hoping I return for fork next year!!!!
"You're definitely paying for the location and ocean views"
Very nice place to visit if it's on your bucket list. Even with a free night the overall cost per night, plus daily fees of $30 (resort) & $38 (valet) makes this place overpriced. The food was delicious!
"Very impersonal & cold customer service! "
Had to attend a wedding at the Wayfarers' Chapel almost immediately next door to this resort. Decided to book a room for the night before the wedding because my toddler was chosen as a flower girl for the ceremony & I liked the convenience of being able to stay here with it being so close to the chapel. Stayed in a partial ocean view double room for myself & 3 daughters (19, 23 & 1). Room was a good size, very clean and the beds were amazingly comfortable. Our favorite about the room was that we were placed on the ground level, so our sliding door opened to a patio connected to the hotel grounds, and was overlooking ocean views! It was perfect for my toddler as we were able to go outside a lot and enjoy plenty of space. With the hotel being very fancy, we did feel a little out of place & felt that the customer service was very cold and impersonal. Not something we expected considering the price tag to stay here was pretty steep. Our thermostat malfunctioned in the morning of the wedding, and even though they dispatched an engineer to fix it, it had put us behind schedule. Also, the hotel staff was aware that we had a toddler in the room & the whole reason for our stay was because she was to be a flower girl at a wedding the next day. My daughter naps around noon time daily which is the same time as their check out. Upon check in, I expressed this concern to the front desk & was told that I could ask for a late check out in the morning, but that it is not guaranteed. The next day, which is the day of the wedding and check out, despite having my daughter take an earlier nap, she still wound up napping right around the check out time. I called the front desk to request additional time & a later check out and explained the situation and got a very cold, "no" from the front desk who sounded a bit rude. I waited another 15 minutes and tried to wake my daughter up again but she just was too sleepy. I ended up feeling so guilty because it was clear that she was very tired & I knew that not allowing her to nap long enough could cause more issues during the wedding ceremony. So I called the front desk again & pleaded that we just could not check out yet as I could not force my 1 year old daughter to wake up. Our request was granted for "exactly an additional 1/2 hour only & that is it," the reason was because they claimed to be at full capacity that weekend. Despite the fact that the thermostat issue we had set us back, their check in time is actually not until 4PM so I could not understand why they couldn't grant at least an extra hour to us for the sake of my toddler & let us check out at 1PM instead of noon. If only the reception of the wedding was also close by, we would have booked the room for 2 nights to avoid this, but the reception was in Irvine so that was not an option. Needless to say, when we arrived at the Wayfarers' chapel for the 2pm wedding ceremony, my daughter was knocked out. She was so tired, she cried whenever we tried to wake her up and worse, she did not end up walking down the isle at all. This was the whole reason we stated at Terranea which ended up a complete failure and total waste of money. The location, views & facility is excellent, however, I cannot recommend this place for families with young children as they are not child-friendly at all & really do not care nor show any compassion for families with kids, regardless of the situation. Such a huge letdown and disappointment, so I hope that management read this review and realize that their handling of issues with families with babies/young children is unacceptable.
"Can't Say Enough About the Property or the Staff"
I stayed here six nights recently on a work trip and I'd go back in a heartbeat. The property is gorgeous -- lots of nooks and crannies to visit. We were greeted and well cared for by every staff member, but especially by Dustin (Dusty) down by the Cielo pool. He was so kind to everyone who came by, and pointed out the diving whales to me.And he makes a FABULOUS Catalina Legacy! The spa is the prettiest I've ever been to, and I am a spa fiend. We were there on the day of bad storm, and it was captivating to watch the storm by the fire in the peace room. GO GO GO GO GO.
