What a stunning place to be at. We visited for lunch and a swim with some friends and our kids, everything was great. Food is good, ice cream is amazing (caramel was the best) Swimming Water is always on the chilly side, the sea too but very refreshing.
"A different kind of (apparently) 5 star hotel..."
I read the blogs prior to my arrival, and the comments about the worthiness of this hotel's 5 star status. I travel extensively, and stay at 5 star hotels. Hence, I know a 5 star hotel when I see one - having said as much, it's clear there's no international standard that hotels across the world adhere to; stars do generally pertain to a hotel's level of service, amenities, cleanliness, location and price. However, this rating standard is usually a combination of the local government's Tourism Board's input coupled with other factors. Terror-Bi is certainly not a European standard 5 star hotel. It is neither luxurious, nor plush, simply a hotel in a good location alongside the ocean front, clean & 'okay', nothing more. It's simply not in the same class as 5 star hotels in many other parts of Africa (I wouldn't dare to even begin to compare it to 5 star hotels in Europe, Far East or the Americas). But to the facts on the ground, following my stay: PROS: 1. Generally the staff try to help, are usually friendly make an effort to adhere to requests, solve problems, etc. 2. Well located along the shoreline; private beach, ample beach space, etc. 3. The private beach, waveless, appears ideal for young children (although not much else for children to do). CONS: 1. Masses of staff, yet front desk service is very slow - I approached a member of staff idly hanging behind the reception desk, asked a question & was redirected to a queue (at the desk), while this chap then continued chatting with another member of reception staff while occasionally checking his mobile phone. 2. No spa. 3. No business centre facilities at all. 4. The so-called marina is almost empty of boats, not sure how this hotel has the audacity to mention the word 'marina' in its name, it serves no function. 5. Internet is weak. 6. Breakfast is limited & the warm foods are very badly presented - the scrambled eggs have a constituency of thick soup, the bacon resembles a hodge-podge of mixed vegetable, etc. - in fact most of the guests opted for other items, maybe that's the plan, hence more hot food left over for the kitchen/waiter staff to enjoy. 7. Room, large with the usual amenities, yet with 'tired', old furnishings. 8. No turn-down service (i.e. no fresh towels) in the evening or daily refilling of the minibar. 9. Mosquitoes in the room do not add up to a good nights sleep. 10. English language TV - besides the news channels, miserable. 11. $700 (€625) per person per night, is an outrageously high price. 12. Transport to/from the hotel is either by shuttle bus or private taxis, no limousine/hotel car service: TIP: have small currency notes on you, otherwise the drivers will try fob-off their broken, torn or old notes onto you at best, at worst will (try) short-change you with the usual story of 'no change'. Conclusion -An 'okay hotel' certainly not a luxury hotel by any international measuring standard. -At the price, no value for money spent. -Hotel does not seem to care about getting their guests to city meetings, excursions, since guests appear to be left to whims of the privateer taxis waiting for their 'victims' in the hotel's parking lot. In my experience, hotels are like any corporation - if there are problems, while it's always easy to blame lazy or inefficient staff, it's a Top-Down problem. Meaning, it's the function of the hotel management to set policy, standards & to implement a system of training & monitoring. Sadly this appears to be lacking concerning this (potentially good) hotel. In good conscience I cannot recommend this hotel.
"very nice hotel but the internet connection not so good"
We were at the terroubi for 8 days from the Dec 29 to Jan 7. The hotel is very nice and the service is great. All the hotel personnel that we came in contact with were superb! However, the internet connection is very poor. I was lucky that I did not have to work during this trip. I hope by the time we come back to the hotel on our next visit the internet connection will be faster. We planned to stay there at the next visit. To the staff ( Alkali, Oumar, Rene) two thumbs up! Keep it up!
"GREAT SERVICE, Okay food"
I stayed here with my family over winter break for me and it was a great experience. The room I was in was wonderful although we got a large suite. The staff was very helpful with destinations and tours. However, when my dad went to the front desk to change money they wouldn't give him anything smaller than what equals a $20 bill. He wanted CFA of 1000, 2000, and 5000 in order to tip the employees and pay for the taxi. We tried a trick, though, that may help you out! My mom went up and asked and they gave it to her in small bills right away! It might be a gender thing but no matter how many times my dad went up they would lie and say they didn't have any so then my mom would go up and get what we needed and they magically had it! I think they are in kahoots with the staff;) but other than this is was a good time! The food was similar between the restaurants at the hotel so we ended up at the same place every night. I wish the menu was more diverse with more pastas for those of us who couldn't eat the local cuisine. I definitely recommend it!
"Very nice hotel with excellent food"
Stayed here for almost a week. Very nice hotel, pleasant staff and EXCELLENT food. The terrace restaurant has a beautiful view and offers an excellent buffet on Sunday. Prices are at the high end but quality is excellent. I missed my shuttle but the director kindly gave me a lift to the airport. Rooms are clean and beds comfortable
