it was a brilliant stay at the Andaman - we loved every minute - location, hospitality, cuisine, service ... all A+ I have to add that the staff were exceptional and made our holiday! We'll be back next year for sure.Comment of M. Jennifer , Australia the 2014-11-29
The Andaman is a beautiful hotel located in Datai bay, Langkawi It is directly located on the beach. Rooms and very nice, big and clean All the services from the hotel are good and there are nice restaurants to dine (we tried 2 of them, the Malaysian and the Japanese, they were excellent). Close to the hotel you can enjoy flora, fauna and scenic views. You can watch reptiles, butterflies, birds, primates or other wildlife. A fantastic vacation.
"Beautiful setting with great service"
My son (18yrs), husband and I stayed in two adjoining deluxe rainforest rooms in the south wing. The setting of the hotel is absolutely spectacular. The rooms were clean, well appointed and the bathrooms were large with a great rain shower. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in for a hotel. The vast majority of staff were extremely helpful and friendly and could not do enough for you. We did the complimentary morning nature walk which was a great thing to do. We saw monkeys, monitor lizard, flying lemurs, bats, squirrels and lots of different spiders and insects. The guide was informative and managed the questions from some guests with great diplomacy. The beach equipment was well used and you had to be quick in the morning to secure it. You do have to pay a small fee to use this equipment. It would have been good if this equipment was complimentary as we have found it to be at many other resort hotels. One of the best things about the hotel and surrounds is that there are no mosquitos. Apparently the local bat population keep the area mosquito free. The hotel is quite isolated and very secure. If you want to do things outside the hotel you really need a car. We hired a very overpriced clapped out Mazda from the Hotel transport desk and just accepted that we paid too much for it for the convenience of picking it up and dropping it off at the hotel. This was more than AU prices for new rental cars at 190 ringgit a day. I recommend picking up a car on the way in at the Airport. If you want to experience Langkawi you really need to venture out of the resort. It really isn't reflective of the island culture and people as most of the staff we met were not from Langkawi. The breakfast buffet catered for many different cultural groups. I agree with other reviews that the staff didn't really have a handle on how to make a good strong coffee. There are four restaurants at the hotel and we didn't really rate any of them as being 5 star. The food was OK but seriously overpriced for what it was. We found the entertainer in the lobby bar each night to be incredibly irritating - he was so loud that you could hear him all over the hotel for 5 hours every night. He was also a good reason to get out of the hotel each night and experience places outside the resort. I think that many others also felt this because we never saw any more than about 10 people in the bar listening to him. Some mellow music would have been much more appropriate for such a tranquil setting (we went to The Datai next door one night and they had a beautiful mellow jaz singer in their foyer bar). I also recommend pre booking a late checkout if you have an afternoon flight as we tried to get one room as a late checkout and were not able to. Overall the Andaman is a beautiful place to have a relaxing holiday.
"Christmas 2016 - first but likely not the last time to The Andaman and Langkawi."
We found the Andaman on TripAdvisor - and what a find it was! Having decided to make a detour from our regular Christmas haunt (Thailand). Right from the first point of contact we had outstanding concierge support. And that was probably what made us chose this hotel (having made similar enquiries to another couple of same level hotels in Langkawi). Transportation, golf reservations, information about local restaurants, sights etc. Nothing is too much for the concierge at The Andaman - helpful, pleasant, genuine, forward thinking and flexible...service you may expect but rarely receive in Asia, no matter what star-rating. The resort is lovely. The bay very peaceful, the beach really special. We never during our two weeks stay felt a great need to venture outside the property. The restaurants are good, especially the Jala Restaurant, the hotel's signature seafood restaurant. The spa....oh the spa. The spa is OUTSTANDING. The beach bar has a daily fun happy-hour routine where the days' discount is set according to the air temperature (which of course unfortunately means it never becomes "2 for 1" ...). The staff is all happy, friendly and keen to please (with a couple truly outstanding and who would be an asset to any Starwood hotel anywhere in the world). Service is a little slow, but on reflection that is not exclusive to the Andaman, Langkawi has a distinct island feel...so just sit back, look over the bay and have another coconut.... The rooms are pleasant and very clean, Our family stayed in two Jacuzzi Suites, and they are very nicely appointed The gym is compact and functional. This hotel caters for young families - in fact it seems to attract them. Although we do not have little people any longer this was not a problem (as we generally like them) BUT if you do mind high chairs in restaurants and your lunch time pool snooze being interrupted by playing children (on a very noisy waterslide that bizarrely seems to be located in the nicest area of the pool area from a sun position point of view) then you may want to reconsider. In the same vein, if you are hoping for a buzzy night life hotel, then the Andaman will not work for you - the main bar is literally deserted every night (which is a shame as it is in a lovely position, with great staff, a fun cocktail menu and when we were there a FANTASTIC Canadian musician....again an observation of the "bizarre" maybe because the bar is empty a need is felt to have a tv on showing Asian hockey matches on mute....It would not be missed if it was removed. We would be back in a heartbeat. The Andaman was exactly what we were hoping for ..... it delivered.
"Amazing hotel surrounded by a fantastic rainforest"
My partner and I had a wonderful 6 nights in this hotel and hope to visit again next year. The staff are very friendly and accommodating from the moment we checked in, to our request to change rooms for an unobstructed sea view. It was well worth changing as the view was second to none - a clear view from the small balcony of the entire Datai Bay. I can see why the Bay is number 9 in the world's best beaches. It is phenomenal, and watching the cheeky monkey's playing around in the trees just behind the beach was very entertaining. The room was cool with well working air-conditioning and very nicely decorated throughout. The breakfast was very will set out with an extensive choice of food. however their cappuccinos were very weak and, along with other guests, we ended up having to ask for it 'very strong'. We attended one of the free evening nature walks put on by the hotel and saw some remarkable wildlife, from hearing the stridulation of the cicada to watching the flying lemurs (colugos) launch themselves from tree to tree. The guide was very interesting and a lovely touch for the hotel to put on for free. Spending most of our days on the beach we took full advantage of the water sports available to us at a small fee and even took a catamaran out with a guide who taught us the basics of sailing. The spa has to be one of the best hotel spas either me or my partner have been to! We had an early evening appointment and caught the sunsetting over the impressive bay. An experience not to be missed. The Andaman's Jala Fish restaurant was however not so impressive, it was very expensive and the quality of the food and service is not as high as that of the Datai's Gulai House - the restaurant of the neighbouring hotel. Although sitting by the fire pit, on the beach, outside of the Jala after our meal was a wonderful feeling.
"Fantastic getaway with amazing room and great facilities"
The room - We stayed in the Deluxe Rainforest room. It was very comfortable and spacious with the jungle view. The room was nicely decorated. The service - Amazing service! Staffs were very friendly and accommodating. Facilities - It has everything from coral nursery to mini jungle, and medical clinic! However, the coral nursery was not as good as I expected. The food - Quite good but quite expensive
