"I miss the old Ritz Carlton"
This does not compare to the former Ritz. Service, amenities, CLEANLINESS, general ambience & the overall look of the place is a definite BIG downgrade. I would not recommend it. I'm a Marriott gold member & am very surprised at this change of property. Phoenix area does not have a great Marriott business hotel anymore.
"Lovely Place to Stay"
We always enjoyed the Ritz and it was a thrill to experience the new Camby ( now a Marriott/ Lux ) They have done a beautiful job with the property and we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Nightlife and restaurant have gorgeous decor and service is top notch
This hotel is by no means a terrible place to stay, but having spent several nights here I can't say I would ever stay again or recommend it to anyone I know. I was traveling with family, but arrived separately and had my own room. I used the Marriott app to check in, estimating I'd be there by 4 PM, but I ended up getting an earlier flight and arrived around 2:30. Despite the fact that my room was ready and there was no problem caused, the woman checking me in made several comments about how I wasn't expected until 4. Heaven forbid. The room my brother and his wife and their 4-year old were staying in was supposed to have a daybed for the little one. The room did not, and the same woman at the front desk insisted it did and only relented once the bellhop confirmed it. Once they finally settled in their room, none of the remote controls for anything worked. Nothing was broken in my room, but I was surprised that many things like Q-tips and a comb (for example) that are found in less expensive hotel bathrooms weren't in mine. The body wash dispenser in my shower was nearly empty when I arrived and was never refilled. Two of the days we stayed there, housekeeping didn't show up until about 4:30 PM, by which time we had all returned to the hotel after a long day and didn't have any interest in leaving the room while they cleaned. Rather than a normal coffee maker, rooms have Keurig machines, which do not make good coffee. They want to push you to use the coffee bar in their restaurant, but if you want coffee before 6 AM, you're out of luck. There is no minibar or vending machines, only M&Ms and Pringles available in the room for $5 each. The room service menu is very limited as well. One night of my stay was particularly memorable- my room was on the 11th floor, directly next to a function room which was hosting an after-party for a wedding. The schedule in the lobby said it was supposed to be over my 1 AM. I wasn't able to get to sleep until about 3:45, because of the insane amount of noise. I could hear everything going on in the function room, conversations, music etc. The rest of my family was a floor below and it disrupted them as well. I ended up having to extend my stay for one night, so I called "Camby Central" on the phone in my room, and the woman I talked to said that they could accommodate me but I'd have to switch rooms, because mine needed to be worked on. Ok, not a problem. She said to go to the front desk. The same rude woman who checked me in was working, and when I said I needed to extend my stay for a night she immediately said "I'm sorry, we're fully booked and I can't help you".. I informed her that the woman on the phone said they could accommodate me, and she replied with (after a laugh) "Well, maybe she should come out here and talk to you then!" Only then did she actually bother looking at her computer, only to realize that they did have room and were fully booked the following night instead. For the price they charge for rooms, that level of rudeness and attitude is unacceptable. There was a constant feeling of lack of communication between employees, and between employees and management. On a positive note, the valet staff were an awesome group and the Artizen restaurant is fantastic, although the menu is a bit on the small side. To sum up- If you're paying with points, this might be worth considering. I wouldn't advise anyone to actually spend money to stay here.
"Fun vibe for a night away"
We stayed here for a Saturday night away from home. The hotel has a great vibe, which you sense the moment you walk in the door and see the great artwork. We stopped at the Bee's Knees before and after dinner; the drinks were great and the crowd was lively, plus we got to watch people play with the pin wall as they walked by. The room was fresh and updated, the furniture was comfortable, and we slept soundly.
"Misses the mark"
I think this property has potential but it seems challenged to achieve it. A former Ritz-Carlton, the rebranding coincided with redecoration and refurbishment. Although some of the design elements seem 'odd' the overall result works well. Ours was a late arrival and we took advantage of the on-line check-in in order to simplify things. Eight hours later we were tapping our toes as we waited for the sole front desk attendant to solve what seemed like an extremely complicated problem for another guest. When our 'turn' came we learned that the on-line check-in had disappeared...so, we started from scratch; not a big deal. When asked to change a $20 bill, the front desk determined that they only had $17! By that time we were prepared to accept the $3 loss as a conversion fee, but the attendant asked we wait while he found his colleague who was able to make the exchange. Where was this second individual when we were waiting to check-in' The room was comfortable, but incredibly under-lit and dusty. Perhaps the two go hand in hand!' Next morning I needed to pick up a rental car and the extremely helpful valet offered use of the 'hotel's town car' when I asked for a taxi. Wonderful! Sadly, it turned out that the car and driver where not associated with the hotel and I was asked for $20 at the conclusion of my 10-12 block ride. The front desk staff in the morning were the polar opposite of what we encountered the previous evening...efficient, pleasant and helpful. Nothing here was catastrophic, but the property just doesn't seem to have it together.
