"Perfect hotel in Phoenix!"
Stayed here for 2 nights by recommendation of a friend. Let me tell you, if I have my way this hotel will always be my top choice in Phoenix. Great location with tons of amazing restaurants within an easy 2 block radius. Very nice rooms with contemporary decor but was still subtle and classy. The bathroom amenities were top notch too. Loved the peppermint shampoo and the hand lotion. Awesome views from the moutain view side too. Fitness center is one of the best I have ever seen with lots of machines, free weights and even kettlebells! When I checked in Shauna was so amazing getting me all the information I needed. Everytime I walked by the front desk and she was always there at minimum a smile was always sent my way. Her personal attention made the stay that much more memorable. Do not ever miss the chance to stay here!
"So Much Character"
This hotel is simply delightful. From the moment you pull up your eyes are drawn to the little touches that make this hotel unique. The rooms are spacious and bed is super comfortable. The gym is outstanding, everything you need and provides ample space. It's situated across the street from upscale shopping and a movie theater. The food in the restaurant is awesome. Would love to stay again!
We were in town for a wedding, some shopping and on our way out of town for a ski trip in Wyoming. The Camby has an excellent location, easy 20 minute drive to Sky Harbor Airport, and a very short walk to the Biltmore Fashion Park opposite the hotel. We loved the fun and playful decor throughout the hotel which was matched by the cheerful and efficient staff. Our room was comfortable with a view of the mountains. We enjoyed happy, happy hour at Artizen, although the decor and lighting are rather dark. That is also true of the lobby seating area. The fitness room is well-equipped, however the pool is not for lap-swimming, more for cooling off. The lounging area around the pool is also rather plain. Perhaps more plants would help. The Camby is definitely a good choice for a business person, it's close to many office buildings; or like us, someone wanting an upscale place to relax for a few nights in Phoenix not needing all the extras of a resort.
"Torn between 3 stars and 4 stars"
The Camby is what used to be the Ritz Carlton in the Biltmore area of Phoenix. The location is good - close to the airport and lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. The vibe has been changed from upscale business/luxury to upscale trendy, I'd say. The interiors of the rooms have cool additions and the techology in the rooms is great. The staff, from valet to front desk (with one exception) to service personnel are warm, friendly and professional. Those are some of the plusses - (so that management can address only those and thank me for staying - LOL). There are some major shortcomings for me, however: 1) There are no miniature bottles of body wash, conditioner or shampoo. Instead a generic, inexpensive version is dispensed from containers in the shower. They smell weird, and the containers do not dispense properly .. .. frustrating. 2) All room service is brought in "to go" containers. The result is hot food isn't really hot by the time it gets there and opening up little containers of butter, dressings, maple syrup, whatever is annoying. Pancakes served in a cardboard container are unappealing to say the least. At $35+ for breakfast, ($3 service charge and 18% gratuity), it's too much. I believe you can get your meal plated for an additional $10. 3) You cannot pre-order breakfast the night before. That's pretty ridiculous for an upscale hotel. The front desk person told me he'd order for me, but come the next morning, no breakfast. 4) Neither the spa nor the pool have a jacuzzi. 5) There's no gift/sundries shop or area. Yes, i know that there is a CVS 5 blocks away. Once i'm in my room for the night and realize I need something, I'd sure rather not have to get re-dressed and go out again. 6) Lobby area and hallways are loud. I would say that the demographic has probably changed a bit since the hotel was a Ritz, and the crowd is definitely younger, louder. Not necessarily a bad thing, just something to be mentioned in case that isn't your thing. 7) Virtually every time I travel and stay at a Marriott, if they are not full, they will upgrade based on my rewards membership. Not even a discussion about possibly doing that here and they were not full. Certainly their prerogative, but not an inducement to return. I'm guessing that given the above, my return visit to the Phoenix area would have me staying at the new Ritz if it's complete or the Montelucia or the Royal Palms. By no means is the Camby a bad hotel -- it just is lacking an awful lot of amenities that I believe should be there for an upscale hotel where the lowest caliber room is well over $300 when including valet parking ($33) and taxes.
We stayed here for three nights to attend the Fiesta Bowl football game. When we arrived, the exterior is elegant. The lobby is very modern and new. Check-in was fast and easy. The front desk clerk was very friendly and efficient. Everything about the hotel is very modern and fresh. Our room was comfortable, clean, and had all the amenities that we needed. The bed was very comfortable. The only negative was that the bath towels were not very soft. There is a lounge and a restaurant with a bar where you can watch sporting events. The employees are helpful and friendly, but the drink prices are expensive. Wi-Fi was good. It is located about 8 miles from the airport. A taxi will cost $25 without tip and if you use Uber, it is $9.38. If you have a car, the valet is pricey at $33 per day and it is your only choice for parking at the hotel. Great stay in a very nice hotel.
