"feel great factor"
we have been to a few rosewood hotels but this was the first time at carlyle in nyc. we got our room upgraded to a nice suite very comfortable and with plenty of space (no nice view though). the service in general was great apart from a few hickcups : we waited for a long time the luggage at the arrival and the bathrobes were never available (we needed to ask for this a couple of times). these are minor details though. doormen, concierge and front desk did a gret job. this is classic school i.e. they always remember your name and always smile, the hotel has an intriguing bar inside where sometimes big names play live jazz music. the atmosphere is of the city you see in some old beautiful black and white movies. something from the thirties. the rooms are classic style and nothing is missing (our bathroom though was small compared to the size of the room). the location is a plus. away from the tourists herds which you can find few blocks away and at the same time close to the park and to the museum district. plenty of nice bars and restaurants around even with table outside during nice season. room dining is ok and the so is the breakfast. when you are back to the hotel from a hectic day out in the city you feel like in an oasis of calmness where the time has beer frozen.
"There's no school like the old school"
How do I do this review' There are so many small things I could complain about if I was to compare the Carlyle with an uber modern hotel. But I'm not going to complain as it's old school shabby chic feel is what makes me and my wife LOVE it! Sure it needs a bit of paint and the plumbing isn't perfect, but it feels like home and reminds me of my Club in London. We had a 2 room rear facing suite. Good size. Comfortable bed. Great staff, lovely room service, good jazz in the bar, brilliant concierge, great location. Small but adequate gym. Only 2 elevators are working but I believe that is because of remodelling. The Easter bunny was there handing out eggs We stayed 6 nights and since we will be going fairly often to New York, I can report that I don't want to stay anywhere else! I love four seasons etc too but they just don't have the charm of this place!
"Amazing Staff. Old School Style"
How can I describe staying at the Carlyle' Its like staying at the home of an eccentric, rich elderly aunt who happens to own a property in NYC. The hotel is comfortable in an old school way. It reminds me of Baur au Lac in Zurich. It could certainly do with a refresh. We were lucky enough to stay in enormous suite which was amazing but really could do with a lick of paint! To be fair on the hotel they seem very busy in doing up parts of the hotel so I imagine it will be done in next few months. The main thing that stands out is the staff. Professional, friendly and helpful. They truly made our stay. From now on I am staying here when I am in NYC. Sorry Peninsula!
"Fabulous home away from home."
If you are looking for a very, very special weekend getaway, The Caryle is the most perfect place in New York City. My wife and I stay there as often as we can and everything and I mean everything is absolutely perfectly done. The front desk service is beyond 100%; the dining room ambiance and very creative and delicious food is my best kept secret and of course, Bemelmen's Bar is the perfect early and late night jazz spot.
"The Carlyle Restaurant: Old School Elegance"
We walked into the Carlyle hoping to have a drink and a bite at the famous Bemelmans Bar, but it was closed so we decided to try the main restaurant. We were seated side by side at a banquette along the wall, which is always nice because both people can see the room. It was especially good because the room is gorgeous and there was a huge floral arrangement in the center that was stunningly beautiful. My girlfriend had the white asparagus Vichyssoise with herb cream and I had the Lobster Bisque. Both were outstanding. Note: I saved the special White Asparagus menu, which is how I know the details of her dish. The service was professional. It was one of the most enjoyable lunches I've ever had and I look forward to a return visit.
