"Nice hotel but bad logistics and services"
The hotel is very beautiful and has kept all his historical charm. Rooms are big for NY and I love the romantic ambiance of them. 2 big dressings!! The service is nice but not that professional. I have been affected to a different room when I checked in, which is ok if I didn't find out a gift for the person who was supposed to take it. I had called the front desk 3 times and waited 2 hours for them to come and pick up a gift that was not for me. No apologies from them, not a word. I was supposed to have a business folder documents in my room, I called to ask for it, they confirmed to me 100% that there is nothing to my attention but they found it 1 hour later and brought it. No need to mention that the initials on my pillow were the ones of another guest... Well I didn't feel welcome in that hotel. The only service which was perfect is the housekeeping, very good people and caring. Cleaning was perfectly done too.
"Elegant and timeless"
The Carlyle was an excellent property to use while staying in Manhattan. The staff is excellent and the property is beautifully maintained. I will stay there anytime I go to New York. I recommend it highly.
"New Years family trip"
I had been looking forward to my stay at the legendary Carlyle Hotel. The rooms are in desperate need of renovation and the service is lacking for a hotel of this supposed caliber. The rooms are filthy and the overall hotel is tired! The only positive thing I can say is that Bemelman's lives up to the hype and the Gallery service is outstanding.
"Lovely New Years at the Carlyle"
My wife and I stayed in a suite at the Carlyle on New Years. From arrival to checkout, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The lobby, with its Christmas decorations, was beautiful. Although the hotel has a formal feel to it - elevators manned by white-gloved attendants, waiting staff in white jackets - the service was very good and we were treated with respectful formality, which was delightful. The suite itself was very spacious and the two bathrooms were modern and clean. This particular suite had a bad view (darkened brick courtyard), but we really didn't mind. However, if a view is important to you, perhaps inquire at front desk before going to your room; other suites may have better views. High tea/lunch was lovely, as was the breakfast (the breakfast buffet for $39 was lovely and reasonably priced considering what it includes). Some previous trip advisor reviews indicated slow elevator service. We were on the 5th floor and had no problems. Valet service was very nice. In fact, the valet/doormen let us use their limo to get across town instead of a cab, which we really appreciated. Overall, we had a wonderful time at the Carlyle and thank them for their hospitality. We look forward to returning!
"Superlatives don't work in this case"
Spent 4 nights at the Carlyle over Christmas in a suite. Superlatives do not do this Hotel justice. The Hotel does have some unusual features so if you prefer slick and fast the Carlyle would probably try your patience but if you are looking for charm, discretion and being treated like an old friend rather than a room number - this is the very definition of a hotel. We spent most of our time in the bar which has live music most nights and a very animated crowd at week-ends and as residents the manager always made sure we were accomodated to the best of their abilities. The common areas are gleaming, uncluttered and very dog friendly and the concierges & security were always helpful with cars, dinner reservations and luggage shipments. It's a credit to Rosewood that the hotel remains unique and individual and has not been smothered by corporate types. A fantastically expensive hotel and totally worth it.
