We stayed here for three nights in one of the deluxe rooms. The hotel was great, and the rooms clean, tidy and spacious. The staff were pleasant, particularly the bartender who was very helpful. We used the restaurant twice, and although the menu was not extensive, what we had was enjoyable and well kept. We had a great stay and would definitely go back - perhaps for our first anniversary :)
"Luxurious public areas but rooms a bit tired."
This hotel is very impressive from the outside. It is in lovely grounds with several outside seating areas, all the public areas look great too. Our check in was a little slow. We had ordered a twin bed room but there didn't seem to be one available so they gave us a free upgrade to a junior suite which had a large double bed and a sofa bed, we were inward looking so didn't get to see the lovely grounds. We had tea and coffee in the room but I understand from fellow guests who were in regular double rooms that they didn't have any. I don't think the refurbishment programme had reached our room. The concierge was very helpful and organised 'skip the queue' tickets for the Vatican Museum. He also organised a taxi for us on our second day as the metro was on strike and the hotel wasn't offering any extra shuttles, cost was €25. There is a lift to take you to your floor. The corridors are not carpeted so you can hear every footstep that passes your room. There was a conference going on at the hotel when we were there and breakfast was mayhem, I just settled for cereal in the end. We used the conveniently located Metro to get to the city centre as the hotel shuttle doesn't hold many people. There was a lovely Italian restaurant opposite the Metro where we ate both evenings, it was full of locals so you know it's good, sorry, can't remember it's name but the food was great.
"Fine but not special. More attention to detail would have gone a long way."
Our family (two adults, three children) stayed in a suite at the Church Palace for four nights. The hotel is set back from the road beyond an avenue of trees which was very pleasant and while the location is not in the centre of Rome, the nearby tube station makes getting around very convenient. The room was modern and pleasant, if a bit small. There was very little space to store clothes and so we ended up creating piles on the floor for the children. The bathroom set-up was very poor. There was no bath, just a rain shower located right next to the toilet. This made washing young children a very unhappy experience for all. The bed and bedding was comfortable but the pillows were hard. The food was a huge disappointment. Breakfast was exceptionally poor as was the service. It didn't seem like there was anyone in charge. We had to constantly look around for someone to ask for milk or ham to be replenished. Tables took forever to be cleared. The reconstituted scrambled eggs were always luke warm even when they had just been placed in the hot dish and the sausages were like rubber. Thank goodness we had taken our own Weetabix and Ready Brek for the children. We tried dinner in the bar once but it took 45 minutes for our food to arrive so we didn't bother again. Instead, when we wanted to eat near the hotel, we went to the Joseph restaurant by the metro which was excellent. The concierge was very helpful as was the barman but to be honest, we were left with the impression that other staff really couldn't care whether we had a good stay or not. Not once did we receive a warm smile from someone at reception. The coffee in the room was not replenished during our stay and the 'complimentary mineral water offered during the whole stay' was, we were told, just a 50cl bottle to use in the coffee maker. All in all our stay felt very impersonal. A few more smiles and bit more attentiveness to the small details would have gone a long way to making us feel that our custom was appreciated.
Close to both downtown and airport. Great location and nice grounds, securere parking and great breakfast. Rooms are clean and comfortable. I will stay there again. We needed to stay a bit longer fir a late fligh and they were nice to accomodate our needs.
"Very enjoyable stay"
I stayed at The Church palace October 7th to 11th October and have to say it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience' the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful, there were three of us staying here and we would all go back to the same hotel again, thank you Church Palace for your warm hospitality.
