"Half-Baked WiFi, Fully Baked Room"
I'll start with the good bits... The architecture of the hotel is beautiful and it's conversion into a hotel has been done really nicely. The staff are also excellent - polite, professional and helpful. But I'm afraid my stay was pretty unsatisfactory, and if you are travelling on business, need to work, and need a reliable WiFi then as it currently stands you should steer clear of staying here... Check-in was friendly and I was personally shown to my room and given my WiFi joining instructions which require me to accept a set of terms and conditions on joining. As I needed to work I immediately set up my computer and went to sit on the chair in front of the desk. First problem - the chairs are too low - very uncomfortable, needed to use the two bed pillows to sit on! Then I found that my WiFi would not connect. I called down to reception who came up to my room with instructions for joining another WiFi network (this time with a normal password). No luck, my computer would just not connect despite it showing a full WiFi signal. I went down to reception to explain that it would not work where they offered to move me to another room with better WiFI signal. So, I moved rooms, and although I was able to connect to WiFi this time, the connection just kept dropping in and out constantly and was very unreliable and not useable for the online app I needed. My room was also very hot so I set the temperature on the aircon and headed downstairs for a drink (having given up on work!). The reception staff (who are excellent), apologised and offered me a free beer in the bar which was much appreciated. When I returned to my room I discovered that the heating control was not working and the unit was displaying an error. The room was still incredibly hot. I then noticed how noisy the room was from road noise outside and found that a window very high up was open (probably due to the room being very hot and the heating control not working!). Being tired of complaining I couldn't contemplate asking to move to yet another room so went to bed and had an uncomfortable, overheated night and awoke early from the street noise. I'll say again, I can't fault the staff of this hotel, they are great - but in order to provide suitable facilities for business people they need to completely re-vamp their provision of WiFi internet - it's simply not good enough in 2017 for a hotel not to provide a fast and reliable service. More attention needs to be made on making sure that heating controls work properly, and if they don't, those rooms shouldn't be rented. Not everyone likes hot rooms!
"Great hotel in fabulous city"
Been lucky enough to have stayed here twice. Lovely old building with plenty of character. Agree with some other reviews that rooms can be a little dark but that's all part of the feel they're aiming at. Rooms are large and well furnished. We were upgraded this time to a deluxe room...there was some noise from a wedding party...and they moved us the next day. Having said that, this is a smart hotel in a smart part of town so it wasn't in any way rowdy. Staff are friendly and attentive and there are plenty of nooks and crannies in the bar / lobby area to hide yourself away in. Particular praise to Dario & Gio who were exceptionally friendly and to James who can mix a great cocktail. Hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the museums and there are a few good bars / restaurants nearby (La Falote over the road is very good, Café Loetje 2 minutes away is great and Cafe Wildschut and Bouf are good as well). You sacrifice a central location next to canals for space and size of rooms but if you don't mind a relatively short walk through a nice part of town, then it's well worth the trade-off. I love Amsterdam and will be back and will stay at the College.
clean and modern-classic hotel. Rooms were a little dark which made it had to apply good make-up at night but that is a personal preference. Hugh windows to let in natural light during the day. Bathroom was wonderful; bath was big enough for two! Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair drier provided. About 40 mins walk to the center but tram stop right outside. Italian restaurant was nice. Have a nice garten

"Nice room, nice stay, however, some points of improvement!"
We stayed in the Junior Suite, as we arrived in the evening and we had to leave quickly again to attend an event in Amsterdam we arrived after mid night in our room. Unfortunately we discovered the next morning that two of the three roll -curtains did not work properly, so walking around in the room after getting up in the morning did not feel comfortable (the room has a lot of windows. Also somewhat disappointing was that when we arrived at the bar at 12.00 midnight, we "were lucky" to order one last drink. We were very surprised: on a Saturday night, a 4 * hotel bar closes at 12.00 midnight' Not only we were surprised. Many people after us were so unlucky, they did not even got the chance to order a last drink. Said that: would we stay here again: YES, however, points of improvement: 1. fix the roll curtains in Junior Suite 108 2. arrange better light in the bathroom (not easy to do make-up) 3. bar open on weekend days (fro-sat-sun) till 01.00 Overall: very nice hotel: bar is very cosy, JS: very nice, stylish! I think we will return!!!
