I stayed for 2 quick nites. Hotel is conveniently located near everything (airport, citycenter mall). Very friendly staff, round the clock room service. Bit pricy, but worth it for quick stay. Has resturants offering open buffet lunch and breakfast as well.
I had heard about the construction and was concerned, and rightfully so. I am trying to nap and hear incessant hammering. We requested a (paid) upgrade but nothing was available. We also requested ocean view / front, but the lovely woman at check-in warned that the construction is on the oceanfront side and so there is lots of noise and the balconies are off limits. We this opted for a view of the inter coastal. We moved from another hotel (as the Diplomat was full the other night). Wish we had stayed where we were and not moved. The lobby too has lots of construction. So too does the pool area have construction noise. Basically, there is no where within the hotel to relax. The only good points: check in woman was delightful and took the time to find us a room that was minimally impacted by the construction; the room is updated and modern; shower is strong with both rain and hand-held options; staff is friendly and helpful; and location is great for outdoor runner as the Hollywood boardwalk and a park make for a nice 6 plus mile run. Bottom line, the hotel will be excellent if and when the construction is complete. Until then, stay somewhere else.
"The staff aren't quite doing their job"
When I arrived at the hotel in a cab, there were a number of bellhops standing around. No one came to the cab to help with my luggage or offered to carry the luggage up the stairs to the hotel. I had a longer than expected wait to check in even though there were plenty of hotel staff who didn't appear to be doing much. At the hotels, there seemed to be more staff than customers, but I still had to wait for a check and didn't get much attention. My room appeared to have been recently renovated, but it didn't really work. The desk chair was heavy and did not move well on the carpet. There wasn't any light at or near the desk, so it was difficult to work. In fact, the entire room was dim. The mold at all of the shower seals didn't improve my feeling about the hotel. It wasn't a terrible stay, but I expected a lot more. Management really needs to teach their staff that job number 1 is keeping the customer happy. It wouldn't hurt to remind them that job number 2 is actually doing their job and keeping the place clean.
"4-star beach full service hotel in a great location"
The Diplomat offers updated rooms with sleek and contemporary finishes from the bedroom to the bathroom. Room service is available as well as two places to grab coffee, pastries, beverages, snacks etc. staff is friendly, from the front desk to housekeeping. The hotel is green and allows for guests to opt whether they would like fresh linens and housekeeping daily or receive a voucher for five dollars each day. Downsides are expensive valet parking at $38 a day plus taxes and fees in addition to resort fees in excess of $30 a day.
"Skip it for now"
This hotel was awesome when it first opened. I am surprised it needed such an extensive makeover already. Beware there is construction going on everywhere. Once beautiful lobby is all closed off with plastic. I get it that construction happens...but the whole property seems dirty in the meantime. All the sidewalks around the front leading to the convention center are covered with bird poop. If for some reason you can't humanely remove the birds for petes sake get a pressure cleaner out there once or twice a week. It's gross! And the stairwells in the garage are nasty too. That's not caused by construction! Come on Diplomat...you may be under construction but that's no excuse to let the place go to hell in the meantime!
