"This is not a four star hotel"
I stayed at The Drake for three nights in Jan 2017. The staff was great and the location was excellent. Sadly, this hotel is in dire need of updating. The beds were hard and lumpy. The pillows did not fit the bed. I guess they were feather pillows, but gave zero support and were small. The paint was peeling in several areas in our room. We shut the heat off since it was so loud we couldn't run it. Still our room was a bit hot. Also, they add an extra $75.00 a night for extras to the room total before you purchase them. That is just not needed. You get it back when you check out, but they are helping themselves to money they haven't earned. Also the toilet was so loud and splashed water. I just don't see how this hotel earns 4 stars. Something is not right with the ratings.
"Afternoon tea at the Drake"
We recently went here for a lovely tea service. We found it to be a delightful experience complete with outstanding service and a harpist playing background music. We had a little one with us who loved her own cup and pot of hot chocolate. This was a once in a lifetime special outing.
I booked the family suites. The rooms are large and have 2 bathrooms. The Palm Court offers live music and dancing on the weekends. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. The location is right on the Magificent Mile.
"Verrry Sketchy Billing Practices"
Beware. My credit card was compromised and I immediately updated my hotel reservation to reflect the new card number. When my original card was denied, the hotel put my room charge on another guest's credit card - without permission - because we had the same last name. Never called that other person or me. When the other person called the hotel for an explanation of an additional room charge on her card, the hotel manager just kept making excuses as to why this was done. Never apologized. Highly unprofessional. Beautiful hotel with a lot of history but jeez.
"The Drake Needs A Face-Lift Badly!"
The staff were reasonably pleasing. The facility was just awful! The Drake is a staple of Chicago and has famous historical significance. The rooms are really terrible. The hotel needs a face lift extremely badly!
