The hotel was beautiful, the staff friendly, knowledgeable and friendly. The room was very nice and the pool area was beautiful and the perfect place to spend any part of the day. I am glad we stayed here and will be coming back for sure!Comment of W. Christie , United States the 2016-07-01
A great stay, for a great price. Not the best Fairmont hotel in the world but most definitely the best for the money. Great complimentary shuttle service to the nearby shops and beaches and Santa Ana airport, where you can pick up transfers to Disneyland and further afield.Comment of L. "Nice hotel in a convenient location"
We stayed here on Thursday through Sunday. I like this hotel. It is conveniently located near the airport and everywhere. It is within distance to luxury shopping centers. As a runner, I love to run the Newport Backbay 10-mile loop and this hotel is just 1.5 miles away from there. The staff are nice and friendly. The room is very nice and roomy. The bathroom is clean and large. The weight room is large and nice. The only few minor few things that I hope they can improve on are as follow: 1) Housekeeping - the second day we were there, the cleaning staff did not provide extra towels, toiletries, coffee or creamer. I had to call the front desk to report that the coffee maker did not work and there is no coffee or clean cups. They brought over the coffee machine, but just left it on the dresser without plugging it in, the dirty spoons and cups were not picked up and provided us with new cups. However, the weekend cleaning crew are much nicer. They were on top of the game and provided extra items as needed (shampoo, lotion, etc.) 2) The roll-away bed is awful. They actually left plastic wrap on and the mattress is so cheap that you can feel the metal frame on your butt. Every time the person moves around on that bed, it makes a lot of noise. It's so uncomfortable. 3) They charge for parking $30 / day. They will not allow you to park yourself so you have no choice, but valet parking. Every time you need a car, you have to pay tip of $5. Throughout the day, with tips alone and parking, it could cost as much as $50 / day or more depends on how often you need your car to be parked or picked up. It costs us an average of $55 / day for both parking and tips. So be prepared to cough up some cash for some hefty tips. 4) The room wall is very thin. You can hear your neighbors and their TV at night. Overall, I had a great experience with this hotel. I would definitely come back here again, ONLY if the valet parking must be removed.
"Mixed feelings for our Annual holiday to USA."
The Duke hotel where do I start' Location, the hotel is located in a commercial area banks, car sales and a very busy airport. Valet team, great service car ready as soon as you ask but at $33 a day you should expect it, no self park but we did find out before we arrived but after we booked we will be having words with the travel agent soon. Reception, again good service polite an prompt, concierge hit and miss, no real local knowledge we asked about local shops and restaurants but were told nothing in walking distance we found a reasonable collection of shops restaurants and a staples. Restaurant, we used for breakfast for 3 days but at $51 for two very expensive if it was good. but for what they offer $5 would be expensive. Each day the same offerings, bacon eggs a few pastries and cereals on rations, the same rotten red apple was on display for the 4 days we visited. The Bellagio at $46 for two giving a world class quality quantity would be a place for the chef to visit and get a guide of what they should be serving for when charging $51. The room, Nice a view up the road to the Lexus garage, furniture is old and quite damaged, the room did require a deep clean, vacuum lines around the furniture and walls, shower head blocked up, the fridge rattled all night even after the engineer folded a magazine up and jammed it under the fridge. The ladies who service the rooms are very nice and work long hard days, everything changed daily tea and coffee toped up, loved them. The Pool, a heated spa and pool this area does require some immediate remedial works to chipped tiles in the spar. green mould growing on the loungers fortunately complimentary towels are provided, the pool had a tide mark around it all week, Depending on how you feel about air traffic the pool is great or a nightmare, to us a nightmare consistent small very noisy helicopters and training single engine planes start at 9.00 and go over every 1 to 2 minutes until 17.00. As SPG members we were expecting far more from a premium hotel owned by Marriot they have a long way to go to bring this up to a quality that equates to the price you are paying. When you portray and charge quality you have to deliver The Duke does not. Marriot must have stole this from Fairmont if not the buyers will have some difficult questions to answer from the asset management team. As a business hotel ok for a night or two, as a couple on holiday for a week definitely not suitable.
"Business park setting"
Comfortable, quiet room. Good temperature control. Convenient location for business travelers but not scenic. Comfortable outdoor pool on upper terrace. Very comfortable bed. Mandatory valet parking is overpriced.
Pretty nice hotel but charging 30% of the room rate in parking every night is robbery. Hotel across the street (extended stay) offers free ParkIng for guests. Next time people should consider that. Otherwise nothing else special about the hotel. The Parking rate really left a bad taste for us
Probably the only two negatives would be the $33/day valet parking (I prefer self park so I can leave items in the car to be easily retrieved if I choose to) and the room smell. I think it used to be a smoking room as it smelled of stale/old smoke. Other than that the pool area was excellent, they had a beautiful and clean gym and the front desk area and service was also at the appropriate level for the price. The valet guys were awesome and one of them even offered us bottled water for the road! Room & bed were large and comfortable although the shower was a little weak and the spout almost falling apart. We had a lovely view with the sunset coming through our window and we could see the hills beyond the city. Overall I'd stay here again but probably wait for a better price, especially because of the smell of the room.
