The hotel was beautiful, the staff friendly, knowledgeable and friendly. The room was very nice and the pool area was beautiful and the perfect place to spend any part of the day. I am glad we stayed here and will be coming back for sure!Comment of W. Christie , United States the 2016-07-01
A great stay, for a great price. Not the best Fairmont hotel in the world but most definitely the best for the money. Great complimentary shuttle service to the nearby shops and beaches and Santa Ana airport, where you can pick up transfers to Disneyland and further afield.Comment of L. "Just my type"
I went to this hotel because I was visiting some family and I wanted to stay at a nice hotel near my favorite beach. The hotel was very nice and the pool area was very active. The only thing I had issues with it the lack of outside parking besides the expensive valet parking. Other than that the staff was friendly and the hotel grounds was nice and the restaurant inside was nice as well. Overall if you're going to be in the area I recommend you stay at this hotel.
"Had a very pleasant stay at "The Duke"..."
We came to Newport beach for a wedding and were wandering where to stay... We finally chose "The Duke" and we were delighted with our choice. The hotel is beautiful, amenities are great (Sundeck, Pool, Hot-tub...), an amazing service and willing to accommodate to guest wishes. We would like to thank the whole Duke team, specially Adrian at the front-desk who was very pleasant and efficient to work with.
"Amazing team during transition! "
We have to give high praise to staff who outshine high customer service expectations! The hotel is in transition as it changes to Marriott and there has been no drop in service and some things are better already! So well done to the following who always make our stays exceptional! At the top of the list is Bell Captain Michael Kidder who is the elite in hospitality! We've seen him every visit and he never loses a beat of shining his brightness in exceptional hospitality to everyone he meets! Shining stars in valet service are John Santos, Kenny, and Stephen Palazzo! They are on top of everything and keep crazy situations moving smoothly with professionalism at all levels. To newbie at this location, Rebecca at the front desk, thank you for going above and beyond and convincing us to stay during the transition. You are amazing! Several people (even old timer staff) have mentioned how terrific you are to us. Well done and a heartfelt thank you to you all as staff who always rise above and provide excellent customer service!! Thanks for always making a feel we are home when we are here! H & D Chan 💕
"Definitely a 'business hotel' and not really for families holiday"
We visited recently. We booked thinking it was a Fairmont, but changed to Duke which I really do not think made any difference. The room was a bit tired, but clean and a comfortable bed. The breakfast was really nice with lots of fresh fruit and choices. It is very expensive for parking with no choice but valet. It is $3 more than a top hotel in Disneyland! I think for a couple or family other choices would be better as the pool is not that big and didn't appear to be any services at the pool area.
Stayed here last fall before it became The Duke. Had a great experience. Really enjoyed the food at the restaurant - on a Saturday night they turned the restaurant into a reception area for a wedding, but we were able to get take out and eat the food in our room. Close to many Newport Beach attracts and the airport, so it's convenient. You can rent the cabanas by the pool or just lounge around on the chairs poolside. Bar service will come to you. Decent drinks. I'd be interested in checking out the hotel again now that it is under new management.
