"Very smart hotel, impressive pretty much across the board"
Stayed for three nights on business. The reception was friendly, fast, and efficient, my room was plenty big enough with tea and coffee making facilities and a ($$) mini bar. The shower was great but the towels were a bit thin (by design rather than through use). Bed was comfy and the bed linen was of a good quality. The bench was not ideal for work (I would have preferred a chair) and the desk was a tad narrow, but I didn't need to work much in my room. The bar is well stocked with plenty of liquors and the tap beer is really great. The bar menu is limited and there are not many veggie choices. The restaurant is exceptional with an interesting mix of Italian dishes that were all prepared and served with much style. Try the sweet potato carpaccio, truly amazing! The ambience of both the bar and restaurant is very nice, with the restaurant reserved and calm and the bar in the evening very hip with a great soundtrack. Service in both places is exceptional. The bar gets popular but never rowdy, so expect a very cool crew on the mix of high stool benches and very relaxed sofas. Chairs outside have sheepskin covers and blankets to ward off the cold, but that's where the smokers hang, so be warned if you find this uncomfortable. All in all a very pleasant stay in a delightful, original hotel with a lot of thought gone into the decor. I texted my colleague who was still heading in "hotel is very groovy" and my opinion didn't change. Highly recommended.
"Almost Nearly Perfect"
Had the pleasure to stay in this "funky" hotel The George for a couple of nights and had dinner two times in the restaurant. The hotel is a design-boutique hotel for the young and trendy crowd, prices are competitive for Hamburg. We normally stay at the Atlantic close by and was up for a change. Design wise it's a bit "Shabby Chick" and in some cases over the top, cool and funky can also be to over-designed and this place had certainly cool elements, but to much of a good ting can be overwhelming, even for the young at heart. The lobby converts into a bar/lounge area, with a heavy bass pumping, there is cocktail service at the tables and a very extensive bar menu and huge selection of spirits. To bad, the waiter had no idea about mainstream champagne, and tried to persuade us to buy a Ruinart Blanc de Blancs champagne instead of Moet et Chandon Rose, witch where our first choice. However, she managed to smile her way thru the lack of knowledge and we had a nice experience in the bar area, despite the loud music, we where able to have a meaningful conversation. But perhaps a good idea to tell the staff the difference between the diff. champagnes. The food was with an Italian touch and good size portions. Good value for money, starters up to 15 Euros and main up to 35 or so. We had a delicious Vitello Tonnato and the service in the restaurant where good and attentive. The staff in the bar and lounge, where perhaps a bit to narcissistic for our comfort. The Front desk staff was very attentive to our needs.Thank you for 2 great nights, We will soon be back again,
"Nice hotel, terriblel wireless"
The hotel is a place I have stayed at a few times and finally, I have to write about the really poor wifi. The hotel first - room are good size and quirky, some good features, bed is large and comfortable. Restaurant is also great for dinner and breakfast, food is top quality, tables are packed very close together though to maximise their covers. The wireless is awful. I first checked into a room at the end of the corridor and had one bar signal strength. I complained to the reception (nicely) and he offered me another room, closer to the lifts. It was also really bad quality wifi. I went to reception again and he said that many guests have complained but the management are not willing to invest in a decent wireless!! So it's time to make this official and hopefully the management agree to invest. I stay in hotels almost every week and generally all over Europe and I have not had as bad a wifi as in this hotel. So please, time is right to improve the wifi service. The rest of the hotel is VERY good, but you need wireless today at the same level.
Nice hotel not too far from the centre of Hamburg, you can walk along the lakes to get to Town Hall in about 25 minutes. Rooms are spacious for european hotel, and have all you might require. Hotel also has a cool bar that was full of people any night of the week. The only minus I could say was the breakfast, food selection wasn't that great. But overall, pleasant stay and helpful staff.
"Good Hotel but..."
The Hotel is nice although it is too expensive for what it is. Most annoying is - I forgot a shirt during my last visit. Called them and biiig promises we ll find it and call you back.. guess what - no calls and even this time when I asked them about the shirt they promised a call back ... the rest you can imagine.. for a hotel that is asking 6 Eur for a cup of tea - I think this is not acceptable...
