"Great, comfortable hotel with delicious breakfast!"
Extremely nice business hotel in a very good location to many tourist sites. Rooms are extremely clean, beds comfortable, and service impeccable. The breakfast is fantastic and has everything one could want. Overall, a really high quality hotel!
"Used to be luxurious"
Way past its splendor, this hotel does not deserve to be called a luxury hotel. First and foremost for the absence of maintenance. The interior is way beyond its prime, carpets are worn and smell, the gym was probably great in the 90s. Yes, and the SPA does not seem to be cleaned regularly, yes again; remember to bring a swim cap is you want to use the pool without having to pay 57 RMB to buy one. But the staff are really not to blame, someone on the top has probably just decided to squeeze the lemon of what was formerly known as the St. Regis Hotel Shanghai, and was actually #15 on Conde Naste's list of hotels in Asia (!). Those days are gone, and the St. Regis brand couldn't be associated with this building body anymore.. If comparing the state of the infrastructure to that of a decaying body, it has probably reached what would be known as putrefaction (i.e. right after livor mortis). The concierge, kitchen staff and maid service deserve credit though, they're on average very helpful, and at times go above and beyond. A special thanks to Andy (for defying typhoon rain to get us a taxi)! But Starwood Hotels & Resorts, it's time to pull the plug!
"Solid, pleasant hotel but not a stunner"
This is my 4th or 5th stay at the Hongta. Good location for business on the Pudong side, with shops, restaurants, and transport nearby. The rooms are (mostly) clean, but the carpets are stained and everything smells musty (likely due to Shanghai humidity). Some shower mildew. Internet/wifi are fast and reliable, more so than many other places I've stayed in Shanghai. The staff speak functional English and are really lovely. The executive lounge is clean and pleasant enough, but the food and beverage offerings are underwhelming. This would be a good Westin hotel; not sure it stands up to the Luxury Collection banner.
"Great Business Stay"
This is a former St. Regis Hotel....and they learnt hospitality from the best. It is about 15 minutes to The Bund from the Pudong location. It is a great value. Mainly biz.folks stay here during visits and conventions. The rooms are well appointed, and it is very quiet.Make sure you carry a card with the hotel's address in Mandarin,as a lot of cab drivers do not speak or read English.
"Nice location, nice staff"
We stayed for a week towards the end of September. The hotel was clean and the location was close to the subway. The staff were very nice and tried to assist us when ever we had a question. We found the hotel restaurant was overpriced for what you received, but this seems standard for hotel restaurants.
