Stayed only for a day...wish could stay more as rooms are exquisite and beautifully furnished..has Bose system in rooms..batharea is beautifully done and big...has all amenities you can ask for..good breakfast with English selection...more of a business hotel though..near to metro (5-7 mts walk) makes it convenient ..
I have been staying there every time I am visiting Shanghai. Breakfast is very good as well as the room service. Very well equipped gym. There is also a pool, but didn't have a chance to visit there. Location in the middle of Shanghai with supermarkets and banks close by. About one hour from Pu Dong Airport
"Large rooms, poor English, needs remodel"
I stay at this hotel when I'm in Shanghai due to the location to my office. It's a nice hotel with a large lobby and large rooms. The bar is small so if you want to have drinks with business associates it's not the best place. Rooms are large and well appointed. The bathroom is beautiful with granite and marble. The air-conditioners do not work well. The carpet needs to be replaced. There are stains in almost all of the rooms. There is good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Room service is not bad and not terribly expensive. The restaurants are very expensive and overpriced. You're much better off to walk down the street and to a local restaurant. For a hotel with a lot of international travelers the English is very poor. Very few of the front desk staff speaking English and cannot answer basic questions. Trying to ask for a cup of hot water at breakfast yields no results. Breakfast buffet is not bad. There's an egg station that will fix any type of Dixie like. And a noodle station as well. There are not a lot of other options for Americans. Lots of fruit and salads but I avoid those when traveling in Asia. Overall not a bad hotel. I'd really like them to replace the carpet and upgrade the English levels of the staff.
"Elegant Hotel but showing some age."
You can see why this has been a SPG Luxury Collection hotel. There are certainly signs of previous grandeur but it needs a bit of a touch-up at this point. Received a complimentary upgrade to a suite, as well as breakfast buffet access for our entire group. Very much appreciated. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station in Shanghai's excellent network. There are several excellent neighborhood restaurants across the street from the hotel, which were MUCH better in quality than anything around the Bund area.
"Great mid level business hotel in Pudong"
I stayed at the Hongta Hotel for a couple of nights at the beginning of March while attending the East China Fair at the New International Expo Ctr. Overall it was pretty good, I would stay here again if I needed to be nearby. Like others said, it used to be a St Regis, so you can get an idea that the hardware is good but a little bit dated. the good: 1) Big rooms. Comfortable beds, very big bathroom 2) Decent location. Easy to find restaurants closeby 3) Great service. Helpful staff The Not So Good: 1) A bit further from the subway than I'd like - about a 15 minute walk 2) Not as close to the New International Expo Ctr as it looks on a map. It takes about 30 minutes to get there, I thought it would be quicker. I would stay here again if I needed to be nearby. It is a good choice for those looking for value.
