Hotel dated. Paint chipped on skirting boards and wardrobe door. Service was 5 star but accommodation was not. As this was a birthday stay I was disappointed as we did not get the 5 star luxury expected.
"Cascade of Unfortunate Events Leads to Negative Experience"
I was very much looking forward to my first stay at the Windsor. When in Melbourne I would regularly use the Cricketers Bar to rendezvous with friends and I was keen to see more of this iconic Melbourne institution. It is therefore regrettable that I feel compelled to write the following comments. I arrived at the hotel at around 4:00pm on Sunday 4 December. Things went very well upon arrival, being greeted as I alighted from the cab and immediately made to feel welcome. Unfortunately, things started to go down hill when I reached the check in desk. I explained that my employer (a Queensland Government department) had arranged payment of the accommodation cost through a corporate credit card from Brisbane. I was told the accommodation had not been paid for and that the hotel required my credit card. I advised that I was told this would not be necessary. At this point I was struck by the distinct impression that I was wearing out my welcome, and what's more, there was no hope of reconciliation. I was then repeatedly told to hand over my credit card, which of course, I did. My check in was then swiftly completed, however, I felt distinctly isolated by the experience because at no time during the transaction did I feel there was any attempt by the staff member to see things from my perspective. Upon receiving the key to my room (137) I was directed to the lifts and as I made my way by myself through the corridors, I remember thinking, service is much more than a smile. I am not prone to paranoia, but when I entered room 137, it occurred to me that if this was the best room available on a Sunday night then the Windsor must be doing very brisk business. The size of the room was not a concern as I'd been pre-warned room sizes were governed by the building's original specifications. Also, the interior décor was very pleasing and the room itself was well equipped and very comfortable. The complete lack of natural light did however, tended to promote a feeling of claustrophobia I had not experienced since my last caving expedition. Drawing back the curtain did not alleviate the situation as the window looked out onto the bottom of a deep dim shaft that resembled a scene from a Dickens novel. As a consequence, my two nights in the hotel were filled with interrupted sleep as I found myself continually waking up to check the time. I attempted to facilitate payment on Monday 5 December. Unfortunately, lack of space prevents me from describing this. Very sorry.
"Beuatiful old building"
Nice place to stay. Very quiet. Bit pricey for what you get but it is towards the top end of town. Easy access to the Melbourne CBD and all it had to offer. Staff are extremely pleasant. Will stay again in the future.
"Grand old girl"
Booked online as part of a flights and accommodation package so had little idea what to expect. Was blown away when I arrived! Right opposite parliament house, a short stroll from the Princess Theatre, the location is excellent. It is a beautiful building from the outside, all elegant old world charm..........and then the nice man with the top hat opens your taxi door and takes your luggage!! (at this stage I was wondering if I was at the right hotel!) The service is outstanding through all areas of the hotel - fabulous, warm, friendly people. Room was a traditional room so one of their smaller options.....it was attractively decorated and comfortable, bed was super comfy AND they have a pillow menu. Room service was quick and yummy and delivered by yet another elegantly dressed and charming staff member. I couldn't fault my stay and will definitely come back again. If I could make just one suggestion it would be that it would be nice to see some more gluten free options on the menu..the eggs benedict looked so good... a gluten free toast would have made my day.
"Step back in Time"
The Windsor is a beautiful old building our room was spacious the service from the staff excellent, particularly at breakfast very attentive and kind the room so beautiful However our room was really needing some attention the carpet really stained and looked dirty the furnishings none complimented the other the drapes dusty and dirty, the TV 📺 was snowy and unclear the room definitely not my idea of 5 stars. I hope they can invest in renovating it soon.
