"Stunning hotel but need a new chef "
We stayed for 1 night at the kala. We had an amazing room, very clean (few ants around the bath and friendly geckos made an apperance) We had our own private pool but because it had a roof and was freezing cold we couldn't go in it. The views are incredible and the reception staff were friendly with good English. The reason I have only given this hotel a 3* is because we got this on a deal at a fraction of the usual price and if I had paid the usual rate I would not have been happy with the insects in the room, the cold pool, breakfast. The restaurant was pretty awful!! The staff could not speak English. I order the mixed grill. And while the waiter was walking away. I told him. That I would like it to be rare. Both our meals we waited a hour for and it was extremely over done! The actually table moved while I was trying to cut my steak. Chicken was dry as well any my companies lamb For the cost of this meal, In koh Samui we could have eaten anywhere and next time if we decide to go back for the views. We will eat out. For the price, we expected better. Breakfast we laughable. Not only where there a fly problem. (Expected outside in the heat) The poached eggs were hard Boiled and the bacon... was basically just a bit of fat. It's so disappointing as the hotel we amazing and the views are stunning to have such a letdown at the restaurant.. big problems !! Lovely hotel avoid restaurant!
"Horrible staff and bad service, don't go there"
This is my second time staying in the KaLa Samui. The first time everything was good. The second time the reception staff are so unprofessional, speak bad English and even shouted at the customers like they are the boss. Her attitude was so bad, and she was trying to make money by herself by lying that I need to pay her 3000 baht if I want to leave my bags for 2 hours after check out. I tried to call her manager about this scam, she got scared and refused to give me her name. Her bad attitude will ruin anyone's holiday mood so don't waste your money going to this hotel. The taxi they provide also overcharge a lot. There is no beach in the hotel. The hotel has a nice room and nice view but that's all. Don't ruin your holiday by coming here.
"Waking up with cockroach"
We had horrible experience in this hotel, First of all, the service was terrible, mainly at breakfast which is partially served and not buffet (you rally have to grab a waiter to get something to eat). Dishes were never served as described, and the size of the portion is ridiculously small. The watermelon juice had bad sour taste. Secondly, we woke up one of the morning with a cockroach on our pillow (Adding a photo of the "Friend"), we went to complain, and instead of apologizing the front manager made the very surprised "Oh!'" face and asked "Did you sleep with open window'". After showing her this is not appropriate reaction she offered changing all bed-sheets or changing room. we ask to change bed sheets.....and even that proved to be mission impossible for them. The cleaning staff simply made up the room so it will look like they changed the linen.... only after asking AGAIN and showing we are getting upset, they finally changed them. We asked few times to talk with one of the mangers, but got totally ignored. The hotel had often power outages that could be dangerous for electronic devices. The location is also not ideal if you don't wanna rent a scooter or car. The hotel "generously" offers you twice a day shuttle- in the morning to the beach and in the afternoon to the mall (other hotels in such locations have hourly shuttle service). On top of everything, we found cockroach travelling around the breakfast cakes one of the mornings. To summarize, you pay for 5 star hotel and get 2 star at most, and you get rotten hotel in a nice-ish package of 5 star. Typical place that thereat you as a "walking wallet" Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY of this hotel !!!! Hoping that no one will have to go trough this kind of experience on his/hers honey moon.
Stayed for 10 nights whilst attending a wedding on the island. Quite a small hotel and the wedding party pretty much took over the hotel which was very nice. Lovely room with beautiful views. Housekeeping very good. Overall staff very friendly and helpful. Tended to eat out in the evenings but enjoyed a pretty good breakfast every day. Breakfast was available all day which is unusual but very welcome. Took advantage of the happy hour cocktails. Nice stay.
"Fantastic Service, best bang for your buck."
We were looking for a reasonably priced private villa that also had its own private pool, and for the price this is what i found, that had also had solid reviews.... we were not disappointed! All of the Staff were very friendly, accommodating, pleasant, and happy! The breakfast was consistently good every single morning and there were plenty of choices to choose from! (whatever they put in the yogurt is something of another world, it is so good. hopefully i can figure out what they add to it that makes it so tastey) All of the amenities that they have are as advertised. Kayaks, snorkle gear, etc. The private car that you can call the hotel to get to pick you up / drop you off in another area of the island was always very quick, safe, and the drivers were always friendly and fun to talk to, The only criticism i have is that facilitates maybe a little out dated (but this is being truly picky, it's not an issue whatsoever) Would recommend The Kala to anyone who was going to Ko Samui as a couple / on a honeymoon, absolute hidden gem right on the mountain side overlooking the Gulf of Thailand
