"First time in the big apple"
This hotel was a great location, sensible distance from the airport and perfect for Broadway and the City's many attractions. Rooms were spacious, very clean and well maintained. Lounge area with complimentary coffee and tea greatly appreciated too. Bit disappointed to find that the hotel was unable to serve alcohol, due to a change in management. Also found that chocolates or cookies offered in the rooms online were not provided either. The front of the building was covered in scaffolding which sadly could be seen from within our room to the front of hotel, so not as attractive as we would have liked as we approached. Our break was really active but as I am a regular gym user, I only visited the gym twice as I was disappointed to discover both of the treadmills and one of the two cross trainers were out of action, with the TV on the bike not available either. It would have been courteous for the hotel to have notified us in advance of some of these points as our booking had been placed some time ago as it was for a special big birthday. I would definitely recommend for location though and the hotel itself has a lovely feel and style.
We tried The Mansfield for an over night trip to see a play. We chose it for its location to Broadway, price (okay) and availability. It can be summed up in three features: old (NYC hotel code for small rooms), clean, and short on amenities. WiFi is extra, no coffee, no hairdryer, and the smallest tv made in the 21st century. The staff was courteous and helpful. Paid parking is near by but there is no hotel discount.
"Theatre, 9/11 Museum, Strand Bookstore, etc"
We have stayed at The Mansfield twice before and we were very happy. This time, however, we were more than disappointed. We got our room right away but it was not like the rooms we had had in previous visits. It was very, very tiny. Before, we had a sitting room and a bedroom and a small bath for the same cost. $300 plus a night. The air conditioner made such a racket that it was hard to sleep, the desk was broken, as was the window bench. I went to the desk right away and explained that we were "regulars" and not happy with the room. The desk employee never looked up which I thought was rude and reinforced the concept of rude New Yorkers. I asked what they were going to do about it and he finally looked up and said "nothing". I said that I would stay since it was Spring Break and difficult to find other accommodations but I may not come back. He said that was "fine" and was very dismissive. I am really surprised how quickly a place can change. I will not return and would advise others to do the same. Mr. Brown
"Great location & friendly staff"
We stayed 14 nights at the Mansfield, the location was perfect and very easy to get around, the staff very friendly and helpfully. The library with the coffee machine a great deal, for the cold days! There is also a great Gym!
"Great Location and Very Good for the Independent Traveler"
I really like the lobby area for a place to gather but not much offering aside from a coffee machine. For NY travelers who are taking all their meals outside, I thought it was a great spot. Especially like the hard wood floor and the overall décor of the room, enough place to sit, and the bedding was comfortable. I will definitely stay there again, so close to Grand Central and Times Square yet in a quiet street. Starbucks is right around the corner and so is the 5th avenue. Great value/Great Location.
