"Afternoon tea "
Most amazing afternoon tea with a lovely variety. The service was outstanding and really complimented the whole afternoon. The tea and treats were delicious! I would definitely return here as it is a astonishing venue to relax and enjoy yourself.
"A very pleasant stay"
We had booked a three night break in Manchester at the Midland Hotel as a little treat for ourselves - and we were not disappointed. It is a beautiful old hotel; the entrance hall is magnificent with a huge table of beautiful flowers in the centre. We had booked a Superior twin room and Room 445 was extremely spacious and nicely furnished. Each bed was almost a double size and they were extremely comfortable. There was a settee and an armchair and a table with four chairs - it would have been great if we had been there with friends or family as a get-together point. The room and the bathroom were spotless. We were at the back of the hotel overlooking a central courtyard - no view right enough - but it was beautifully quiet in spite of the fact that there was a wedding going on two of the evenings we were there. The breakfast was a buffet style which suited us and we were greeted every morning with a smile and shown to a seat. The Sunday morning was quite busy so we were glad we were not too late as a queue had built up as we were finishing. The staff were excellent and your dishes were whipped away as soon as you were finished with them. The staff in the bar/lounge were also very attentive and we enjoyed 'people watching' as the wedding guests passed by in their finery. We ate one evening at the Garden restaurant and again the staff could not have been more attentive. We did feel the food - especially the starters and the desserts - were rather overpriced for such 'dainty' portions. Not a place to eat if you have a large appetite. Our car was parked for the duration of our stay in a nearby car park which has some arrangement with the hotel for a price concession. The hotel is handy for public transport and the Concierges and Reception staff were helpful in advising how to get where we wanted to go.
"Added Charges with your Afternoon Tea"
We were staying in a hotel close to the Midland and having viewed a documentary on the hotel earlier in the year thought we would treat ourselves to their World Famous Afternoon Tea. The quality of the hotel, the food, the service was very good and very befitting of the hotel's stature. My only concern was the £4.15 charge for a bottle of water and the £4.82 Service Charge that added onto the £22.50 price of the tea itself. Bit of a con really...
Very nice rooms, well appointed. Finally a hotel that puts a plug near the bed for a laptop. Nice bathrooms. Service good. Hot breakfast average but not the worst I've had. Breakfast selection otherwise seemed good. Great location.
I have stayed here on a number of occasions and this remains one of the hotels I enjoy staying in in Manchester. The rooms are large, and well equipped although the furnishing probably need updating. This hotel enjoys a central location and if you like Chinese food or Thai food, it is very near Chinatown. The breakfast I had was reasonable and the choice of acceptable variety although I have had better quality at both the Radisson and Macdonald Townhouse, both hotels in close proximity to the Midland. All in all this is a relaxing hotel to stay in.
