"Morning tea: terrific"
I was at the end of a number of weeks of traveling and found out about the teas at the Mount Nelson Hotel so made this my last stop before the airport on a Sunday morning...it was delightful and made me wish I had been sooner...possibly more often! I had a table looking over the garden, a great selection of savoury and sweet treats and a selection of teas...I don't usually drink tea, but the hotel's own blend was delicious and I drank the whole pot. Very elegant setting with unobtrusive and unfailing polite staff, yet friendly once I started a conversation. Someone just walking in is a little unusual, I think, but it is really worth dropping in for one of the teas to experience a little bit of calmness and beauty.
"Beautiful and elegant hotrk"
We stayed here for 5 nights. It is the most elegant hotel in a fantastic setting. The gardens and flowers were beautiful. Service was warm and friendly and breakfasts were outstanding. We had a room (suite) in a separate building called Hemsley hotel - it was a stunning and very spacious room immaculately decorated. The views from our window overlooked Hof street but with amazing views of Table Mountain that felt really quite close. The lunch/snack menu was very good - food of a high quality and reasonably priced. Certainly will revisit.
"Overall very good."
Our suite, 501, was generally well appointed, with lots of room, and a big, comfy bed. Slight let downs were the lack of pressure in the shower (it was huge, and to look at it, promised so much too!), and the fact that its outlook was over a very dodgy looking block of flats, with people hanging out over their balconies, meaning we kept out our curtains shut most of the time. The concierge are very good, as are almost all staff we encountered. Professional and well trained. The breakfast is very good, with options for most tastes. The buffet lunch (held in the same area as breakfast) also offers plenty of quality food at reasonable prices. The food in the lounge bar area is very disappointing. The menu is weak, badly thought out, and offers poor choices. Sitting as the only other restaurant option to the main fine dining restaurant, it should be very good brasserie food, but isn't. It absolutely needs a close look at by the management, both in respect of the standard of food, and in respect of the menu choices. I also don't understand why they allow the lounge area to be the main thoroughfare from the main outside to the hotel itself. The result is that those who are dressed for dinner and sitting quietly listening to the rather good pianist, are treated to a succession of people traipsing by them and through the hotel to get to their rooms. Often these people are either in swimwear or beach type gear. Not what you want when relaxing with an early evening drink. We liked the adults only pool. In mid Jan it was quiet, but I understand at peak times it is a bit of a bun fight for beds, which I wouldn't have enjoyed, as it was lovely when quieter. The whinges are largely nit-picking though, as there is much to love, and I would happily return.
"High Tea & birthday celebration"
Definitely a must: high tea! Lecker cake, lecker sandwich, earl grey my favorite! Old fashioned stile - amazing. Great service, live piano For the birthday girl a birthday platter. Wonderful atmosphere!
"Comfortable and Classy!"
The hotel is true to its rating! We had a lovely stay! It was always busy and crowded! The housekeeping staff was very attentive. The decor, ambience, gardens, views were amazing! The service during tea was a bit slow! But I noticed service in Cape Town largely relaxed overall:-)
