"Wonderful Colonial Hotel"
Everything about this lovely old hotel oozes style and class. All staff are so helpful and friendly. The food is delicious - you must try the afternoon tea - it is simply sumptuous and has to be the best value in the world. Lovely peaceful location with beautiful gardens- I cannot praise this hotel enough
"Like staying on a private estate "
If you like grand-olde-dame historic hotel type of places you will love the Nellie. We loved it. It felt like living on a private estate, with beautiful grounds, multiple buildings, and two swimming pools. Research the different types of rooms/buildings to make sure you get the type of room/location/view that you want. We went for a balcony room with a view of table mountain. I thought we were going to be in the main original building but our room was in an annex building that turned out to be lovely. Any of the rooms overlooking the garden/pool areas would be lovely too. Room was not huge but it was well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. The location of the hotel worked for us. Tourist double decker bus stops half a block away. Company gardens directly across the road. Quick cab ride to the waterfront area. We enjoyed the chef's table dinner and the afternoon tea. The hotel bar was a great spot too.
"A wonderful oasis in busy Cape Town"
This was our first trip to Cape Town, and our choice came down to the Mount Nelson or the Cape Grace. We chose the Nellie because we thought it more reflected something that was unique to Cape Town as opposed to a hotel that could be in any big city. We also wanted to be "in town" as opposed to on the waterfront, which seemed a bit touristy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel, which is more of a compound than a single building. We used a car or a cab each day to get around town and also explore the Cape Peninsula, Table Mountain, etc. One can also walk from the hotel's pillared front entrance to the nearby "Company Gardens" where the Dutch East India Company first established a permanent settlement on the Cape, and the historic government buildings that border it.
"A Place I could Move Into"
Every thing was First Class, can't say enough on how good the service was. We enjoyed all the food from all the dining rooms right up to room service food. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet but quality is good. WIFI is spotty in some rooms. Hotel provides shuttle service to the waterfront and will pick you up from other areas if you make arrangements. Reception will change American money for local currency if needed. Best thing we liked is laundry service. if requested they will come back folded, cardboard collar holders and wrapped in plastic. Just like you would find when buying a new shirt. Laundry is delivered to your room in a woven rectangular basket, wrapped in tissue paper and topped with a rose.
"Fantastic hotel and staff"
Stayed at the Mount Nelson at the end of our visit to Cape Town, wished we had booked more days! This hotel is nestled in the centre of cape town but you would not know it from the beautiful grounds and garden, very peaceful. It also has the spectacular backdrop of Table Mountain and the Company's Gardens close by. Kloof Street is also accessible from the hotel for shopping and dining. The staff were great, very welcoming, friendly, and accommodating, they went the extra mile. The room had a balcony which looked over a courtyard area, beautifully planted and a view of table mountain. The colonial architecture and grounds are stunning and the hotel is very well maintained. Ive stayed in a lot of hotels but the Mount Nelson is a cut above, would stay again!
