We stayed here for one night right before Christmas time. Hotel is beautiful and clean, rooms were small (nyc small) but very comfortable. The bathroom was modern and very clean. The lobby had a free hot chocolate bar which i loved with multiple fixings. That was a plus. Kind staff and great location. Would definitely return.
"What's not to love'"
Background, I'm a long time Kimptonite. I've been in Kimptons all around the US, from SF to DC, LA, OH, UT, WA, OR, FL, PA etc. I know the company is changing but overall I'm a huge fan of the brand. This was my first time at the Muse, and I really liked it. It's classic Kimpton...clean, modern, well-appointed. Not kitschy nor pretentious. The staff was professional and warm. The night auditor Tony was superb, a real professional. I only stayed one night so I didn't get to check out the restaurant, gym etc but in terms of the room (double queen) and staff I can't think of anything I'd change. Except maybe the $10 Fred water but it's NYC right' Besides, the raid the mini bar card was $15.
"Perfect location, great staff but, a bit loud"
Ambiance/Location: just a few steps from Times square. Perfect starting point for exploring Manhattan. Near to plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and all the sightseeing locations. This also means, it is loud at night. The hotel furniture is quite luxurious. We felt comfortable. Service/Rooms: The staff is great. Do not hesitate to ask them for advice on restaurants or everything else. The will help you with pleasure and they have good hints. They try to match with every expectation. The room is clean, spacious and meets all the requirements you could have. The bed is comfortable and we sleep well. Only the windows are poorly insulated so you hear all the noiz from the streets and if it's cold outside, you need the heating which is loud too. This doesn't bother us as much as it may others. Food (Dinner): We strongly recommend a visit in the Nios Restaurant. It was fabulous! Between 5pm and 6pm there is free wine for all guests. That is really nice even if it's always the same wine. We didn't had Breakfast in the Hotel, so we cannot say anything about that. Prices on the List in our room, were not too high and matches with the normal prices in NYC. Price/Performace ratio: The price for our stay was fair and we absolutely recommend this hotel for a city trip on which you are looking also for a nice stay near the heart of New York City.
"A Mixed Bag"
We are Kimpton regulars. Regarding this hotel, I have mixed feelings about our 5 night stay. #1) My wife and I went to NYC for our 43rd wedding anniversary. We mentioned, when we made our reservations, that it was our anniversary. My wife's sister and her husband joined us and were celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary. They received a room upgrade and a bottle of champagne in their room. We also received a room upgrade.....but only after reminding them that it was our anniversary, too. And, we never received any champagne, even though the guy at the desk mentioned it. #2) Three of the mornings we were awakened by a very loud cleaning staff in the hallway. We were in NYC on vacation, enjoyed the evenings and tried to "sleep in". No such luck. If we were there on business and had to be up at 6 or 7, then it would have been fine. #3) Advice on where to go and how to navigate the city varied dramatically. Some hotel staff were very helpful / informative while others didn't know or acted as if they couldn't care less. #4) Wine service was nice and the wine was delicious though the lobby is really uncomfortable....no chairs, only benches. On most nights, they did a final call. One night they closed up without letting the customers know. They were there and then they weren't. Also, other Kimptons that we have stayed at served appetizers. This one did not. #5) Coffee service in the lobby ended too early for "vacationers". #6) On the positive side: a) The room was very nice. Small as expected, but modern / updated, fresh, clean, nicely decorated, etc. The bathroom was the same. b) The location is perfect for attending plays. We walked (less than 10 minutes) to 3 theaters. And, many other theaters are very close by. Times Square is half a block away. c) The restaurant in the hotel was good, but has a limited menu. My past experiences with Kimptons have been really good across the board....nice rooms, good locations and great customer service throughout our stay. The Muse was not consistently good across the board and at times, the quality of their customer service was far less than expected. Therefore, the Muse gets a 3-rating from me.
I've been to New York countless times and stayed in various hotels and apartments. I have also stayed at some of the best hotels in the world. The Muse is a small boutique hotel on 46th, 5 minutes from Times Square but don't imagine this is a touristy hotel, it is perfectly situated and the casual friendly foyer, reception, bar, restaurant and staff make for a great business or city break. My wife and I are in New York 5-6 times a year and this is our 1st choice. Thanks to all staff.
