"Amazing service and attention to detail!"
The location and grounds of this hotel is superb, as is the elegant and impressive design of the hotel itself. There is no better hotel to stay if you wish to visit the Taj Mahal. The restaurants and food were excellent, as are the rooms with their views of the Taj Mahal. But the most distinguishing feature of this hotel from the rest is the service level, consideration to guests, and attention to detail given by each and every one of the staff. All have received training to a very high standard. No individual tipping is accepted and no service charge is levied. You put any tip you wish to make into an envelope to be shared amongst all the staff, naming any individuals who provided an exceptional level of service. All the staff were so well dressed in smart and attractive Indian dress (unlike some other 5* hotels). The level of helpfulness and consideration by all staff was unsurpassed. The staff gave a happy and cohesive feel to the hotel. Definitely one of the best 5* hotels we have visited. This was the 7th hotel we had stayed during this trip, so we had very recent experience.
"The Finest Taj Mahal Experience"
Our stay at the Oberoi Amarvilas coincided with our anniversary. And the hotel and all its staff made it a memorable visit starting at the moment we arrived and were met at the Agra train station by their warm and welcoming liveried drivers. Our balconied 4th floor room had a spot-on view of the Taj Mahal that will forever be a treasured memory. Thanks again to all at the hotel who made our visit so special
"Expensive, beautiful, and did I say expensive'"
The Oberoi Amarvilas is, as pointed out by others, the closest hotel to the Taj Mahal; nevertheless, you'll probably take an electric cart to get to the Taj, as the intervening neighborhood is uneven. And: every room is reported to have a view of the Taj Mahal. However, the view from our second floor room included only the dome of the Taj and parts of the minarets; that limited view wasn't very meaningful to me. What I did enjoy were the beautiful public spaces and the spectacular gardens that surrounded the hotel. Service was extraordinarily gracious. Our room was comfortable and spacious, and included a huge bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower, and a walk-in closet with plenty of space for luggage. It wasn't flawless, though: the wood floor was sticky (perhaps recently refinished'). Stepping on a screw left in the area rug did not suggest the careful housekeeping that might be expected at an Oberoi property. The biggest annoyance was that free wi-fi was limited to 30 minutes per day (with the opportunity to purchase additional packages of wi-fi access, of course). I logged on for three minutes, then logged off, planning to use the additional 27 minutes at a later time. Wrong move: although the Oberoi policy is silent on this point, it turns out that the 30 minutes must be used continuously--and my 3 minutes of use consumed my entire quota. The Oberoi associate "expressed regret" about this policy but provided no corrective action. So budget lots of rupees for your stay at the Oberoi (where I discovered a Kingfisher will cost 636 INR, nearly $10, and more than twice the cost for the sand beer at an upscale restaurant in Delhi.). After our one night stay at the Oberoi, we continued our stay in Agra at the Courtyard by Marriott, which provided a better overall experience at a fraction of the cost.
Beautiful hotel, overlooking the Taj Mahal. An oasis of peace in the touristic city of Agra. All rooms have a view of the Taj Mahal. Our room had a balcony overlooking the pool. Watching the sunset and sunrise from the balcony is such an incredible experience. Fantastic food in the restaurant (the chef even cooked special meals for us), infinity pool one of the best I have seen. The staff's kindness and overall attentiveness also contributed to an unforgettable stay.
"Closest hotel to the Taj Mahal "
Every room in this hotel has a view of the Taj Mahal and the fabrics in the room are also beautiful . The hotel will take you on a hotel golf buggy to the Taj Mahal. Incredible pool area that is so stylish and gardens modelled on the Taj Mahal . The food was good rather than amazing and I think this is a 1 or 2 night stop over hotel rather than a destination for a holiday . We both thought some of the staff tried a little too hard but overall it's a great hotel .
