"Treatment like royalty !"
The Oberoi Amarvillas does everything in its possibility to give you a better than being at home feeling. The bar / lobby and all rooms have a wonderful view on Taj Mahal from les than a kilometer. Due to start of low season, our rooms were upgraded to rooms on third floor with a balcony , with view from higher up on Taj Mahal and also on the gardens and the swimming pool. Well appreciated ! Thanks to reception staff and management ! The swimming pool and architecture of the buildings surrounding was so beautiful. The water temperature was really good. Because we had given ourselves a special treat , we stayed for two nights in Oberoi amarvillas and could enjoy twice a very nice breakfast and twice a very good dinner , one in each restaurant. Once we have chosen international food , I myself had a very nice sushi dish . The other evening we had Indian food, nicely prepared , both times with excellent service ! We would definitively like to come back but we know visiting the Taj Mahal and staying in Oberoi Amarvillas is very probably a once in a lifetime experience; so if you want to make the best out of this exclusive occasion, we strongly recommend this nice hotel ! .
"Excellent Location. Amazing Views. Super Staff."
The first stop on our road trip around North East India. The team at Oberon Amarvilas gave us an amazing welcome. The hotel grounds are magnificent, with a dramatic pool at the bottom of tiered gardens. As you stand on the patio outside the bar area you look across this sunken oasis, past a line of trees, to the Taj Mahal. Most pictures of this view either make the Taj Mahal look small or overly close. None do it justice. It is a view only beaten by actually visiting the iconic mausoleum itself. The hotel facilities are excellent. Rooms are a generous size. We had diner and breakfast in the Bellevue Restaurant. The staff could not be more hospitable, even remembered our names and room numbers from the night before when we returned for breakfast. They truly looked after us. *** If you see the Pistachio Croissant in the breakfast buffet - try it! BEST EVER! *** We've been looking for pistachio croissants ever since - no sign of them anywhere else. Sadly we had only enough time in our schedule for a single night stay at Agra but we will most certainly return and stay here again.
The hotel was amazing, the view unbelievable, the pool heavenly, but the most outstanding part of our visit was the charming, attentive, generous, courteous and professional staff. We had a lovely meal after which the Chef gave us a tour of the kitchens, the pastry Chef showed us how to make my traveling companions favorite dessert and the evening finished with lighting balloons off the terrace. The experience was second only to seeing the Taj itself!
"Visit to Agra and the Taj Mahal"
I have no words to express the amazing experience we had at The Oberoi Amarvilas. The place is beyond spectacular, the design is breath taking, the service is superb, the restaurants are exquisite but most importantly the experience of entering this magnificent property, the way your greeted by the staff is something my spouse and I have never experienced before. If you ever want to be treated like royalty, I will encourage you to stay here for as long as your wallet allows it. Our only regret was that we only spent one evening, if we were not traveling back home so soon, we would have change plans and stayed at least one more evening.
"Good for views of the Taj Mahal but does not live up to the Oberoi standard"
I appreciate that many tourists visit this hotel for the Taj Mahal alone, and therefore this review will be of little help to the majority. This is clearly the best hotel if you want to get as close to the Taj as possible. The monument is visible from the room, the bar and the reception area. If you are visiting Agra just to see the Taj, it is worth the money. The hotel is well designed, with an incredible lobby and beautiful garden. The check-in service is swift, and I particularly like the way staff handle any queries and plans to visit the Taj Maha; they will buy the tickets for you and bill them to your room instead of you having to line up outside, and will offer buggy rides to and from the Taj. The staff are also knowledgeable about the monument which I found very helpful. The rooms are not that spacious given their cost (indeed there are several Oberoi hotels that offer far bigger rooms at the same cost) yet obviously it is the location that one is paying for. I am not sure if I would recommend a balcony room; we found it far more comfortable to view the Taj from inside, as at various times throughout the day there was a foul smell outside which made it difficult to enjoy the balcony. My negative experience of the hotel mainly comes down to its standing as an 'Oberoi Hotel' and is therefore probably not relevant to most readers. For example, we had booked a table at the Esphahan restaurant for dinner during check-in, yet when we later went down for our booking, we were informed that no reservation had been made. While I fully appreciate that human error is made by every one of us, what I found frustrating that there was no acknowledgement of this error or even an apology. We were therefore left feeling very lost and confused about what had happened, and later decided to do in-room dining as we had no option left. I appreciate this is a very small matter, and I may be nit-picking. But my experience in this hotel was so far different from every other Oberoi hotel that I have stayed in that I just found it a bit bizarre. Staff at the bar were slow (we had to wait 20-25 minutes for the bill after asking twice), in-room dining left us with just one plate to share between two guests, and staff would continuously eavesdrop on private conversations and then bring them up to us later. I realise that this review is more personal in nature and does not apply to most readers. Therefore, my message to the tourist wishing to see the Taj is to choose this hotel if you are willing to spend the money to be able to see the Taj all day from afar. But if you are looking for service and hospitality equivalent to the standard it is supposed to set, I would advise you to go elsewhere.
