Took my sister here as a birthday treat for afternoon tea. Reserved through open table on line - pretty straight forward. Hotel has a lovely decor. Afternoon tea menu a little confusing as did not match up to how advertised on line. Sandwiches & cakes were replenished if necessary. Lorenzo our waiter was very attentive. Spent about 1hr & 15 mins here. Both of us chose delicious flavoured tea / but don't forget where you are if you want your champagne replenishing. Nice treat but a little over priced.
"Best stay so far"
Really liked the improvements made with the refurbishment as during our previous stay we felt the bedroom room and bathroom were very 'tired' and very shabby. Only one gripe. The expensive cooked breakfast was cold and unappealing
"Nice Art Deco Lounge"
Pros: Nice, relaxing 'Birdcage Lounge' Nicely laid out table - linen tablecloth and napkin Sandwiches good but could be a little fresher. I asked for more but was only handed two Very good selection of teas (27) as the hotel was opened in 1927 Scones nice and fresh Mulled wine jam tasty Harpist from 1.30pm Cons: Service a little slow - it took over 20 minutes to top up my last glass! Didn't pour champagne well - spilt on 2 occasions The waitress didn't know the sandwiches and cakes from the menu - had to read information from a piece of paper Sandwiches could have been a little fresher
"Terrible Sleep. Rumbling trains. Even airport hotels are quieter. "
I was so excited to be given an SPG upgrade to a suite. That's where the good news ended. I had the worst night sleep ever. In fact, I'm writing this review at 5am because I was awoken by the noise. Room 151 overlooks the park and you hear the tube rumbling by every five minutes. The whole room shakes from the Tube until after midnight and then again starting at 5am. Terrible. Plus, there is a ton of automobile traffic that rumbles by all night long. Do not get this room/suite. Request a very high floor. If they can't accommodate you, do not stay here.
"Location and so much more!"
1 - The location of this hotel was perfect for our trip. It was right on the Piccadilly line (a straight 40 minute shot from the airport) and also walking distance to Hyde Park, Westminster, Big Ben, SOHO and even Harrods! 2 - The Tea Service is awesomely old school with great tea options, delicious pastries and sandwiches and a great experience for anyone visiting London or the UK for the first time. 3 - The service was exceptional. Everyone from the doormen, bar and wait staff and even maintenance were awesome (We asked a couple of, what turned out to be pretty silly questions, and they were answered with a polite and professional response). Each and every staff member met us with a smile and a n offer to help in any way. Above all, the concierge staff was outstanding. Every request was met quickly and positively. If they didn't have an answer or solution, they found one immediately. The holiday decorations were great and our room was clean beyond reproach. I can't recommend this hotel enough.
