"Elegant and Luxurious"
The Plaza is one of the most elegant, luxurious hotels in all of New York. It is a fairy tale hotel with old world charm. The rooms are stunning and beautiful. The beds and sheets are incredibly comfortable and the bathrooms with LeLabo products are outstanding. The location on Central Park South and 5th Avenue cannot be beat. The only downside to the location is that the doorman in front and entry staff are inundated with tourists so sometimes you need to let them know you are a guest so they will help you. Normally I would shy away from busy hotels like that but this one is super special so I really didn't mind. The Caudalie spa is also amazing. I had two massages- both were excellent and the setting was beautiful. A suggestion for the hotel would be to add room service from the Todd English food court downstairs. The current room service food is just okay. Overall, staff is lovely, setting is gorgeous and if you want a fairy tale New York experience- this is the place to stay.
"Great centrally located hotel"
This historic hotel is the place to see and be seen, and it's within walking distance of fine restaurants and fabulous shopping on Fifth and Madison Avenues, not for the faint of heart. The service was quite good overall, but there were a few issues. Upon arrival, I noticed the shelves in both closets (we had a junior suite) were covered with dust to the extent I did not want to lay items there. That evening, a housekeeper in the hallway asked if I needed anything, so I informed her that the shelves needed cleaning. She said she would get someone there to clean them. By bedtime, this had not been done. The following morning before leaving the room, I spoke with concierge (they wanted to handle any housecleaning request rather than transfer me). I asked for the room to be cleaned and told her of the dust situation. She assured me it would be taken care of. But it never was, and I did not make a third request. Just didn't use those shelves. But I had also left the pits of complimentary peaches/nectarines supplied on arrival on a small plate to be thrown out by the housekeeper, rather than leave them in the garbage bins. After our cleaning, the discarded fruit was still sitting on the plate in our room. I also noticed that one of the toilets was not cleaned. And this is a suite that includes a butler, who I never saw. At the ultra expensive Palm Court restaurant (pancakes, bacon, OJ, coffee, milk and tip for my hubby cost $140 for one person), I had breakfast alone and spilled my coffee creamer on the table. Despite multiple staff visits upon my requests for more water, etc., the spill was never cleaned until I summoned someone to do so. In such a high-end establishment, one would think any one of these attendants would see fit to wipe up the spill. Overall, a very nice establishment, but the service needs to be commensurate with the rating/reputation and, of course, the expense.
"History, elegance and pampering "
The rooms are beautiful and well appointed with luxurious bedding, furniture, including a separate coat closet and bar setup, heated floors and gold tiles in the bathroom, and beautiful chandeliers. The staff was courteous and helpful and the concierge reserved a quiet table for my breakfast meeting at the Palm Court. The only thing that reminded me of the hotel's age in a negative way, which is over 100 years, is the elevator bank of three slow elevators that took some factoring in as we went to a business dinner in the hotel's ballroom. The dinner food was spectacular, and not easy to do for 300 people. All in all, a wonderful stay.
The ambiance is everything in the movies, and more. From the food court underneath to the grand lobby, nothing beats Christmas in New York by staying here. The friendly doormen usher you into the lobby where a majestic Christmas Tree gives you the Home Alone 2 wow factor. The restaurant is sublime. Truly a great stop on 5th Avenue!
"Worth the price"
Arrived at front desk and was told we had upgrade from junior suite to regular suite. Only difference was a wall between bedroom and living area. Square footage was same. We never used the butler service so not sure if really available. However , the concierge was really all I needed. Melody took care of me the whole 5 days we were there. Would greet me in morning. I would tell her what I wanted to do and she would have options when I left for the day. For instance, wanted a food tour. Melody and Phil , also very helpful, had various choices to choose from which turned out perfect. Rooms, were exceptional in all respects. Would definitely return to such an exceptional and historic hotel.
