"Stay during a coup' No problem!"
My wife and I decided to take the opportunity to visit Istanbul and either end of our vacation to the Amalfi Coast, thanks to some great fares from Turkish Airlines for Atlanta flights. We had one night scheduled on either end of our trip. From contacting ahead of time to schedule an airport pick-up to being greeted with chocolates and champagne in our room, everything was perfect. We realized that the one night at either end of the trip was not going to be enough time to see what we wanted in Istanbul so we changed our flights and traveled back from Naples a day early. The Ritz arranged a full day sightseeing tour with a local guide, absolutely worth every penny, and we had the most memorable day. To cap it off, that night was the night of the coup in Turkey. We sat on our bed overlooking the river and saw the tank on the bridge, watched jets fly past the window, and listened to gunfire coming from Taksim Square. For obvious reasons, it will be a night we will never forget but the staff were incredible. They constantly made sure everyone was okay, they did all they could to help check flights the next day and, despite what was clearly a difficult time for them, they tried to ensure everyone left with a good impression of their country. Special shout out to Cigdem (Guest Services), he was always available and helpful.
The Ritz Carlton is very conveniently located - close to Taxsim Square. The hotel is comfortable with a good range of facilities. However the lobby area is not very spacious or comfortable for meeting visitors. The Bleu Lounge is a relaxing place to have a drink or light meal. Breakfast is ok but not spectacular. A big plus, if you are lucky and you like football, is that it overlooks the Besiktas football stadium so you can have a free, but somewhat restricted, view of any game in the stadium. All in all a good hotel but one of many in the area.
"A very greeting and welcoming stuff ❤"
It is a very comfortable hotel with a very professional and helpful stuff. A very nice view from the atelier restaurant(Breakfast). The only negative point is the slope that you have to walk to get to any place (if you like walking). Otherwise you have to take taxi with is found any time during the day.
Stayed in the Ritz-Carlton Istanbul for work for almost a week in January 2017. Had been there the previous year and loved the hotel, so I repeated. It was even better the second time. I can only say great things about every aspect of this hotel! The room itself was spacious, and I paid extra for the upgrade to a glorious view of the Bosphorous. It is well worth the money! The room had everything I needed, and the minibar was nicely stocked and replenished as necessary. Housekeeping comes twice a day to make sure the room is clean and neat, and if you are not available at a particular time, they will return when you would like them too. The amenities in the hotel are amazing. They basically have three restaurants, each with its own ambience, though some of the food seems to be shared. But all of it is excellent! The breakfasts are amazing, and the only downside is that you have to be careful not to eat too much to be overstuffed for the day. They have something for everyone at breakfast: breakfast cereals and coffee for Americans, any type of eggs you'd like, cheeses, vegetables, Turkish specialties, various cooked foods like sausages, potatoes, etc. I am definitely leaving out some things here but you get the idea. For lunch they have a buffet and also à la cart, Both at the restaurant and the hotel bar, where are you can also get drinks. In the evening I often went to the blue bar/restaurant, which has a much younger, hipster feeling to it, and they have an exciting menu as well. All of the food so very nicely done — Turkish specialties but also more familiar western food such as hamburgers, pizza, pasta, etc. in addition to the restaurants, I took full advantage of the gym, pool, and spa. All are absolutely first rate! The gym is filled with excellent machines, and it's not very crowded. The pool is not huge, but it is ample, and also not usually crowded, so it is terrific for a dip after exercise it seems one can get drinks at the pool, but I didn't opt for that. Full disclosure: it is an indoor pool, since I was there in January. I do not know if they have an outdoor pool. That might be nice in the summer. They have a lovely spa with various spa treatments. I availed myself of a massage once and had a nice experience. But that's not really my thing, and I most enjoyed the gym and the pool. I am saving the best aspect of my trip for last: the amazing service that the truly attentive staff provided. In fact, the endeavors of the staff to go above and beyond in every way have motivated me to write this review. I can begin with what might be considered standard — high-class — staff attentiveness: when you come into the hotel they have hot tea and a milk-based beverage typical of Turkish cuisine (I forget the name at this moment) that they offer you to warm up. Anytime I needed extra towels or to have my room serviced on short notice they were there. All of the staff at the concierge was always extremely helpful to guide me around town. But then let me tell you about what I consider to be the extraordinary treatment I received and greatly appreciate. Let me begin with Jemra. I asked her to have my room serviced and cleaned while I was down working out at the gym and pool. Upon my return I found complementary fruits and a drink, since she said I must be thirsty and hungry after my workout. That was really a nice touch! A lot of snow fell in Istanbul during my stay, and I did have to get into the city. And so the concierge saw to it that their driver would drive me free of charge down to the tram station. In that way I didn't have to battle the snow and walk down the hill. They also offered to pick me up at Taksim square, But I didn't feel it was fair to impose upon them for that, and just took a taxi and paid the 30 Turkish lira for that short ride. The point is that the hotel staff let you know that they are happy to do whatever they can to keep you safe and content in the historic city of Istanbul. Now I am truly saving the most impressive thing for last. My flight was canceled because of snow, As I found out while on the airplane at the airport, where I had to stay for the better part of a full day. I called the hotel to ask if they could book me a room once again for another two nights until the snow past. Not only did they do so, they also sent a driver to pick me up at the airport. It was a pretty miserable day, but it sure felt good to be back at the hotel, which by now really felt like home away from home. There were many challenges at that point and there's one person in particular I'd like to thank: the concierge Gokhan who actually went to the Turkish Airlines office on my behalf to change my ticket. He had to wait there for 2 hours but told me to go to the gym and spa to relax after my miserable day at the airport while he dealt with the airline. That would have been another challenge for me and he took it on. In fact, 2 days later he also called the airline for me to change my flight once again to get an earlier departure from Istanbul since I was running early. In short, Gokhan truly went above and beyond the call of duty in every way possible. And when I thanked (and tipped) him profusely, he protested that this is only his job. Very few people I know in the United States take their job so seriously, and with so much heart! And this is after he did so many other things for me — restaurant reservations, guidelines to the city, taxi reservations, etc. In short, this hotel is outstanding, and the staff is truly amazing! Obviously, I recommend the hotel completely and will always return there when I am in Istanbul. You will not be disappointed!
