"Beautiful old style classic hotel, felt like I was inside an aristocrat's stately home in England"
Stayed here as a treat in Osaka for two nights, got a very good deal including breakfast which was absolutely wonderful. The hotel is ideally located connecting to the Herbis Plaza shopping mall, which is full of upscale boutiques, restaurants and cafes and all connected via underground walkways to Nishi-Umeda train station and metro. The hotel is a very grand classic style hotel, so often people have said it is old fashioned and needs updating, but that is not the point of the hotel to be that style. It is luxury, but not modern decor, I often felt like I was staying in a British aristocrat's grand stately home or a royal palace. Chandeliers hang all over the place and it is full of classic old paintings and antiques. My room was a standard twin room, the carpet looked very out of date, so that could do with a change, but the beds were so comfortable and the marble bathroom was very spacious and well equipped. There were Japanese teas and Nespresso coffee machine with mini bar, but prices for the mini bars are always so expensive, the coffees were complimentary. Lovely Aspery toiletries in the bathroom and all the essentials like toothbrushes, razor, etc are all provided in the room. There is live music in the restaurant with the grand piano, there was a singer and piano player and the place was packed with people, it was lively and looked like fun. I was informed that there was an additional "cover charge" fee just to get a drink at the bar in the evenings which I found odd, as in other hotels they don't have this charge, so there is that plus service charges, does add to being very expensive just to drink at the bar in the evening, so I gave it a miss. Staff were so friendly throughout my stay, so can't complain about anything here other than I was surprised there was an additional fee just to use the ladies changing rooms with the sauna and steam room area in the health club which I complained about. At the Intercontinental nearby, there is no additional fee for hotel residents to use the spa area at all and it is the same with separate sauna and steam room for both women and men. It should be free of any extra costs for hotel guests to use these areas. Both times I used it there was only one or two other women in there using the Japanese bath. I used the swimming pool and there are indoor and outdoor jacuzzis. I like the outside jacuzzi here, surrounded by gardens and a sunbathing area for warm weather and the pool is a very good size for a hotel pool. I can't put any fault on the breakfast, staff were very attentive and friendly, spoke good English and food is fabulous. I would rate this hotel a 5 stars here, but took one off for the fact that they wanted to charge me extra just to use the ladies changing room and steam room area which should be free as the Intercontinental is similar set up and is free for guests. Apart from that and the pointless bar "cover charge" and service fees just to get drinks in the evening, this hotel is definitely the best in Osaka if you want a luxury romantic getaway as it has a very romantic feel to it, rather like being on the set of a period drama sometimes while walking in the corridors. The decor is so old English style I almost forgot I was in Japan!
"At first I disliked it"
but they won me over. Upon arrival (a confusing walk from the train station) it took some time to find the reception. The ground floor is a beehive of shops, restaurants and elevators. But the room was perfect and the staff also. I usually don't eat in hotel restaurants but out of exhaustion chose the in house Italian restaurant. It could not have been better.
"Service and attention to detail beyond comparison!"
Stayed for a single night after a short family vacation to Kyoto. As always the service received was absolutely top notch. My only minor issue is that the room and furniture are dated and worn and are in need of being updated. A special shout out to the staff in the fitness center for graciously providing a swimsuit to my daughter since the pool was simply irresistible. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
"Excellent services for their staffs."
I had a very good expereliences for this hotel. The hotel is in good condition (clean and vintage). Their staffs are very nice, service mind and friendly. Hotel is in the safe and quiet location not too far from JR, subway and shopping and eating area of Osaka station.
"A peaceful retreat from the hussle and bussle of the city"
From entering the hotel (the bell boy started to run down the drive to collect our bags!) the service is absolutely on point. The detail to every touch point throughout the hotel is extraordinary. The room and the amenities within, superb. The outdoor spa located in the fitness centre is a must to try. All in all, a wonderful experience/hotel.
