"Special Weekend !"
This Hotel is everything it is cracked up to be, they say you get what you pay for and they are correct. The decor and comfort of this hotel is delicious and at the same time it made you feel special and very welcome. It was a very special weekend for us as it was our 40th Wedding Anniversary treat and everyone who knew gave us their congrats and best wishes even to the point of piping It in chocolate sauce on my pudding plate in the restaurant which was a lovely gesture. The room was lovely and the shower was great and the Champagne I had ordered was perfect, there was also a complimentary box of chocolates which was a lovely thought so we thank you very much. If I did have any negative comments to make about the room it would be the lack of an enclosed wardrobe as it felt strange to have our clothes hanging in full view and no drawer space to put anything else. With all that said we had a fantastic weekend and the hotel and staff made it that much more special. Thank You.
"Fantastic honeymoon destination!"
We booked this hotel for our honeymoon, and wasn't disappointed! We had the most amazing room (101) which had superb views towards the gardens and city. It was huge, with a roll top bath and sofa, and a king size bed. The lovely staff had left us champagne and chocolates on arrival too, making us feel really special. Car parking wasn't an issue, and we were able to stay until going home from our visit around the city the next day. The staff were great, and we spent the evening in the gorgeous bar downstairs entertained by a duo of singers. The doorman is also very lovely! We will be booking again next year for our anniversary visit (in the same room!) Thank you!
"Unable to get simple toast in this up-market hotel!"
Yesterday I was with my partner, a friend and her toddler daughter for coffee at this venue. We wanted toasted crumpets, toasted muffins or toast. None of these were available until 11.30 when, I assume, lunches and Afternoon Tea would begin to be served. We could have what was on the menu, pain au chocolat, croissants etc but though my friend opted for the crissant, my partner and I went without as we wanted something of what I mentioned first, as described above. In a top quality hotel like this, for no-one to be able to pop a few pieces of toast into a toaster sounds rather incredible to me in these modern times. I ought to've asked for a manager but was too incredulous at the time to think of that. If and when I patronise this establishment again I shall make the same request, should I be there at a similar time ie 10.15, and if my request is not met I probably shall ask to see the manager then. Other than this we all thought the hotel very smart and tastefully decorated in its recent revamp. The staff were helpful and pleasant but even they were surely capable of using a toaster, of which I'm sure this hotel has several.
"Private Lunch Party"
There was a good choice of food at the buffet lunch that was served for the 7 people attending in a private room. Hot food was not presented for service until the last minute to ensure it remained hot when it was served. Delicious puddings served in coffee cups (I had to have more than one as I felt they were a bit on the small side). Red & White wine of a good quality was served before and during the lunch. Tea & coffee was served after we had eaten.
We stayed in this hotel last november, I just realised I never posted this review. We loved the hotel for a two night mid week stay. When we got there we were upgraded to a suite, the room was beautiful and luxury. Great location just walking distance into York city centre. During our stay there were renovations, these are probably done now although they didn't have an impact on our stay. We didn't eat at the hotel as we went into york. We would definitely visit this beautiful hotel again.
