"Wow hotel,not a wow experience! "
We got to the hotel to check it out for our wedding (secretly) and was really excited! It's a beautiful hotel. BUT we was soon disappointed. We checked in and went to our room,(room 111) its a broom cupboard at near a fire escape stair well it's even through a fire door not even on the main hallway. We ask to be moved but they was fully booked so offered us 100 pound off our room . We took this offer . We went out In York that night for a meal and returned around midnight, we spoke to some staff members that were lovely they answered all the questions they could. But on our return to the reception was asked by the manager if we had stolen the bell off the desk !!!! I was horrified but managed to keep a cool head the next day we went to breakfast at 10 am and there literally was nothing left at all everyone was complaining it was just a mess the poor staff members had only one excuse and that was that they was busy ... so all in all I stayed in a nice hotels broom cupboard got accused of stealing and left hungry . We went to a local pub instead.. all for 264 pound -100 for the broom cupboard thank god !!
The hotel is fantastic. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very spacious. We moved to one away from the lifts (which can be rather noisy). The staff were all very attentive, polite and accommodating. I would highly recommend staying here - 5 minute walk to the town centre and 30 seconds from the train station!
Organised a conference and used this hotel as our venue. Conference held in the events centre. Stayed overnight the night before. Room absolutely luxurious. Every little touch thought of and as 'conference organiser' I had a handwritten welcome note and three miniature desserts in my room on arrival. Hotel and room Immaculate and clean. Staff in hotel and for conference all efficient, friendly and professional. The breakfast was lovely and the conference buffet was first rate. Would recommend this hotel highly. Great location too - right next to the railway station and a short walk into York City Centre.
"what a first class hotel"
Stayed for one night for a business trip and the experience was first rate, the place is right next to the train station, which made it extremely convenient, and although large, is very olde worlde, and full of charm, the check in was prompt, and I found my room very quickly, the room was very large and comfortable, and the bed was huge. The bathroom was modern, and the rooms offered luxurious bath robes. The view from the room was superb, and although I did not get much time to look around the city, I will definitely return, The staff were very professional and could not do too much for you - I totally enjoyed the stay, the conference was good and the food was fantastic.
"Business Networking Event"
I attended a networking event at this hotel today for work purposes. A buffet lunch was provided as well as coffee break drinks and pastries. I would not normally do a review on Trip Advisor for such an event but the hospitality was so good and the food was superb I felt I had to. Buffets for these types of events can all be a bit similar and average but not this one. A good mix of wraps, mini burger baps and salads plus quiche and finger foods and a selection of desserts from fruit salad to fresh cream cakes etc was a real wow. Staff professional and friendly. A great venue.
