"Not so nice this time"
I usually have a wonderful experience at The San Luis. I stay here at 3 to 4 times a year. This visit I stayed 2 nights. First when I arrived I was early around 1pm. They said my room wasn't ready. I thought how could this be possible because it was a handicap room and there was barely anyone staying at the Hotel. Regardless I patiently waited at the pool where I never received a call as they said I would receive when my room was ready. At 5:30 I went back to the front desk where I received no apology. While at the pool there were only 1 or 2 servers. It took 30 minutes to receive a menu. The next night I had dinner at Grotto where it took 30 or so minutes to receive our appetizer and were not paid any attention to. Our dinner took forever to be served and the steak was so over cooked when I was very specific I don't like well done. The day we checked out it was storming pretry bad I asked if we could check out late and was told No which I think is ridiculous because there was barely anyone there. Last bad experience was they charged me for valet parking when I self parked my car. I will however go back but they need to pick up the pace and have better customer service if they want to be a 4 star or higher hotel.
""A Tropical Oasis""
The resort is so pretty with it's Palm Trees, Cabanas, swim-up Bar, heated Pool, and an on-site Steak house. The ocean view balconies are great, and you can wake-up to beautiful sunrises! The Guest Services staff are very friendly. Especially Ed Jackson who made us aware of all the resort has to offer. Ed Jackson was very knowledgeable and professional, but most of all he is very friendly and such a pleasant person-it was nice to feel welcomed! Thank you Ed! We had to make some adjustments with our initial reservation which could have been very disappointing. However, Michelle Fichera was determined not to disappoint us. Michelle was very professional, patient, pleasant andcourteous. She managed our accommodations skillfully and with care. Thank you Michelle! Overall, The San Luis Resort is a great place to vacation and relax. I will definately return, treat my mother and sister to such a delightful resort, and a visit to the on-site Spa for my mom's birthday. Thank you!
While this might be in the middle of all the craziness of Galveston, the San Luis hotel is a great place to have your family get away. It's beautiful atmosphere and great view of the beach make for the best vacation.
"Family beach getaway"
This resort was so much fun with its friendly staff and heated pool and waterfall spa. My 3 kids enjoyed playing with the parrot at the lobby and sliding down the water slides while my wife and I enjoyed the pool bar.
"Best in Galveston"
To make sure you have an unobstructed ocean view, book a room on floors 7-9 (like we've been in for two days) so you can stare down on the pool and its colorful cabanas then beyond to the ocean and watch the waves roll in. This is a perfectly fine hotel and hubby and I are used to the good ones. It has well designed modern rooms with a full length mirror, a safe, and a sleek and fully stocked bathroom. The bed gave a perfect sleep while supporting my finicky back--unlike some of the overly puffy pillow top mattresses many hotels have gone to. The room has an enormously comfy chair I've sat in reading, peeking at the ocean now and then, my feet up on the ottoman. Hooked up to the hotel's free, fast WiFi, hubby took possession of the desk and its comfy chair. Breakfasts were close to great (well, the coffee could have been hotter), especially the delicious omelette offered all day. Unfortunately, by the time we thought of having Valentine dinner at The Grotto here in the hotel, it was booked solid until 10 pm. Tired from gallivanting about the island, we're having carryout in our room for which room service will gladly supply 2 place settings if we ask like we did last night. The hotel has a small immaculate gym with the usual upscale equipment and fruity water. I didn't use the spa but I still may get a pedicure before we check out tomorrow. Most of all, the staff here are so friendly and helpful, they go to almost any lengths to make you happy. Somehow they manage to always offer genuine smiles. You'll love these folks. The only flaw I've noticed was a bedside light socket that didn't work. We know it would have been fixed, if we asked. Goodbye to the others, this is now our Galveston hotel, except when we come for the Hotel Galvez's annual Thanksgiving and/or Christmas buffets. Even staying there for the buffets may change. Next time at the San Luis, we'll try Club 10 (a 10th floor room) as recommended by other reviewers. For now, we are two thoroughly happy guests.
