"Enormous private villas and picture postcard views"
Just returned from 4 nights at The Shore (room 8828) - there was two of us but we had a two-bed villa which was unbelievably huge. The two-bed villas benefit from a much larger wrap around infinity pool which we made plenty of use of. Our lower level and pool area had views of the jungle and upstairs we had sea views from our outdoor lounge - so the best of both worlds. The hotel is small and intimate - with c. 48 individual rooms. Some people complain about a lack of sun but we definitely didn't have that problem. There is a small collection of restaurants and shops directly outside the hotel which are perfect for buying drinks etc. Should you want more choice Kata is a 5mins taxi ride (c 200 baht which way). The hotel buggies are super and will take you to any of restaurants at the Katathani. We also used them to take us back to our room from visiting the shops opposite the Katathani reception. All the staff across the board are extremely warm, friendly and helpful. Jessie on reception was fantastic helping us organise dinner reservations, taxis - we took trips to Big Buddha, Old Town Phuket and a sea kayak tour to Phanga Nga (James Bond Island). Nothing was too much trouble. It's worth mentioning that they can add all these charges to your room so there's no need to constantly draw cash. The breakfast is excellent with a wide choice of fresh fruit, continental meats, daily specials, Thai option and a chef to make omelettes and bring them to your table. We also made use of the restaurants, bars and pool at the Katathani next door - The Coconut bar is very reasonable and great for cocktail hour whilst watching the sunset. We ate dinner at The Harbour on the last evening and whilst not cheap, it's definitely of a high standard. The staff at the Harbour made a great impression by remembering our previous drink orders and even pre-empting them! It's worth mentioning that we opted for full board option so made full use of this by eating across the resort. I would say that The Harbour for lunch is probably the best option with Fishermans Wharf for dinner (excellent variety of fresh seafood on display). The main pool was never that busy as most guests tend to stay in their rooms and enjoy the privacy of their own pools. Mon Tri restaurant is a great spot for lunch and affords you views of Kata Noi from the other end of the beach. Ask the hotel to make a reservation and Mon Tri will send a private car free of charge to collect you and bring you back. I would also highly recommend taking a parasailing trip from Kata Noi - the views are incredible, the equipment brand new and very safety conscious staff. The hotel will provide you with snorkelling equipment, though I would suggest going as early as possible in the morning as visibility isn't great in the afternoon. All in all a stunning hotel with divine villas and one which we will be returning to next year!
"Very nice hotel but needs improvement on details"
We stayed at the Shore for 6 days as part of our honeymoon. The location of the hotel is really nice, however, be aware that Kata Beach is in an area known for its rains so expect 1 hour of rain per day. We loved the room and of course, the infinity pool of our room overlooking a beautiful view. The breakfast and the restaurant are very good. The problem with this hotel are the details, such as room service, which left us unsatisfied. For example, you have to put a little turtle on the bed if you do NOT want to change your bedsheets, so we put it on the bed; however, the days we did not put the bedsheets were not changed. Another example, we ordered room service, everything got removed apart from two spoons that remained on the table for 3 days and on the 4th day without washing them! Room service put them in the wardrobe with the other spoons... We were also surprised to see so many pipes between the villas; it gives the impression that no effort was done to try to hide these. In summary, this is a good hotel, but it does not have room service worthy of a five-star hotel.
"Pricy but great stay at The Shore"
My family and I stayed five nights at The Shore at Katathani. We had a two bedrooms villa (8837). The Villa in itself was amazing, with two massive floors, a nice living room with forest view and modern amenities and a large swimming pool. However, the view was disappointing considering the price and the way it is advertised (view on the neighbors, the walkway and mainly on the forest instead of the requested seaview). At our arrival, we were well welcomed by the front office team and received all the useful information about the resort and its services. All your staff was perfect and tried to help at anytime. The resorts restaurants (La Scala, Fisherman are also of high quality and with attractive prices). I will then remove one star for the view and the cleanliness of my bathroom (found a cigarette on the wooden floor) and keep a good memory of my stay.
"If you’re after something extra special, I recommend The Shore at Katathani"
If you’re after something extra special, I recommend The Shore at Katathani, staying in one of the resort’s luxurious private bungalows, which includes your very own pool, sun lounges to laze the day away “is probably the most luxurious, set on a crazy steep hillside with private bungalows among the gardens.” The Shore at Katathani “It’s on a huge beach area along Kata No. You will have a great stay.
"Above expectatio , true paradise"
We stayed at the Amatara resort in a Ocean Pool Villa, a 5 stars resort with private pool and we have been very disapointed. When we moved to the shore our expecation wasn't so high after our first experience with thai hotel. However it has been something completly different, from the check in to the check out everything was top noch, amazing, brilliant.... the service quality is really high, staff speak good english, the room is gorgeous, the breakfast delicious, the staff so helpfull and professional, not to mention the room service whish was unbeliveable ! We have stayed in many palace and 5 stars hotels mainly in Europe (as french Parisian Palace provide very high quality of service) and in the US and the quality at the shore is the same or above ! It is really a paradise on earth everything go so smooth with them! Two noticeable weakness : The Wifi which was slower than in the plane, and the time you have to wait for the buggy, maybe also the private pool water quality which was salted and a bit trouble.
