"I dont like getting duped - 4 stars' I think not!"
I am an avid traveler but this was my first time to NYC. I booked the hotel because it was labeled a 4 star hotel (I typically wont stay in anything less than 4 stars) but it was a 2 star hotel in my opinion...2 1/2 stars at best. I really hate feeling duped. When I showed up, I knew it wasn't good. It was like walking into a DUNGEON, literally. There are pillars all in the middle of the front desk check in area...really odd...almost like they had to put them there for stability...The front desk staff was ok, but thats expected, I can always judge a hotel by the front desk people...uniforms were grungy....the hotel is RUN DOWN...the elevators felt like they were going to break everytime I was in it and honeslty only 2 people can fit in there...4 would be crammed. The hall ways are tiny as hell...the bedroom (1 bedroom suite) was horrible. Some very wierd design...worn carpet, furniture, etc. Definitely not like the photos show...this was very misrepresented to me on thier website, etc. They had decent reviews, but now I know most must be fake...all the ones that are 3 star or below are real...trust me. No coffee maker...really' Not even a hot water maker to make tea or coffee myself... 4 star hotel' lol No room bar or goodies. The ac units (yes 2 of them) stunk and did not work well...all beat up...the massage chair that I was actually excited about was broken, and totally worn out, im pretty clean and picky and I did not want to sit on it..its a visual catastrophe...its was a mess... The electricity popped a circuit in the middle of a movie we were watching...took them 15 minutes to come up and flip the switch...lol... Cleaning lady did not leave toilet paper or replace plastic cups that we used...somehow a pillow went missing...lol... The sofa bed was a dirty green sofa, so when the bell man took me up to the room I asked him to bring sheets up because there was no way I would have my daughter sleep on that dirty thing...I even tipped him good and they never showed up with the linen...so of course I had to call later that evening...this place is a joke...there are guys at the door that are suppose to open door for guest, this rarely happened, they were too busy looking pissed off that they are even working there... As I was walking out one day I over heard another guest complaining about quality of hotel and I heard the lady in the front desk tell her "Well this is what you paid for". WOW...this place sucks and am highly disapointed in this hotel. If you check the website, the rooms look great but they are not what you expect....the hotel is old and worn down...CHEAP is the word. A 4 star hotel in my opinion should not look CHEAP or FEEL CHEAP. good location though...but thats not enough for me, sorry. I dont like feeling DUPED! Oh yea, the restaurant is a joke...chicken wings, mozz sticks, egg rolls, etc. lol every day they would add a new flyer in the elevator abotu the daily dinner special...they were the same every day, they just changed the day of the week on the flyer...lol this place needs help-I typically dont give bad reviews but I felt duped, robbed, tricked, mislead by thier website and by the photos of hotel...I felt like I was in a 3rd world country hotel...not in NYC The bathroom is about as big as a porta potty...we had no counter space because there wasnt a counter...the sink resembled an Airport bathroom sink...we had to use the desk in the living room to place our bathroom stuff on...I was a bit embarassed to be staying here unfortunately...
"Cancelled my reservation without even informing me."
They Cancelled my reservation without calling me/mailing me and labelled it as "No show". When i arrived at the hotel the following day they said i have to pay for early checking fee. Think how much irritating it will be.
When I expressed our dissatisfaction, the woman at the counter wouldn't even look me in the eye. They showed us to another room which was exactly the same and said "this is what you paid for." They should completely remodel and get a new reception staff. Keep the bar staff. They were the only positive.
"Center of the Universe."
The rooms are small but adequate. The look and feel of the hotel is contemporary but tasteful, reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright's style. The location cannot be beat. Noise of the city is not an issue at all. We lived in NYC for many years and always return to the Shoreham when we visit.
"nice and clean"
rooms were a little small but what do you expect for NYC!!! I was only there to sleep!! Very adequate for the money. I would stay again in the future. Great location with access to all major attractions like radio city, st patricks etc
