"Lovely hotel, very striking with stunning views"
Stayed at the St.Davids Spa and hotel for a girly weekend break. The hotel itself is very nice, the building is very striking and really adds something to the Cardiff Bay horizon. The views from the hotel are amazing, overlooking the bustling bay. The bar is very relaxed and I would recommend going there for a drink, even if you are not staying. The best part about the room was the floor to ceiling windows with an accessible balcony to soak in the buzz from the bay. Only negative points - the room we were in was pretty average, I would of expected a little more considering the grandness of the rest of the hotel. (And the fact that it is a 5-star hotel) We were also given a 'easy access' room, which was ok, however not requested, it also meant that we didn't have a bath, only a walk-in shower. Which was a shame. We stayed on a Friday and Saturday night, we had the idea to have treatments on the Saturday night and use the spa facilities, however when we went to book Saturday morning, we were told that it was full and we wouldn't be able to have any treatments together until Sunday afternoon. This was pretty disappointing, however our own fault for not booking in advance. Also the parking is pretty expensive at £15 per night per vehicle. Considering that cheaper hotels on the other side of the bay offer free parking facilities when you stay with them, this would be a nice gesture for guests.
Had a lovely stay at the St David's Hotel on Sunday 15th January. Checking in and out was great, staff were very friendly and helpful. Had a lovely modern room with a beautiful view overlooking the bay. After an evening out on the bay we headed back to the hotel bar where the atmosphere was very relaxed. Breakfast was tasty, lots of choice. Car park is to the side of the hotel but does cost £15 for 24hrs. Only thing I can't comment on is the pool/spa area as we didn't have time to use it. Looking forward to our next stay at the hotel...
"Fantastic staff and well located but pool area not as good as expected"
Late booking direct with the hotel was easy. Junior suite was a very good size with great views but heating system was a bit noisy, hard to use and it was needed. Balcony rooms not recommended if you have small children but doors had locks you could remove the keys from. Complementary wine in the room was wasted because it was poor quality - why not leave a bar voucher! Bathroom was a dated (shower curtains!) but clean. Beds were comfortable. Pool facilities were dated/rusty and sauna was a joke if you've experienced Scandinavian hotels. Breakfast was busy but no problems with an order for poached eggs. Restaurant is small so a booking is advised. Food and wine was excellent if you don't like large portions. All staff were really friendly and helpful. Spa staff less so but it was early Sunday when we visited.
"Anniversary weekend away"
My husband bought us a nights stay in the hotel with a spa package for our first wedding anniversary. We arrived early and were allowed to check in. We were told there would be dressing gowns and slippers in the room, but there was only one set - called the reception and another was delivered straight away. Another delivery arrived as well - a bottle of sparkling wine on ice courtesy of the hotel! We went down to the spa and enjoyed the pools and sauna before both having a hot stone massage. Mine was wonderful and relaxing, didn't want to leave! We enjoyed the fizz before going down for dinner. The Maitre d' was lovely and welcoming, and the food was delicious! Very expensive, but quality food and a lovely bottle of wine. We had a lovely time and will definitely be back to enjoy the spa and the food again!
"Lovely hotel but wouldn't say a 5 star "
The hotel itself is very nice, we had a deluxe room which was spacious and had a coffee machine and robes and complimentary water which was nice. However the balcony wasn't great as there is nothing but a thin material between each one which isn't good for privacy and there are no seats or tables on them. The parking costs 15 pound, which is ridiculous for the price you pay for a room. The parking should at least be discounted for guests. The spa also needs some tlc considering it it supposed to be a five star. There is mould around the pool and cracked paint with rusty signs and worn tiles. I would also suggest there being fresh drinking water around the pool and spa area to keep guests hydrated as there is only one old grotty looking water spout, in which the water is luke warm. The changing rooms are also a little small considering the amount of guests. Besides these downfalls we had a lovely stay and the staff were faultless, but I would not rate it a 5 star hotel.
