"Lovely Hotel! "
Came here on 26th April... what can I say a fantastic hotel... friendly staff, great food and service.... I stayed in one of the suites and the balcony and views over the bay where simply amazing, more than I could have hoped for! The only reason I am giving a 4 star as opposed to a 5 is the bathroom of the hotel did not reflect the rest of room... the bathroom was very outdated and looked like something you would find in Spain in the 1980's! Also the room got very hot during the night... I turned the heating down on the thermostat within the room however this made no difference.. But overall a really lovely stay and I would not hesitate coming back!
"Great hotel , shame about the noise"
Lovely hotel, friendly staff. We went for a nice relaxing weekend sadly we didn't quite get that due to the inconsiderate people in adjoining rooms and people above banging around , loud music and various other noises. When we did finally get to sleep we were woken early by the adjoining rooms television. Soundproofing isn't good 😞So we actually left feeling more tired than when we arrived. Plenty of choice at breakfast , some of the staff maybe should smile a little more but all were friendly.
Been here many times and the breakfast lets the hotel down that is not a 5 star breakfast they have tried all sorts they now have new chafing holders no excuse to have cold breakfast the evening menu is fantastic plus the service . In the morning they Need more care and attention and top up less and cook more fresh rather than just fill it to the brim and forget it .
"my sons wedding at St Davids Hotel"
My son had his Wedding Reception there, from the time we arrived to the time we left next morning, the staff went out of there way to make sure that our stay and wedding went flawlessly. The wedding breakfast was outstanding everyone commented especially on the beef .The Hog Roast later that night was to a standered you would expect from a 5 star hotel. All of the staff were friendly and nothing was not to much trouble for them to do.We would like to say thankyou to Claire who was Alex & Angelika s wedding co ordinator and to the Toast Master,& concierge were also outstanding. Thankyou from the randell family and all friends.
We have just returned from our stay at St Davids Hotel & Spa. We visited for a birthday weekend. After hearing it was the best hotel in Cardiff, we booked it & had high hopes. In some aspects it exceeded my expectations, in others it was a let down. We originally headed to St Davids shopping centre & had a shop around before checking in to the hotel, We then drove to the hotel which was around 10 minutes away from the centre and were able to park easily in the hotel car park. We checked in at reception & were over the moon when we were told we had been upgraded to a suite. ( Originally booked a King superior room at £170 a night (Room only) I think its fabulous that this hotel upgrades you whenever they can. It's a really nice touch and immediately puts you in a great mood on arrival. However, when we got to the hotel room we were disappointed with the room itself. It was a huge suite but everything is so dated. Blue leather sofas sat next to a brown leather sofa. Garish curtains and green patterned carpets. When booking I had read the description 'luxurious marble bathroom' I was expecting something quite special but it was a dated bathroom with no wow factor at all. I found this was a common theme throughout the hotel. Definitely needs a refurbishment. If we weren't upgraded, I would have complained about the standard of the room for the money that we paid. However, the views across the bay were stunning. We sat on the balcony with a glass of champagne & I'm assuming this along with location is why they are able to set prices so high. The Spa was good, we didn't have any treatments so I can't comment on why it's award winning. It has a good size swimming pool and two Jacuzzi style pools & a sauna - Fairly standard. We went to Cote Brasserie for dinner at Cardiff Bay & the bay is literally a 3-4 minute walk. It has a wide variety of restaurants & something for everyone there. The staff were absolutely lovely. Everyone we met was so friendly & pleasant. We rang reception to book us a taxi & they called us when it had arrived. They couldn't do enough for you. On check out we were told we owed money for drinks in the bar, we hadn't been in the bar during our stay. Fortunately there were no questions asked they took it straight off for us without any further hassle. I would definitely stay here again, it just lacked the luxury for me personally. I was expecting something a bit more special where the decor was concerned. I wouldnt pay £170 a night (room only) again though thats for sure.
