"Poor restaurant service "
We had dinner here last night. The hotel, grounds, and restaurant are lovely, however we had a disappointing experience at the restaurant for dinner. We ordered about 4 different things to share between a group, and one of the dishes was extremely undercooked. We told the server, which I rarely do, and she said she'd talk to the kitchen about it. Usually at a restaurant they'll make a small gesture to make up for something like this, like for example, take that item off your bill, or offer dessert on the house. Not in this case. They just carried on as if we hadn't said anything, and charges us for the dish. A small gesture would have gone a long way
"Dream getaway with friends"
Despite already being a fan of all Standard Hotels, my weekend with friends at the Standard Spa exceeded all expectations! Starting with the moment I was warmly welcomed by Jorge and Taryn while checking in to the wonderful massage and spa experience I had to the gorgeous room and property to the delicious meals we ate - everything was perfect. I didn't feel like I was staying at a hotel - more like a home away from home. I swam early in the morning and late at night in the gorgeous huge pool, I got advice from Jorge and other staff on restaurants and help with transit. If you want a beautiful, relaxing and fun getaway, reserve your room and make your spa appointments NOW!
"Ghastly service, but high marks for pretentiousness"
We met up with old friends from South Africa for lunch here on a Sunday, and truly had no idea what a pretentious s***show this place can be, even by South Beach standards. Firstly, if you're a naive tourist do bear in mind this place isn't really in South Beach but on a small island that can be annoyingly difficult to reach when traffic is heavy. Secondly, if you dare to use their insanely overpriced valet service, be advised you'll like pay $20 plus tip AND THEN wait up to 20 minutes until they can be bothered to fetch your car. There is only resident parking nearby, so you might as well take an Uber here. Now let's discuss lunch, shall we' The exceptionally healthy menu that of course you want when you come to place like this has myriad options so that you can appear to dine healthy and not exceed your minimal caloric intake. You might choose, for example, the avocado toast, which has some sliced jalapeño hidden in the forest of sprouts on top (along with some sad unripe tiny cubes of tomato interspersed for color). Or you could simply go with one of the many healthy juices, which are unappetizingly brought over in tiny sealed whitish plastic bottles for you to open and pour yourself into your glasses. (Your server is much too busy taking photos of other guests for their Instagram feeds.) Or you could simply omit eating anything and just go hang out by the pool and watch everyone being watched by everyone. We had the delightful opportunity to see a dreadlocked white woman go looking for an oversized iguana being chased by a young boy photographing it dozens of times, an experience that did not disappoint. The preciousness of this moment cannot be understated; our friends from South Africa reveled in these pleasurable moments. The small guest rooms and nearby cabanas looked charming, sort of, in the way that sleeping without earplugs and listening to howling drunks at 4am can be charming (true story, it actually happened). It filled our hearts with delight once we drove back to South Beach that we had the opportunity to witness a typical weekend afternoon here without spending any money. That was truly priceless!
"Miami Beach Sanctuary"
I stayed here on a very rainy weekend, so I was bummed bc who wants to stay in South Beach when it's torrential rain pour and not a peek of sun for days' BUT, this property was amazing every way. The spa amenities, if you're a guest, were lovely. There is a steam room, dry sauna, warm rocks for chilling and reading... It was relaxing to lounge in the jacuzzi under the rain and if it gets too hot, there's an ice pool to dunk in. I took a yoga class, participated in a healing sound bath, played ping pong and backgammon. I don't think I did the spa justice, I could go every, single weekend. What I thought would be a disaster of a weekend due to the rain ended up being the perfect sanctuary instead. All the staff was accommodating, warm, and welcoming but the names I especially remember are Taryn, at the front desk, and Crispy the concierge. And a very special thank you to Amanda Perez who set everything up for me. You are all so hospitable! I'm filled with gratitude and will be back.
"Pool Side Service over the top"
I was a repeat guest and had a request for Oscar who manages the pool area. He remembered me instantly and I found his service to be over the top with exceptional and generous professional courtesies. It's always comforting to connect with someone you worked with before, and that he is still there to help you in the same way.
