"The best hotel in Bangkok with the finest service set in an Oasis in the heart of Bangkok"
Having stayed in almost all the 5 star hotels in Bangkok the Sukhothai remains the finest, most elegant and best hotel in Bangkok mixing traditional classic thai hospitality with western standards and the comforts you'd expect of a high end 5 star hotel. Whilst set in beautiful surroundings like an Oasis in the heart of Bangkok it is and always has been the staff and service that make the Sukhothai special. On my recent visits the staff were all happy again, focused on the future and delivering the finest quality service. As a regular return guest I felt the standards had been slipping in recent years but on 2 recent visits I'm pleased to say the hotel is back to its best. I understand there is a new General Manager, so they are obviously doing a great job. The food is outstanding, and the buffet breakfast at Colonade is one of the best anywhere in the World. The quality of ingredients across all the dining options is outstanding. La Scala for a casual buffet lunch or upscale evening dining can't be missed. I hear the Sunday Brunch at Colonade is famous - but we've not yet tired it. Close to Lumpini Park, on Sathorn Road the location is also great - with a traditional thai local area also nearby with lots of authentic street carts and restaurants too. The spa is amazing and whilst not the biggest or most famous in Bangkok the quality of treatments surpass spas like Mandarin Oriental, Shangri La, etc. This is and never has been the cheapest 5 star hotel in BKK and in recent years I've questioned if its still worth it. Without a doubt - it really is. Stay here and you'll be treated like royalty from start to finish. Thank you again to the Management and staff for restoring my favourite hotel in the World back to its finest.
"Brillliant service with oustanding staff"
We stayed twice in this hotel during our trip to Thailand, because liked it so much. The hotel has a brilliant service, with very hospitable, ready to help in all situations and really very professional staff! The female-concierge Kook was outstanding, as well as her colleagues - Toom, Ing and Ninny. The Sukhothai hotel serves very dellicious buffet breakfast with a wide variety of different dishes. It has a very cosy and silent pool , like a small oasis in the heart of Bangkok. We recommend the Sukhothai hotel to everyone, who values style, comfort and hospitality
"Still my favourite in BKK - oasis of relaxation"
The Sukothai is and styas one of my favourite places to stay. Although the hotel is getting older it does not feel aged or irrelevant. Maybe purely because it is a welcome difference to all the high-rising hotel towers with loud roof-top bars, that flood all over Asia. The Sukothai feels like an oasis of relaxation compared to that. Nice, big rooms (usually lots of wood, which I normally do not like but it works here) and spectacular bathrooms make a pleasant stay. The hotel gardens are very nice and well-kept. Breakfast offers plenty choices for every taste. Service is still outstanding. Relaxing pool area, the gym is a bit dated and needs a revamp. Do not expect great views, the hotel is only a few levels high. Going back to Bangkok next time, I definitely check-in here again.
"Chic Refuge in the Middle of Bustling Bangkok"
We stayed here for a few nights in Bangkok during our honeymoon this year and had an excellent stay. I loved this hotel because it is a serene, low rise, peaceful hotel in the middle of a chaotic city of sky scrapers. Stepping into the resort felt like entering your own private retreat. It was incredible. I felt it was also well located, being a short taxi ride or even a walk to many of the area night life and restaurants. The Banyan Tree with their Moonbar and restaurant is immediately next door. Our room looked out over a little pond courtyard, and my husband and I enjoyed sitting out there with wine or tea. The spa was also fantastic, and we indulged in a half day of treatments that left us feeling relaxed and cleansed! I will say that the nail salon was kind of a rip off. It was the most expensive manicure I ever got and by far and wasn't even very good. The gel polish peeled off in a week. Okay, negatives aside, the restaurants were also excellent - the breakfast buffet was HUGE! Dim sum to pancakes! However, we did not try the afternoon chocolate bar - it was pretty expensive and we just couldn't convince ourselves to spend that much on a non-meal in between meals. We especially like eating by the pool. It was lovely, infinity style, and had great seating at the restraints that overlooked it. We would sit and people watch from under and a covered patio. The hotel is located pretty far from the main tourist points, like the temples, but we took a short can to a river launch, then boated down there through the canals. It was a great experience. The cab back took an hour though to only go 6 miles - so beware of Bangkok traffic! We could walk or take short cans to Siam Square, Patpong and some other points of interest and cabs are very cheap in Bangkok. Our stay here was excellent. I will say it was quite pricey here, so I wouldn't t label this place a "good value." But if you're looking for a little indulgence, you will have an excellent stay at the Sukhothai!
I have been staying in this hotel for 20 years and whilst it is still very good it has lost the edge on service it had before. It was excellent and now good. the same goes for the food. The rooms are still spacious and comfortable - upgrade from a basic room recommended for minimal price difference. Great pool and atmosphere as resort in the city. Beautiful relaxed atmosphere and great cocktail bar - an amazing jazz singer was there on my visit.
