Undoubtably, The Surin Phuket is located at the best beach in Phuket, which was our main reason for choosing it. A pristine, secluded beach, where you might forget the huge development, poured concrete and mass tourism that changed Phuket dramatically over the last 20 years or so. The beach has wonderful fine sand, no rocks, no issues with the tide and clear turquoise water. At times nice waves provided great fun for the whole family, so the pool was rarely used. There is good snorkelling as well, especially at the Amanpuri promontory sea life was plenty and colourful early in the mornings. And being on the west side, you can enjoy spectacular sunsets. But the hotel tops all of this with its almost faultless service, range of facilities and exquisite architecture. As a family of five with three teenage children we stayed at two cottages in the beautiful, lush and fragrant jungle garden on the hillside. The many steps provided a good work-out program, but a buggy was always at hand if needed. The cottages had nice sea views, are spacious, have terraces with daybeds, his and hers closets and sinks (the photos on the hotel's website provide a good impression even though the rooms look slightly sterile which is not the case in reality). As we stayed over Songkran and Easter, some days the hotel was at capacity but was still able to provide a personal service. Only at popular breakfast times it felt sometimes a little bit crowded. Quality, variety and choice of food was outstanding. The setting of the Beach Restaurant is unbeatable and the seafood and as well as the dishes from the live cooking stations at the Thai buffet at Songkran were remarkable. The Poolside restaurant offers an amazing international, Mediterranean and Thai variety, our children loved the quality of the pizza and were wondering if there is an Italian chef among the staff' The whole team around RM Manuel is always approachable, friendly and very helpful, be it at reception (where they solved a misunderstanding, which was the travel agencies fault and not the hotel's, in a generous way), restaurants & bar, housekeeping, water sports centre (where they provided me with a custom made strap for my optical sunglasses for stand-up paddling), Spa (with their fantastic treatment of Thai & oil massage) etc. Nice gestures such as complimentary afternoon teas, cocktail receptions or yoga classes added to the atmosphere and the feeling of being a cherished guest. Room for improvements' Not a lot, indeed. - The Sunset Cafe was rarely frequented during our stay as the menu which was pitched as Italian and Mediterranean seemed to be quite similar to the one at the Poolside restaurant. Why not turn it into a real speciality restaurant so guests would have even more choice and less reasons to leave the resort for dinner. Peruvian-Japanese, Steack-house, anyone' - The whole family enjoyed the Dj-sets at the pool/beach bar as they created a great atmosphere. We would wish they could be extended beyond 8pm. - As the hotel provides organic amenities and tries to be more sustainable why not stop the use of plastic water bottles' For example a group of hotels and tourism organisations in Siem Reap started the campaign "ReFill Not Landfill" and provide reusable Swiss-style aluminium bottles. Last thoughts' If you ever happen to be on Phuket during Songkran, take your family, get good water guns and drive to Patong (the younger your children, the earlier in the day you should go). It is a fantastic atmosphere, many happy people and a great childish, crazy fun for young and old. Afterwards you will be glad to be able to return to serene Surin! Congratulations to RM Manuel and his team and thank you for providing us with such a great experience!
My husband and I spend a wonderful 3 days at The Surin last week. The resort is great, beautiful beach, nice pool, the staff were wonderful! They couldn't do enough for us. For us it was the prefect place for a nice short, relaxing getaway. I would happily book this resort again.
"Best Beach in Phuket"
My wife and I stayed at the Surin for 4 nights a few weeks back. Great hotel located about 20 minutes north of Patong Beach. The best part about the Surin is the white sand private beach. After travelling all through Thailand, it really made us appreciate the more quiet/laid back feel that the Surin beach offers. Crystal clear water and little commotion from passing long tail boats. Staff and service were top notch. Do be aware of the many steps throughout the hotel. Worth paying a little more for a room close to the beach.
"Sooooo many steps!"
I need to explain why I've only given it 3 stars and it's because of the steps. I stayed with my family (hubby, 6yr old and 4mth old). I'd read reviews which mentioned steps but I didn't expect quite as many as there were. 191 between my room and the beach. Some of the steps were really steep too and I usually went bare foot as I became paranoid I was going to trip carrying the baby. It meant that if we forgot something or if one of the kids needed something that we hadn't brought down with us it was a real pain to go all the way back up to our room and then back down again. Admittedly we were getting a good workout but if your little one relies on needing a pushchair for naps or if you have toddlers that insist on walking, this resort may not be the place for you. It really is such a shame. The room we stayed in (209), a hillside cottage, was lovely. Peaceful, private and I thought it was a great idea to have cottages rather than just a big concrete hotel block. They were well maintained and just big enough to get us all in. They are nestled in amongst the trees and we had a good view of the beach and sea. Probably the best room I'd stayed in for a while. The staff were all fantastic. Happy, friendly, accommodating. Can't say anything bad about them. The food was great too. And the beach was lovely and clean, quite and peaceful. There was a kids club. Only open for 2 hours a day but still something to keep my eldest entertained on the odd day. Overall the resort is very nice and that's why it's hard to just give it 3 stars. Those steps were the deal breaker, there really is so many. I'd would whole heartedly recommend this resort to couples looking for a quite weekend away.
