"Delightful hotel in perfect setting"
Beach location could not be better - hotel open, bright, and lush. Good rooms and excellent bedding. Not for the cardiologically-challenged, but the many many stairs do help to metabolize the excellent food and drinks. Rooms in good repair, and staff very attentive - memorable sunset views, great beach bar and restaurants with good (and even authentic) food. An excellent choice for a short family break.
"Best resort to relax in Phucket"
Before booking an hotel or resort, I usually read a sample of all reviews, starting with 2 stars, 1 star and then the other reviews. After years of readings (and then visiting the place), I think I got some skills to distinguish reviews that want only to criticize and the honest ones. This time I want to start reviewing the bad reviews, comparing them with my experience, as I really don’t like deceptive comments. Most of bad comments about the pool concern the tile color (black) and missing or broken tiles. The color look a bit odd at the beginning but after the first hour you get used and we really liked it. I believe the whole pool went under maintenance because it was really perfect The staff criticism is the one that made me very angry. During all our stay there (2 weeks) we had only smiles, they were attentive to our needs, and the few times we needed something their response was fast and efficient. More important, but this is maybe my opinion, the staff does not look stressed, or overloaded. Breakfast: I don’t understand what are people expectations. High quality food, a big variety, with an extra menu where to order lighter stuff or traditional food. At least 6 different kind of fresh juices, from Mango to Ananas. The beach was perfect, but we were in the high season, may be things are different from April on with wind and rain, but they clean it twice per day, and when you compare it with other beaches in Phucket… I read criticisms on the bad amenities or bed hardness. While the latter is a matter of tastes ( We personally like hard-but-not-stone mattress, and we have always slept well, I don’t understand what was wrong on having refillable bottles for shampoos, body lotions, conditioners and repellent sprays. They were all high quality products and we really appreciated them. To start with the real review, as pointed out by other people, the resort is scattered on a hill from the top down to the sea. With more than 100 cottages and no elevators, this place is off limits for people with limited mobility. Central facilities like the reception, shops, one restaurant, breakfast, etc, are closer to pool and beach than the cottages on top of the hill. From the reception you can call an electric buggy to be brought to your cottage (if uphill) or to the main entrance on the road, but if you want to go to the beach or the pool, you need to use the stairs. The hill is really beautiful, with a sort of rainy forest vegetation, and really well kept. We had on of the cottages far away from the reception (227) and I counted more than 200 steps to go down, but, if you don’t have problem to walk, this is a good way to exercise your body and digest the fantastic thai food. The cottages are very nice with some things that could be improved. Our had two large rooms, the bath and the shower are separated. The first room is where the bed is (plus an additional bed for our daughter), the second has two sinks and wardrobes. The cottage was cleaned daily and staff was visiting it at least twice per day to check if everything was fine. There two things that could be improved. The main door is a sliding one, and there is a lot of space between the door and the wall ( 10 cm or more). In a tropical place like Thailand, with lots of bugs or insects and geckos, that means some of them can enter your room. The Surin has a pest control program ( I think every two weeks) and they also spray the rooms, but we have a quite irrational fear of roaches, and in our stay we found one inside the room. This is not to blame the Resort, but for us It was a problem. We called them, and they came in less than 10 minutes, they were simply great, they came three times in an hour until we could find the bug. When we came back from the beach in the evening we found a bottle of wine with apologies from the Resort for the accident. I understand however, that to avoid this problem a big investment is needed from the Surin, and probably people like us are a minority. The second problem is instead something that should be addressed and with less expenses. The Air conditioning is loud. As you cannot switch it off during the night (in the high season night temperature is over 25 degrees), this can be a problem if you want to have a good sleep. I was a bit concerned to go there with a kid (5 yo) because I thought the resort was more designed for adult people. I was wrong. It is true that there are no real kids activities outside, but they have a complimentary 2 hours child care (from 2 p.m. tp 4 p.m.) every day, and baby sitting service (with a fee) that we did not use it. The beach and the sea were so good that our daughter was never annoyed and she did not want to leave on our last day. I was surprised by the high number of people with kids in this resort and, although it is clearly not a structure designed for kids, I can only recommend it for families The beach is probably the best in the Phucket mainland. Compared to others we have seen, water was cristal clear and the white sand was clean. The beaches are all public in Thailand, but the Suring beach is not so easy to reach from the other two close to it because is naturally protected by rocks in both directions. The Surin beach is shared between the Surin and the Amanpuri resorts (2/3 vs 1/3) so you have a lot of space to relax. Water is also shallow close to the sand, making it ideal for kids. We did not try the internal restaurant or the beach bar, but I can only recommend the Beach restaurant for its atmosphere (even with kids :-)) and the great food. You have of course to love thai food, but I think there are options also for a western meal. We have been twice, and we really enjoyed. There are many other restaurants at walking distance on the main road and they are, in average very good, and cheaper . There also a good lunch option on the beach, there are two food stalls at the left end of the beach. They offer mainly fruits and drinks but also some warm food. The food is delivered directly to the sunbeds or you can eat there. The resorts are aware of this option and they don’t object if you eat on the beach. We always went to a very nice lady (I think Poo is her name) that was super friendly also with our daughter. We chose her also because in the other stall food was delivered by underage people, and that was not an option for us. During our stay we have also experienced a very nice surprise. In the afternoon, on a sporadic frequence, beach bar was offering, free of charge, foods, ice-creams and juices. We found this a brilliant idea from the resort. It was overall a great experience, this is a perfect place to relax and to organize excursion to the islands or the mainland. We did not use it because it was a pity to “waste” a single day on the beach. The resort is certainly not cheap (on the high end for Phucket) but we were really happy to spent our money and time there. I can only recommend it for everybody unless - You have mobility problem - Fun and night life are your priorities A big big thank to all the staff always present but not intrusive as you expect from a 5 star hotel. We’ll certainly visit them again.
"Best hotel of our three week stay."
This hotel is absolutely amazing and the best in our three week stay in Thailand. Upon arrival we were greeted with a drink, cool towel and beautiful flower wristband. Checked in was quick and efficient and we received all the information we needed. We were then taken by golf buggy to our room. The room is stunning. The bed is huge and very very comfortable. There is a his and hers wardrobe, suitcase storage and drawers which was really useful. In the room is after sun, insect repellent, toothpaste and a lovely walk in shower with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. You then walk down through the hotel onto the beach and pool area and the view takes your breath away. The beach is just as you imagine, powder white sand and sea so clear you can see fishes and your reflection. There is a beach hut selling cold drinks and snacks which is separate to the hotel, but pleasing that the hotel support local community to allow them to sell. There is also beach massage, which again is separate to the hotel. I think it is fab thatthe hotel allows these services on the beach. The beach is totally private so only hotel guests can use it. It is protected by rocks either side so if you want to do your daily one hour walk on the beach you have to come out of the hotel onto the main Surin main beach. Pool and beach towels are available around the pool. Sub beds are directly on the beach. The breakfast was amazing. Easily the best selection I have ever had in any hotel ever. It was fresh, coffee and tea refill plentiful and all the staff were very friendly, polite and nothing was too much trouble. I can recommend eggs benedict. We did not eat in the hotel, apart from breakfast, as we prefer to eat in the local vicinity. Come out of the hotel and turn right and there is a huge selection of wonderful restaurants, cafes, massage, laundry and shops to choose from. I left behind an item of clothing by accident and when I realised I emailed the hotel. They quickly responded with a photo of the item, which I confirmed was indeed mine and they very kindly offered to post it to my home. First I can highly recommend this hotel and should we ever return to Thailand which we hope to next year, we will definitely ensure that we will return to the Surin.
"Lovely location with excellant service"
This is a very busy, popular area with The Surin as an oasis. The staff is superior and able to assist with all types of requests and services. Be prepared to walk up and down many stairs no matter where your room is located. This location is hillside down to the white sand beach. Breakfast is included and is extensive. The rooms are gracious with wonderful amenities, including drying racks for bathing suits, private decks for relaxing and most are separate bungelow style rooms.
