Wonderful place!! Cozy and romantic. Initially it was hard to climb the steps to go from the room to other facilities, but soon we got accostumed to it, and everything seemed to be near. The sunset view is amazing!
"A lovely hotel trying hard to impress"
Our overarching memory of this hotel will be the 180 steps up to our Hillside Cottage from the pool. And they are quite steep steps too! Granted, once at the reception (half-way) they will always provide a buggy to the room, but....Would suggest paying extra for room close to beach. Beach is absolutely superb, probably one of the best we have been on and the sunset is definitely worth watching from the beach bar - the only bar in the hotel though. Unlike others, we didn't get upgraded and paid 3,000bahts to keep our room until we were picked up on leaving. My wife and I had travelled prior to arrival so stayed around the hotel for our 8 nights, although this proved costly - we had a coffee mid-morning, a salad at lunch and a shared starter and two main courses at night and spent well over £1,000 in 8 nights. Granted we had a cocktail before dinner and a bottle of wine during dinner, the latter rattling up the cost at £40 a bottle. Breakfast had everything we wanted, but based on experience of other hotels, perhaps not quite as extensive - but enough! Good tip is to use the little 'shops' on the beach who have some charming young girls who fetch and carry drinks all day - and at a fraction of the hotel prices - get a bed on the beach and they come to you - wew moved onto beach for 4pm drinks :) - wine was still £22 a bottle, but great saving on hotel prices - made it seem like a steal for wine you'd pay £6 for at home. The staff are exceptionally friendly and tried very hard to always please. Our Hillside Cottage was really nice, larger than a hotel room, but exceptionally comfortable - once you got there :) They were very clean with pleasing turn down service, clean towels and bedding daily if you wanted it, flip flops provided for the beach together with a good quality beach bag which is a great idea. His and hers sinks, a monsoon shower and separate toilet with candle powered air fresheners were all a delight. We loved the cottage, very different from being in a hotel room! Overall, a good hotel, a little hampered from lack of good restaurant / bar provision that you might expect from such a high starring hotel - and of course, those steps! Almost worth it for the quaint cottages , beach and sunset.
"If there was a 6 stars rating, I'd give it!"
The whole experience with The Surin has been excellent! They were very efficient at the time of my enquiry, helpful with the booking, courteous in assisting with the ground transportation and the stay has not disappointed in any way at all either! The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff kind and always smiling, the resort kept tidy and clean. The hotel is on what I think is one of the very best beaches in the south east Asia, which is only shared with the Guests of the Amanpuri hotel which is at the other end. I am normally one to avoid hotel restaurants as they typically are all the same, however the food at The Surin has been exceptional - Thai is real Thai and Italian is very adequate Italian. For the sake of reviewing properly and really finding small criticism I would say: 1. Maybe not suitable for people that struggle with moving as there are many sets of stairs to go anywhere 2. The hotel would benefit greatly by a serious refit/refresh - nothing wrong with it as it is now as such, but given the high cost of the rates paint patches and silicone faults should be addressed 3. If you enjoy the beach be prepared for a fight - most Guests will put their towels down on the sunbeds and then not turn up until gone 11... I am myself on the beach before 8.30 every day and despite being there with maybe another 5 people I struggle with finding a space. I would suggest the beach guys and management should have a rule that all unused beds are cleared of towels if they remain unoccupied after 10am.... As I said the above are actually very small criticisms which should not be seen as a negative in any way! Despite being lucky enough to stay in great hotels worldwide on a regular basis, this is only the 2nd hotel I can say was absolutely spot on in everything.... so much so that I am already thinking of when I can come back!! HIGHLY recommend it!
"Best resort in the world"
This is our third trip to the Surin and each time it seems to get better than the last. From the warm reception that one receives on arrival to the most congenial staff that attend to every whim and need that a guest could wish for, this resort is without a doubt the best hotel I have ever had the good fortune of holidaying at. It has become our "second home" and the staff have become our "second set of children" they have made us feel so special, and welcome. Special mention must be made of Bee, Nokkie, Chak, Dadda , Kitty and Kwan ,who have been quite outstanding. The accommodation , breakfasts and level of service is nothing short of exemplary and one cannot express sufficiently in words, just how wonderful the whole experience is at the Surin. All things being equal we will most definitely be back again next year , as there is no other place in the world that I would swop the Surin for. A special thanks to all the other members of staff , who have likewise made our holiday so special. I have been unable to mention them in this review ,as there are so many of them. In conclusion I would sum up the resort as being exceptionally luxurious ,but with a completely relaxed and casual atmosphere with no stiffness and formality that is usually associated with a resort of this quality.
"Paradise, idyllic "
From the time you arrive to the time you depart, you are met with warmth and smiles, it's like returning home but better. Please note there are plenty of stairs so not for people who have ambulatory problems. Rooms are roomy ,well furnished with tea/coffee/bottled water; bathrooms all you need. Breakfast is a treat and even though this my third visit still found new things, helpful in making fresh ginger tea and a green smoothie for my husband. Nothing is to much trouble. Took a cooking course, thanks chief Den it was fun, cannot praise all kitchen staff enough. Celebrated my birthday here, thank you for the birthday cake. Gym well equipped with best view ever which makes it a pleasure to use. Pool/beach area what more than its perfect. Beach is a cove, perfect size ,especially to do "beach walk" ,never felt crowded even with the hotel being full. It is to me the most idyllic setting for beach/pool. We stayed for 3 weeks in this paradise, can't wait for next years visit. Plenty of walking distance local restaurants e.g.: Audi, Riverside,The Flavor, Nok's seafood. All casual serving good food both local and European. This hotel works well for couples and also families with very young to older children. Cannot praise this hotel and their fantastic friendly, warm, professional staff. Thanks to all,
