"Old fashioned standards of excellence."
First impressions of a hotel depend heavily on the staff who greet you, check you in, and so on, and here the Westin Chosun excels. Words like efficient, friendly and helpful spring to mind, but I think the most important quality is that the Westin Chosun staff are proud their hotel, and this pushes them to go that extra yard. For example, one of the porters showed me a plaque that commemorated the fact that this was Seoul's very first hotel. Of course it has been rebuilt and renovated since, but that sense of history makes you feel that you are in a special place. (Apparently the hotel was the first in seoul to have an elevator, the first to serve ice cream, and it was actually captured by North Korean troops during the war.) The most recent renovations seem to have been concentrated on shared spaces rather than the rooms themselves, which are immaculately clean and very comfortable but don't quite have that five star wow factor. The lobby is chic and classy, the pool and gym are spectacular, and my husband loved the executive club lounge, which is a calm refuge for the traveller in what can be a hectic city. The lounge also serves a hearty breakfast, afternoon tea, and then tasty hors d'oeuvres and quality wines in the cocktail hour. Finally, the Westin Chosun is in a great location: Close to City Hall Station, the Lotte Department Store, Namdaemun market, and the Myeongdong shopping strip. This hotel has old fashioned standards of excellence, and I recommend it highly.
"Great location & service"
This hotel is within a 2 minutes walk from City Hall, hence an excellent location to explore the city on foot. I have not been in this property for close to 6 years. Restaurants and common areas have been renovated since my last visit. Service is great as expected, staff are efficient and friendly. Breakfast is excellent although the decor of the Aria restaurant is rather 'cold and sterile'. The indoor pool area and gym are in excellent condition and beautiful. Our room hasn't changed much since my last visit. Everything was in good condition and working order. The building is very well insulated, you can't hear anything and the black out curtains are very efficient, so set your alarm if you need to get up in time! The executive lounge offers a very good selection of drinks and food, from afternoon snacks to cocktails at night. We didn't try breakfast in the lounge. I recommend this hotel to any tourist or business traveller who wants a central location. as well to business
"Not too bad"
I rushed into Seoul for a two-day business trip so stayed there for one night. Overall it is not too bad. Although it was a old hotel , it is cenrtainly well mantianned. The bed was quite comfortable which gave me a nice sleep. However I found oput the wifi was not stable and always on and off. Over it was not too bad and will come back again.
"Excellent all around "
Fabulous location in downtown near Lotte shopping center, easy access to major site seeing, tons of restaurants near by and short walk to Starbucks (a must for me). Also convenient transportation access. Excellent English speaking staff and friendly service. Rooms are modern with a Korean flare. I would visit here again.
"Reliable also in Korea"
I stayed in Westin hotels too long and often early in my career. But this one really nicely adapts to the local style. I got upgraded to a junior suite which was generously spacious. Room and all facilities well maintained, staff was very courteous and friendly. Recommended if you don't like experiments.
