"Small room but amazing view!"
We got a very small room with a huge terrace (we couldn't use it much though, deep winter and very cold outside!). The view on Santa Maria della Salute and Canal Grande was truly fantastic. The service, although not exceptional, is ok with friendly people around, just a bit hectic in the breakfast room. The Hotel is very central (few steps from San Marco), the restaurant has a wonderful view to Canal Grande. Rather noisy. Very expensive.
"Fantastic Venice Escape"
Our first time in Venice, and stayed at the Westin for 2 nights before embarking on a Mediterranean cruise. Obviously very close to St Mark's Square, so easy to get to/from the major tourist attractions. The room we had didn't have much of a view, but was very clean and larger than we were expecting. The public areas are simply beautiful, and staff very friendly, especially the front desk girls. The hotel is tucked away from the major alleys, and a little tricky to find if arriving by land, but easy by water taxi. The service was great! We arrived around noon, but our room was not ready. While we waited for our room, the hotel offered us a complimentary water taxi ride over to Murano and back, with a complimentary tour of a glass blowing studio. We ate breakfast both mornings at the hotel restaurant, which has a patio overlooking the Grand Canal with phenomenal views. The world just seems to slow down around you. The breakfast buffet was also fantastic. We were fortunate that coincidentally the second night we were there, it was the Festa del Redentore, which has a huge fireworks presentation over the water in front of the Hotel & St Mark's Square. If you're able to be there that night, it's a special experience! If ever in Venice again, we'll definitely stay again at the Westin!
I was here for a business trip. The best is the bar and the great bartender they have. It was really the best moment of the experience spending an evening there. Rooms are comfortable but nothing special. Anyway location is brilliant and view from the room breathtaking. Food very good.
"Tired and poorly maintained"
First the positive - this hotel is in a great location with beautiful public areas. The views over the canal are wonderful. But the rooms we had left a lot to be desired. To get to our rooms we had to walk a long way - including up then down stairs in a narrow corridor. We had to walk past a heater that had leaked badly all over the carpet so there was a very large stain in the corridor. Not nice. Our rooms were very large but in need of a refit. Mine had a view of the other side of the hotel. The second room had a very small balcony with several cigarette butts left on it. Again, no view. My daughter was not feeling well so we headed back out of the very cold outdoors thinking we could spend an hour having afternoon tea enjoying the views. At 2.30pm we were told that the kitchen was closed and that there was no possibility of getting afternoon tea. We were told we could order something from our room - having paid for a hotel that has a view over the canal why would we want to sit in our dingy room with no view' I have not heard of a supposedly 5 star hotel not having the ability to serve food to guests mid afternoon. So we were directed to the bar and could order cold drinks. Not what we had in mind at all. The public areas also smelled of sewerage - and we were there in winter. It looks clear that they have several classes of room - make sure you do not get the room class we were in. Very over priced for what it was.
"Traditional palazzo with stunning grand canal views"
This is a legendary hotel on the Grand Canal but in need of a service boost. I was shown to a supposedly de luxe room which faced a wall and consequently no daylight came into my room. Paid (a lot) to be moved to a room with a view - and what a view - the Salute across the canal and a view out into the lagoon from a third window. Nothing quite compares to a sunrise with gondoliers outside your window! Service here is a bit hit and miss but the location is second to none.
