"Never left a poor review before"
Let me start by saying the hotel is beautiful and clean. It is hard to locate and for any new travellers it is behind the store Farragamo. On arrival the revolving door is hard to navigate with suitcases and no doorman present which I would expect in a five star hotel. Our room was lovely large spacious and clean with partial view of the canal. While getting ready to go out for dinner and in a state of undress our door opened and two guests together with their luggage entered our room!!!!! We were all deeply embarassed. This kind of mistake is really unforgivable in a hotel of this quality. As compensation we were sent a bottle of wine and some chocolates. I really felt a room upgrade would be the least they could offer. The hotel has a fabulous terrace overlooking the canal. The service here is dreadful. An average of 30 mins to get anyone to take an order. Guests were coming to the terrace sitting and waiting and then leaving in disgust. While my husband was on business I sat outside and and saw 7 couples come and go without being offered a drink. I ordered lunch which was lovely and enjoyed sitting outside eating. The following day with my husband we were told that eating outside was not permiited and we would have to eat inside - it was a lovely day the terrace was nearly empty as was the restaurant which was 10 yards from the terrace'''''' We duly moved to the restaurant to eat our sandwiches only to witness the manager placing a large wine bucket in front of the door to the terrace - a fire door - to prevent anyone using that door to re enter the hotel or get to the toilets as it would have been a shorter route than using the other available doors. As other reviewers have mentioned the general level of customer service is very poor and less than friendly. Anyone travelling with children please note the tv only has two channels in english, both news channels.
"Great location. Not bad for Venice. "
Next to St Marks square. Near tons of shopping and restaurants. Great service. Was there with a group. Food and beverage service was good. Rooms are old but large. Only complaint was that there were ants in our room. Others in our group experienced same thing. I hear it's a problem all over Venice.
"Get the deluxe suite if you can"
Location: Great location, next to St Mark's square. Not that easy to find initially but hotel website has clear directions which helped (also use Google Maps as backup). Service: Not so great, certainly not of a 5 star hotel, however I think this is more of a cultural thing (service has been poor in Venice overall). We checked in close to 3pm but were told to wait as room not ready. We had lunch and came back, but room still not read, told to return in 15 mins. Came back and room still not ready! By then we were livid. Offered a 'better' room but in the same category. Quite concerning that you can get different quality rooms of the same category. Anyway they did apologise and send us a bottle of bubbly for the inconvenience. Would have appreciated an upgrade instead. Because of this bad experience, we did not tip anyone in this hotel the whole stay and chose not to eat/drink in this hotel. As far as I am concerned, this is not 5 star service. Room: We booked a courtyard view deluxe suite. The room is very spacious and comfortable. Really comfy bed too. If i were to return here I would choose this room again. The spacious, separate sitting room made up for the fact there is no spa or pool in this room - relaxation space is much needed after a whole day of walking around in the city. We faced a courtyard which is of better value than the canal room (as the rooms facing the canal are not as good). It is quiet and sometimes you can hear the gondola people singing in operatic voice which is quite amusing. Wifi reception was very strong, included in the price of the room and very fast (was able to watch Youtube videos with no problem). Turn down service was disappointing, water bottles not replenished unlike most other 5 star hotels I've stayed in. Breakfast: Just ok, not brilliant. The hot food selection in particular was poor. I have noticed a few demanding American clients asking for fried eggs but I'm not sure if is extra or included in the breakfast (no egg station). However the view is fabulous and quite relaxing to have breakfast overlooking the canal. Concierge: Overall very helpful esp when it comes to printing our boarding passes and arranging taxi back to the airport. Overall this is an ok hotel. Not 5 star, more like 4 star. Venice is expensive everywhere so the rooms will be expensive. Courtyard view is not at all bad, not sure I would pay extra for canal view but defo splurge to get a deluxe suit if you are here for a special occasion. Also there are a lot of loud Americans here, it is after all an American hotel, but depends on whether this is bothersome to you or not.
"Worst nights during my vaccation"
Advertised on the Grand Canal I opted for 5 stars to end my vacation in beautiful Venice. The Hotel is hidden within tiny streets and required a guide to find it. Only a few rooms actually have a canal view and 95% are located in another building, and instead of the Grand Canal we had to stare at the roof of a building. The lobby shines with Italian Marble but once past this the corridors carpets are as dirty as the streets outside. The walls are all scratched. The automatic dimming system in the room failed and we could not get the lights turned off until a electrician was called, and finally got the lights off around midnight. I wanted to change Hotels the next day, but the Hotel charged me the total amount for three nights upon check in and would not refund me. We had to stay the nights in a room with no view and no lights. So this occupancy spoilt the climax of my vacation for me. Try to avoid!
"Nice Hotel in Good Location"
We stayed here as a family of four and had two rooms next to each other. One of the rooms had a smelly bathroom that couldn't be cleared which was a little off-putting. The same room had a broken aircon control so not a good start! The staff were friendly enough, particularly the restaurant in the morning. The location is well suited for seeing the city and has lovely view of the canal from the restaurant. Bar prices a little steep even for Venice which is fairly expensive anyway. In general both rooms were of a good size and very comfortable. To sum up it is a nice hotel and added to what was a great three day break.
