"Beware of hidden fees!"
Beware!!! I prepaid my stay at the hotel through Hotwire and was surprised to find a extra charge of $66 on my credit card. After going through endless phone prompts and waiting on hold I finally got a hold of a human who informed me that the charge was for hotel facility fees - specifically internet, shuttle bus, exercise facility, and a bottle of water, none of which I used. These exorbitant hidden fees are the work of unscrupulous thieves.
"Great hotel -Beautiful! Staff are Amazing! Food was great! Parking great!"
The people that I encountered the most were Alex, Fred, Oscar that were extremely helpful overall. From arriving and doing the valet option, Fred greeted us very nicely. He provided great customer-service, and I was impressed that he pulled out a map and made several suggestions on what to do in the area and circled it on the map. This was a nice first impression of the hotel. The hotel itself is really nice. Alex checked us in and gave us a nice room, and provided a smooth check-in, nice welcome. Oscar was very nice and very professional. There are a couple other people who helped us out and provided great service but these are the names that I remembered. The room was really nice. Well presented and modern. The details of the room were great. Please recgonize the Housekeeper that cleaned room 818 before our arrival (our arrival was on 3-12-17). Amazing details of cleanliness and the maintenance of the room was perfect. There is no Pay-perview ordering option, but you can connect your laptop or devices to HDMI port, which is great. TV was a nice setup, not many channels for the TV service in the room itself, but that is the same at most hotels. Small billing issue which I called and spoke to Katarina (in the evening) and she handled it smoothly and corrected the issue. She was very nice and quick to handle the issue. I appreciate that she apologized for this occurring after she fixed it, rather than just saying it's all taken care of, like some other places or stores would have done. The room service we ordered on 3-14-17 was AWESOME. At first I called down and was going to pick it up. I later called back and asked them to send it up. The guy who helped me on the phone (he was working at the desk) and he initially took my order, then helped transition the order upstairs (since F&B was busy), he provided great service. He didn't make me feel bad for changing things up on them (telling them I'd pick it up, then 15 minutes asking for it to be sent up). I appreciate that. Hospitality at it's finest. The food was amazing. I ordered a Risotto dish with Sea Bass, Wild Mushroom, and a side of Asparagus and Broccolini. My girlfriend and I shared this and it was plenty for both of us. The food tasted like it would've been in a 4 or 5 star restaurant. This was our first trip to San Diego and the staff did a great job in making us feel welcome and offering the best ideas of things to do in San Diego. As a customer-service manager (by trade), I take my hat off to this hotel. The GM should be proud of the hotel he is running, as the hotel is operating very well, the staff are amazing, the facilities are clean. I was impressed with the setup of the fitness center locker rooms, with laying a towel on the shower door, and providing amenities in the locker room such as shaving cream, individual soaps/shampoos. My girlfriend had an amazing time and we really appreciate the great experience we had overall. The little things make a big difference, such as when we picked up our car, the valet attendant offering us a water each time we went down there, and letting us know the amount of time it would take to bring up the car. It was always five minutes or less, no matter what time it was throughout my stay. The hotel and lobby itself is absolutely beautiful, tons and tons of seating and tables. I would HIGHLY recommend this property to friends and family. I usually like to stay at new hotels when visiting the same city once again (just to try new stuff out) but this is a situation where I will for sure come back to this hotel. The Westin beds are amazing...our king bed was so comfortable! We had a luxurious time! Thanks for the great experience (this stay was during my birthday), keep up the passionate work. It is not easy to please customers, and exceed expectations, but this hotel is doing it flawlessly.
"Great service! "
Jeff, Sam, and Uriel were a great help in the bar and restaurant area. They gave impeccable service and helped me narrow down food and drink choices. They also helped with giving me places to visit in the Gaslamp District.
"Good quality hotel"
This is a decent hotel in central SD, very good location, rooms were very comfortable and the staff were very professional which is a unique feature in American hotels, hotel beds were of good quality and the HD cable channels were appreciated, the pool and Jacuzzi were good ( it was unseasonably warm in SD in March 2017 so may be too cold if normal temps), internet was fast and free. One negative, US$48+tax for valet parking is completely disgraceful, park off-site, we paid $30 per 24hr at Park it on Market, about a 5min walk but save a lot of money!
Daisy contacted us regarding our upcoming visit, to welcome us for our upcoming visit and to enquire if we needed any assistance. My husband indicated that it was my 65th birthday and would Daisy be able to suggest some restaurants in the area to celebrate. Her team member Sergio Pietrangeli at the concierge desk promptly contacted us with some suggestions. You can imagine the delight on my face when a delicious piece of chocolate ganache cake and a Perrier arrived to our room but what was very special is the hand written note wishing me a wonderful birthday. Seriously to take the time to write such a lovely note in this age of emails and texts is truly special! Thanks Daisy. Right from the arrival and the bellman's welcome to our departure, everyone was so welcoming and truly understand the concept of customer service. And of course how can we forget the sleep on a heavenly bed. What's great to celebrate 65 years at this beautiful property with such a wonderful Westin family Thanks Daisy to you and your team.
