Just beautiful and so central located close to Christmas markets and shopping. Rooms are beautiful as well as comfortable. So much history is in this hotel. ask someone to tell you about the ceiling above the staircase. .
"A Great Retreat in the Heart of Berlin"
Landed in Berlin on St.Stephen's day (Boxing Day) with lost luggage and on 25 hours of no sleep. Upon arrival the staff were great, upgraded our room as part of our Gold SPG membership and offered us a drink. When we go upstairs my partner realized that he had given the airlines my bag ticket information, so they were looking for the wrong bag. He went down to the concierge almost in tears and explained the situation. They were able to contact the airline, sort out the baggage tag error and when his bag arrived the next day had it ready for us at the front desk. Great service! We had breakfast included in our stay and it was a great choice. The buffet is GREAT so many options to eat and the dining room as well as table service were impeccable. Definitely the right way of starting off your day. We had an upper floor room that was accessed via a separate stair. While lugging our luggage was a bit annoying the room was immense with a fabulous bathroom that allowed us to sprawl. LOVE the Westin beds and the toiletries (great moisturizer). We ate some food at the hotel lobby bar and also enjoyed a drink. The food was well prepared and presented, but my clubhouse sandwich had a very european twist that I wasn't expecting (they love their mayo based garnishes in Berlin). While it wasn't a bad sandwich I would recommend they focus on preparing American dishes in as traditional a way as possible. People are staying at the Westin because its familiar and a taste of home while abroad. My take is that I'll go out in Berlin if I want real German food. The Hotel is centrally located in the downtown and close to transit so you can get anywhere very quickly. Most definitely looking forward to our next stay.
"Very Large & Somewhat Dark Hotel in Great Location"
My family and I got two rooms for several days here on points, and based on location would stay here again. The upsides were several. The location is killer, being 5-15 minutes walking distance to just about every single tourist location we wanted to get to, plus nearby metro stops. BTW, East Berlin is where it’s happening these days, making West Berlin look positively drab in comparison. One of our rooms was upgraded to the newer section of the hotel (while the other was in the older part). The newer room was quite modern (our preferred style), very spacious, and faced Unter den Linden. The Germans (unlike Brits) seal their windows so we had very little noise. The front staff were helpful and friendly. There is an outside café to complement the inside one, so in nice weather you can sit outside and enjoy watching the world go by. The downsides were several as well. The hotel overall is surprisingly on the dark side, despite the more modern rooms in the renovated section. The elevators were not working correctly, so we had to use byzantine stairwells to get to and from the room. Indeed, there were not enough elevators for the hotel’s size, so when a lot of people were checked in the staff recommended using the stairs. The hotel is conference center huge, so we always had nearly a 7-10 minute walk from the front door to our room, making it punitive if you forgot something and had to go back. The older room was dark and tiny, being paneled in dark woods (it was kind of clubby nice, tho). Both my nearly adult kids found it tough to move around in the room. All that said, even my kids agreed that based on location they’d stay here again (and try to steal the modern room from us).
"Good location, but dated hotel!"
I think the reason for choosing this hotel that stands out the most, is its location! You cannot beat, being so centrally located in central Berlin. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, however the rooms are very old and dated. I don’t think the lime scale has been removed for quite some time in the bathroom, nor has the carpet been cleaned for a while. I did not have breakfast, so I cannot comment on that. It doesn’t deserve the 5 stars and I will not stay again.
Stayed for three nights at The Westin, and what a great experience!! Starting with it's great location, the hotel it's right on the corner of frederich street, few steps from the lafayet gallery, and walking distance to any main attraction you might want to visit, also there is a U line station a cross the street from the hotel, so I would say the location it's unbeatable ! The hotel it's a very traditional European hotel, with a specious lobby and a big staircase going to the first floor, the staff it's friendly and helpful. The room we stayed was #705, and was so perfect, spacious, a king size bed and a breath taking view, great shower with a tub and very nice amenities made the experience more enjoyable. The room had also a nespresso machine with 3 capsules. Breakfast it's served in the first floor and starts at 6:30am, and it's AMAZING, huge buffet with everything you might want to have for breakfast, fruits, cheeses, breads, pastries and so much more, one of the best breakfast I have ever seen in a hotel.
