Stayed in Jersey City for our NYC trip because we were driving and didn't want to pay for parking in the city. Chose the Westin based on location, trip advisor ranking, and price. The front desk staff was great and accommodated my request to be on a higher floor. We stayed on the 17th floor with a great view of lower Manhattan. It was my daughters 1st trip to NYC so this was perfect. The housekeeping needs some work. There were hairs attached to the shower curtain for our entire stay. They did not restock the coffee completely either day, and my request for additional conditioner resulted in LESS conditioner, as they disposed of my half used one and only replaced it with one. The Christmas decorations in the lobby were nice and the hotel is conveniently located near a PATH station. Pillows could use some work. Very soft and lumpy. Fire & Oak was great, highly recommend going there if you don't want to leave the hotel for dinner one night. Overall I would stay again, but housekeeping needs to step it up.
"Functional but uninteresting"
We had a conference at this Westin and it has large facilities for a conference of 300+ people. Very functional and service works, no glitches. But is a conference type hotel, don't expect anything beyond that. Situated just adjacent to a shopping mall, so convenient if you want to do a bit of shopping. Cheaper than Manhattan, 30 mins from Newark Airport and 30 minutes to Soho (Holland Tunnel can be tricky).
"Get away from the madness of Manhattan"
Probably a bit further than most hotels you'd like to stay in, unless you want to get away from the hustle and bustle. If you're staying here for business you're likely working for an airline or in finance. Rooms are updated but lower levels have no view whatsoever. Clean and modern. Washrooms considerably small.
"In need of customer focus"
First the not so good. Regretfully, our Westin heavenly bed had died some time ago (compared to the bed in the connecting room). The cleanliness of the rooms could be improved, there are small signs that housekeeping is rushed (e.g., a hair in the tub, dust on the television, a sticky remote control). The air con system is not usable due to the noise it generates. The mini bar is empty, instead one is asked to use room service. But room service is expensive – add service charge, tax and a delivery flat fee to the inflated price of your drink. Staff are not very guest oriented, and have difficulties answering basic questions, including on breakfast times. The pool area is ok, but there is too much chlorine in the water. This is completely unnecessary and points at lack of expertise and laziness. Finally, new towels, both in the rooms and in the pool area, were not always clean. On the bright side, the rooms are more spacious than in Manhattan, and the hotel is next to the path station. Penn station and the WTC are only a 20 minute ride away. The views are also good (WTC), and parking is cheap (again compared to Manhattan). The Concierge is very friendly and knowledgeable. The hotel has connecting rooms for families. There is also a large mall next to the hotel. Overall; however, I would probably not stay at this Westin again. There are too many issues with the hotel, which is too bad because I believe that most of these issues are just a matter of managerial focus and staff training and could be resolved easily. But why take a risk as a customer if there are several other hotels in the area'
"Thanksgiving visit & 1st grandchild "
The Westin is a beautiful hotel with a great workout facility. Walk to Newport mall, many restaurants. Across street from marina with a view of Freedom tower. Convenient to Path train and ferry. Valet parking and nice restaurant on lobby level.
