"Wonderful February Stay!"
My wife and I visited in early February and have already begun planning for a trip back. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed. The grounds and pools were clean and well-kept. The location was good, with several excellent restaurants nearby. The hotel certainly fostered a relaxed, move-at-your-own-pace kind of feel, especially when compared to some of the all-inclusives we have stayed at. That alone is enough to keep us happy. However, the most impressive aspect of the hotel was the people and service. The staff were incredibly friendly and always had a smile on their faces. The staff seemed eager to please and genuinely happy to be there. Jorge and Joaquin at the Duna pool bar were beyond incredible. They greeted my wife and I by name, with huge smiles, every afternoon. No matter how busy they were, it seemed like they always had time to engage us in conversation and keep our glasses full. They made us feel like VIP's and contributed to a wonderful trip. Thank you so very much, Jorge and Joaquin.
"Home away from Home!"
Love, love, love Lagunamar. It's our home when we are in Cancun. It's well run, beautiful and we get a big apartment so we can cook when we don't want to go out! 2 enormous pools, the beautiful beach, a spa, Ocean view rooms with Westin amenities. 4-5 restaurants under chef Silverios watch! And the location is perfect! Right across from La Isla mall. We come here 3x a year because we miss the place too much...
"Amazing time at the Westin Lagunamar"
My family and I just got back from our stay at the Westin Lagunamar with our two children (ages 15 and 13) for 5 nights. The hotel is unbelievable and extremely clean everywhere! it is in a great location in the hotel zone. There are restaurants nearby and a shopping mall across the street which we spent time in. Rooms: We stayed in a 1 Bedroom with a sleeper sofa. The room was large and had plenty of space. The bathroom is huge and the bed was simply heavenly. It was a king size which we don't ever see in a typical hotel room so that was a nice feature. The room had a balcony and a great view of the pool and ocean. I believe all of the rooms have nice views - some ocean front and some with pool views and partial ocean views. The mattress on the sleeper sofa, unfortunately wasn't very comfortable so my kids had to maneuver their sleeping arrangements. The room had a nice sized kitchen and dining table. We went to a local market and purchased drinks and breakfast foods for convenience. Housekeeping cleaned the rooms each day. Pool/Beach: There are two pools. The main pool is enormous and has an infinity style area overlooking the beach and ocean which was amazing to be in. There is also a slide for children. The smaller pool (which really isn't that small) is a very short walk (really close) and a bit quieter, as the activities are typically based around the main pool. We had no problems getting chairs although I would suggest going out early to get them. Be careful if you want to reserve them and go back inside. They put tags on the chairs that are left and you only have 45 minutes before they will give them away. Both pools have swim up bars and food/drink service for you so you don't need to get up for anything. The beach is also beautiful and has chairs/umbrellas as well. Oh, and did I mention that the spa employees also come around offering you 5-minute complimentary massages at the pool' I know they are hoping that you will purchase a spa service (which we did), but no real pressure so a very nice perk to enjoy while relaxing at the pool. Service: What can I say' The service at the Westin is just amazing. There is always someone nearby to get you what you need. I love how the Westin employees have their individual passion listed on their name tags. It really makes it a more personal experience. Check-in was easy. Charlene was our concierge and she was extremely helpful booking a tour, spa and dinner appointments. We are SPG members so we also received discounts on some services. We did receive an additional discount to sit through the 90-minute timeshare presentation and they did a great job, but it isn't for us. No real pressure once it was completed however, which is very much appreciated. Spa/Gym: My daughter and I both had massages and facials which was totally relaxing. We also used the gym. There are two gyms - a small one near the smaller pool and a main gym off the main building. I found the gym had plenty of equipment and televisions on each piece of cardio equipment. Food: We ate at the pool each day for lunch and the sports bar for dinner one night - great food!! There is also a market in the hotel to get coffee/snacks, etc. On a side note, we used the hotel shuttle that they provided and it was very easy to use. I will say that we had a scary moment when I left a bag in the airport in Cancun without my name on it and had a difficult time trying to get help but the individual who worked at the transportation company for the hotel was THE BEST and he helped me navigate through the airline personnel and airport security. Thanks to him I was able to locate my bag. Overall amazing stay and we will be back for sure!!!
"Stay if you can"
The staff was great and the rooms and views were beautiful. The restaurants were good as well, one of the restaurants on the property has theme nights and it's super cool. They also have yoga in the mornings and the spa is nice as well.
"Two Star Rooms at a 'Five Star' Resort "
As a loyal Platinum (Lifetime Gold) SPG member, I almost always stay at Starwood resorts when traveling for business and pleasure. I was looking forward to a Category 6 (of 7) rating at the Cancun Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resor. Upon arrival, I was pleased with the welcoming lobby and the fresh Westin scent that adorns all the brand's properties. Unfortunately, that's pretty much were all positive feelings stopped. My loft 'villa' that I reserved was nothing more than a typical high-school spring breakers room - adorning a queen bed (yes QUEEN) for my husband and me and numerous shiny sticky unknown spots all over the dingy tiled floor. The thought of walking around barefoot appalled me, so I wore sandals-even in the shower, which had mold along the plastic floor trap for water. Since we arrived late at night and had an early wake-up call, we reluctantly got ready for bed sure that we would be moved to a more suiting room the next morning- at least a clean 'villa' with a King bed. After a miserable nights sleep (two tall people in a Queen bed) and being woken up before the 7am alarm from neighboring doors slamming in the echoing hallway, I went to the front desk to speak to them about our room. The Elite concierge desk directed me to Mauricio (front desk manager) and I politely expressed my discomfort in the queen bed and concern for the filthy condition of my room. He immediately said 'Sorry we have no availability for a King bed'. And never addressed my complaint about how dirty our room was. I even asked if there were any newer or renovated rooms in the resort and he said they are all the same. Knowing that we were checking out the next morning and only having to suffer for one additional night, I walked away in complete disgust. And, yes, I mentioned I was SPG Platinum which had zero impact. That afternoon I went to the beach, which was clean and beautiful and the ONLY reason I give this resort a 3 rating! There is no towel service (get your own and find a chair) and not one time in 2.5 hours did I see a waiter to order food or drinks. It is definitely NOT the experience one would expect from a 'top' rated resort in Cancun, Mexico. The maintenance staff and housekeeping throughout the property was very friendly an always said 'hola' or some welcoming greeting when you walked by. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with our experience and I would not return to this property. If you are looking for a real resort with nice clean rooms, great food, relaxing beach cabanas and pool-side service and exceptional staff- The JW Marriott, a few km away, is hands-down the classiest, cleanest and best choice within the Starwood and Marriott family in Cancun.
