We are owners here at the Lagunamar. We just come back from another great week. The resort has such a great location, beautiful beach and wonderful pools. We really enjoy the kitchens and washers and dryers in the unit. The staff is fantastic; Delphina was again our personal concierge and is so helpful. The happy hour changed from being 2 for 1 drinks to half price, which I think was a good move. Jorge at the Duna swim up bar was a great bar tender. A couple of things I noticed from last years stay. First is the tech in the rooms. There are dedicated charging stations - standard and tablet - near the bed. At the TV, which are now 55"' there are a couple USB ports, and HDMI jack, and what looks like a couple of charging jacks as well. Not that I know what to do with these but I'm sure somebody can make use of it. The other nice addition is that the main gate house has towels and bottles of water to offer after our morning walk. Very nice touch. Only negative: We rarely eat at the 3 restaurants on the resort because the service is sooo bad. Food is good, though. We ate a lunch at Viento and the service was just terrible. There are plenty of food options across the street at the shopping mall, so if you don't feel like cooking or grilling close options are available.
Our family stayed for a week and we have absolutely no complaints. Incredible staff, perfect location, beautiful view, lovely pool area, and modern, well-appointed rooms. The market on site is reasonably priced, as are the restaurants and stores across the street at La Isla. Due to the central location, we were able to get anywhere in the hotel zone is 10 minutes at the most by using the buses. Can't wait to make a return trip to the Westin Lagunamar!
Prime location great rooms and the staff is professional and attentive....we did have to wait poolside for drinks on occasion but with it being spring break its understandable. The on-site restaurants have great offerings. The concierge staff is very willing to help with reservations. All the the local restaurants are a 130 peso ride away $8 . We will most definitely be back!
"Just wanted to RELAX"
So my wife and I spent 5 days at the Lagunamar and had a wonderful and relaxing experience. We went there to take our minds off of the everyday hustle and bustle and to just RELAX. Mission accomplished. The view from the room was stunning and balcony was a good size. The wait staff around the pool and the restaurant were very enjoyable. I would recommend you ask for Raul at Oceano and Marco around the pool. The food was good and severed promptly. One issues was our room wasn't cleaned one day, (Unsure why). We definitely enjoyed ourselves and are planning on returning.
"Everything great except the food"
We spent a week in a ocean view room (building 900). The view, concierge, staff, maid service, pool, room - all great. The ocean was too rough for swimming (red flag) half the days but walking on the beach was a pleasure. The one thing that I cannot recommend, is the quality of the food. Duna Sports bar is terrible. Every dish we ordered (salad, calamari, fries, pasta, burger) was poor. After that meal, we went to the grocery store in Kulkulkan Plaza (1/4 mile walk) and bought eggs, deli meat, bread, juice, etc. and had breakfast in the room. But as we were on vacation after all, so we tried "Asian night" at Oceano, and once again, it was a mistake. The sushi was 90% rice (which was terribly prepared without vinegar). The pad Thai was made with instant ramen noodles, all other dishes were unidentifiable as to which part of Asia it came from. The only decent item was the fried rice made on a flat top - nothing to rave about, just edible. I walked away determined to never eat at the resort again. Luckily, across the street is the La Isla shopping center that had other options. Here are the restaurants we tried: Taco Grill - 4/5, Pizzeria -2/5, Johnny Rockets -3/5, Elephanta (Indian)- 4/5, Thai place - 3/5.
