"The Westin Leipzig Hotel: A Luxury Hotel Close to Major Attractions and Leipzig Central Train Station (Leipzig Hauptbahn"
The Westin Leipzig Hotel (formerly InternContinental Hotel) is a luxury class hotel conveniently located near Leipzig's major attractions and Leipzig Hauptbahnhof. This large hotel has impressive modern facilities and amenities. The hotel has nice indoor heated swimming pool and gym facilities. The hotel offers free wifi, paid parking, and child care service. Staff members at Front Desk, Concierge Desk, House Keeping, Door Greeting, and Restaurants provided us with professional and efficient service. Our Executive Club Room was very spacious and impressive with elegant modern amenities. The climate controlled room had a great view of the city, and the comfortable bedding ensured high quality sleep. This hotel is especially convenient for train travelers, because it can be easily reached from Leipzig Central Train Station (Leipzig Hauptbahnhof) by several minute walk through a short-cut path. The train station is like a huge multi-story shopping mall with many restaurants, shops, and supermarket. From Westin Leipzig Hotel, guests can walk to the city's major attractions, including St. Thomas Church where Johann Sebastian Bach had worked, Bach House/Museum, Auerbach Keller in Madlerpassage where Goethe's Faust met Mephisto, Leipzig Operahaus where Gustav Mahler conducted, Gewandthaus Concert Hall where Felix Mendelssohn conducted Gewandhaus Orchestra. Mendelssohn House/Museum, Schumann House/Museum, and Grieg House are not far from Gewandhaus Concert Hall. Grimmaische Strasse connecting St. Thomas Church and Gewandhaus Concert Hall is real pleasure to walk along. As for walking to the hotel from Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, my attached direction files in jpg format will show 2 ways. One way is suggested by Google Map (dotted path), and the other way is my shortcut path (red arrow marks) which I have used often. To use my shortcut path, walk out of the train station through the side exit/entrance (right side exit as you get out of the train platform). --> Cross the narrow street with Best Western Hotel --> Turn right, and walk to the street corner, and make left turn. Upon reaching the busy road (6 lane major road with grassy median), look around to find the easiest way to cross to the grassy median and the other side of the road where Westin Leipzig Hotel is located (See my directions in jpg format). The Westin Leipzig Hotel is a well positioned modern luxury hotel.
"Contemporary rooms with super views"
We inadvertently visited Leipzig during the Wave-Gotik-Treffen Goth Festival, and the hotel was filled with dramatic costumed revelers. It actually made our stay more interesting but may have contributed to a service issue, which was ultimately rectified by the hotel. The issue was our guaranteed late check out, which is a Starwood benefit for SPG elites. With the exception of designated resorts and conference centers, hotel are supposed to guarantee a 4 pm check-out. We had requested a 2 pm check out and initially the hotel denied our request. After some gentle nudging by SPG, the hotel acquiesced, and everything else on our stay was very satisfactory. We really liked our very modern room on a top floor with wonderful views of the city and the zoo. We absolutely loved the hotel restaurant Falco (which we had booked months in advance- it is worth it) The hotel has a great location and probably focuses on serving business travelers. I think had we visited during a different time when the hotel wasn't hosting a Goth convention, it would have been a little more sedate. (The guests were actually very mellow- it was just a little disconcerting for most guests to be in costume- even at breakfast) We were impressed enough by the hotel that we recommended it and would choose to stay there again.
"Wifi is very bad!!"
Wifi is at this hotel very slow!! Other wise a nice big hotel with god service and clean rooms. Pool area is very nice. Notice that one entrance the pool is €5. I would go back if they fix the wifi!!!
"WOW - Extraordinary"
Fabulous place. Old but evidently fully refurbished. Modern & clean rooms. Clean. Stunning view. Very friendly and observant staff. Impressive breakfast. And a 2* Star Michelin Restaurant on roof top. Good room rates (try rate for AAA Members) and within 5 Minutes from station and city. Certainly one of the best SPG places I have been to.
"Management Lacking, rooms unbearable, no Concierge and nobody wants to eat together with strangers"
Our arrival at the hotel got off to a good start as our check in was pleasant. The hotel has been recently renovated. The hotels main bar was closed and we could not eat at the hotel even after making every effort to book months in advance. Public get preference over guests. We were offered a table to sit with strangers together which is an odd way to run a hotel restaurant. I agree with the other reviewers the rooms feel hot equivalent to a Finnish 100C sauna. This could be a health hazard and yes you can kip the window but it does not make much of a difference. The bathrooms were basic and the pillows are made of foam lumps which you can't really sleep on. There were 4 staff at the lobby bar who left customers for ages before coming to take their order as they were too busy gossiping. The doorman is weak when we asked for our small suitcases he started serving other customers before us and it turns out that customer was actually a staff member storing his bag in the customer area. Rather than focusing on picking up leaves at the doorway with his bare hands he should focus on more important tasks at hand. This hotel badly needs an active manager in especially in the lobby and I can only suggest to put a stop to the Exit type interview on departure. We did not get asked about our stay but we counted there were circa 11 questions and we had paid in advance. We just needed to hand back our key and get our bag and walk out the door. The hotel really needs to work on the fact that there is no mini bar in the hotel and an unstaffed locked cabinet at the entrance area has drinks and condiments. First of all it looks bad at the door and second of all you as the customer are expected to come down get your own drinks and then drag them up in the list to the 20 something floor.
