"Wonderful place to relax and snorkel"
What a magnificent property. The staff were so helpful and friendly and they just make the place. The Manager held a cocktail party one night and even though we have no kids we watched the kids interacting with the staff and it was clear they were having a great time at the kids center. They have all types of free water sports and if you ask they will take you to the marine sanctuary for a few extra $$$$. The club lounge was just fantastic. A full custom breakfast, awesome sandwiches and tea as well as traditional fare at tea time and a very long cocktail hour. Our junior suite was luxurious and our lanai was great for late day lounging.
"Sad to leave"
We stayed for our honeymoon and as soon as we arrived were looked after. We arrived at 12 and even though our room wasn't ready we were taken to a shower area to freshen up and then on to lunch at the beach grill which was excellent. After lunch we were taken to our delux beach view room which was amazing right on the beach. We were all inclusive and if you eat in the restaurants you will have to pay more, so if on a budget would recommend sticking to the buffet. However, all the meals we had at the beach grill were delicious. The lobster night although expensive we will always remember. We also were offered fish that was caught that day and a seafood platter for lunch which were off menu and really glad we had it. Benjo ensured it was in the all inclusive package. We are spoilt where we live for restaurants like kangol so in my opinion the menu wasn't varied enough for me but the service was good and it was very pleasant but expensive. All in all we had a great trip and loved the Westin, the service and quality of food lived up to 5 star status. Would highly recommend.
"A beautiful spot for vacation in style"
There is not much to say, but definitely one of the best choices to stay on Mauritius. The ambiance is beautiful, high quality crafted and constructed. The rooms are huge (!!!) and offer all expected 5* comfort. The service and attendance are extraordinary. The buffet(s) and the restaurants offer a nice variety of dishes and tastes. The menu of cocktails at the bar(s) is big. BUT: some of the cocktails you need to specify what you want, as a Caipirinha might not be made with Cachaca (as it had to be, and as mentioned in the menu), and - be VERY careful ordering a bottle of Red - it may come directly out of the fridge ... and then you need to order in advance giving it a chance to warm up to drinking temperature (which is no problem at all, but good to know in advance). Personally we have been pleased by the greta attention towards our wish to change the room despite the fact of being fully booked. The management was very much engaged in order to meet our wish - tons of thx again for this greta service here. Definitely a place to recommend and to come again!
"Hit and miss"
We have just returned from a 10 day holiday from here, in one word "disappointing". This resort could be so good, but so many little things detract from what it should be. We have stayed in a number of Westin hotels over the years and this one is not the standard. Good: - very nice hotel with great facilities and great location - some of the staff are great - 5 different restaurants to choose from that offer different cuisine (benjo at the Beach Grill, is outstanding. I would like my employees to have his attitude) - we had an issue with pigeon poo on our balcony and it not being cleaned up, I complained at reception and they went over the top to fix it and triple check that it was satisfactory. Not so good: - "service with a snarl" by many of the staff which was generally very slow - a feeling of being in a McDonalds with constant upsizing of the all inclusive package. Either make it all inclusive with the odd extra charge (eg. Lobster night), but not continuous. - the all inclusive package was good, but a constant battle with what was in and what wasn't (Never had this before with this type of package). Funny how they want to cut you off as soon as you get to their limit, but no credit for the number of meals you do not use when out sight seeing or ordering room service'' Ever hear of unders and overs' - a number of people in our group tried to book a massage at the spa, no-one was able to get in unless you book at least a day or two in advance - is it Westin standard to issue pool towels that are tattered and torn' - when we had an argument on the last day and asked to speak to a manager, they sent us a girl from reception. She told us it was in the fine print and we were advised at check I. Seriously'' We are on holidays, checked in after midnight our time, after 10 hours of travel and she had to go through all of the rules of the resort as we were all falling asleep sitting in reception. We told her we were tired and wanted to go to bed, but she insisted she had to advise us of the rules of our package. To sum up, I would say, very nice place, be careful and make sure you have a very good understanding of what your package includes. Some staff are great, some need to think about whether that is really the industry they want to be in. If so, upskill.
"5 Star Holiday "
We booked through Virgin Holidays for our honeymoon & had no idea what to expect of the hotel or Mauritius. We were very pleasantly surprised as the hotel is 5 star quality for location, service, comfort & facilities. Mauritius is a beautiful island and the people are very generous & friendly. The Beach Grill is the best restaurant & I would like to thank Benjo, Shakti & the team for the delicious food, friendly service & kindness. They went out of their way to make our holiday a very memorable & pleasant experience. The quality of service & food in the hotel is 5 star & the staff are very friendly & take pride in providing a great service. Room 1203 is amazing, you are right on the beach and can watch the sun set from your balcony. The other advantage of this fantastic room is that you are near the Beach Grill restaurant, adult pool & buffet restaurant. The hotel gardens are immaculate & there are lots of shady spots by the beach & pool which makes using the facilities very pleasant. The hotel is very spacious & you never feel on top of the other guests. My only criticism is that even if you are all inclusive, eating & drinking is very expensive at the hotel. The supplement of 1,500 Rupees towards meals at the restaurants is not very generous & if you go over the allowance the restaurants charge you an additional service charge that is not very well explained. All in all a wonderful holiday, if you want to experience 5 star service & be pampered, this is the place to come. Thank you to all the staff that made our honeymoon very special, we will definitely be back.
