"Easter high tea a highlight"
We booked an Easter-inspired high tea we saw advertised in the week leading up to Easter, for Easter Monday. We were really happy with the experience on the day, but the administrative issues we experienced in the lead up weren't so great. I booked online, and requested a high chair, advising a 2 yo toddler would be accompanying us (2 adults). I received an email confirmation (apparently from the Venues Manager, Food and Beverage, according to his email signature) At that point, I unfortunately also overlooked the fact that the email confirmation stated the wrong date (Easter Sunday instead of our requested date for Easter Monday). I received a phone call the next day requesting my credit card details and the policy for charging - fair enough, but I don't think the website indicated this to me when I booked online, so it was a bit of a surprise. The staff member concluded by saying "we look forward to seeing you on Sunday" and only at that point did I realise the mistake and clarified with him that the booking was for Monday. He said he'd fixed it. The next day I got another phone call requesting for my credit card details. I advised it had already been provided the previous day, but it made me feel uneasy, as though the booking was still for the wrong day... I called back to confirm my booking was for Monday, and asked for a confirmation email to be resent with the right date, but was told the system they used could not do that. I tried to reply to the email I had received originally to correct the date, but it bounced back as the Westin "only accepts messages from people within its organisation or on its allowed senders list". So I guess I kept my expectations low for the day, but the actual high tea experience was fantastic, in that we had attentive and warm staff, the surrounds of the lobby was plush, comfortable, and felt luxurious without being over the top. We were also a bit unsure how well received our 2 yo would be, but didn't have to worry. We had a fantastic staff member who looked after his babycino needs and was very attentive without being intrusive. We asked for more cream for our scones and that took a while to come (something about having to go to the kitchens which must be far away). Both the scones (classic vanilla and spiced sultana/honey) were really enjoyable. The savouries were a hit (great variety and interesting combos), we loved the blue swimmer crab, grapefruit, fennel remoulade in a soft roll. We're not really into sweets, but the "chocolate carrot patch cups" were cute to boot, and its mousse and chocolate "dirt" was quite yummy, and I enjoyed the coconut velvet cake, whereas hubby liked the pumpkin cheesecake with maple pecan crumble (I thought the pumpkin flavour could be stronger). Our 2 yo enjoyed being able to go out onto the balcony looking over the Square and looking for trams. I don't know how much the metro rail tunnel work under the hotel will affect their services and amenities - I hope it doesn't, as I would love to book a weekend stay some time to enjoy more of this hotel. And we would be keen to go back for another high tea, eg, a more "traditional" one rather than this Easter-inspired one. Great value too, for $49 per person with unlimited tea, coffee, hot chocolate. We didn't feel the need for a glass of bubbles or anything else...
This large 5 star hotel itself is very nice. Grand driveway, lovely lobby, gym & pool and the location is about as central as you can get. Our deluxe room was spacious, modern, clean and serviced every day and had great views of Fed square. The staff though seemed rather uninterested in the guests. When I arrived my room wasn't ready so I fancied a pub lunch while I waited. Not being from the area I asked the Concierge on the driveway for a nice local pub for lunch with free wi fi. He looked at me me puzzled and said turn right out of the hotel and about a block down there are some cafes. Not what I had asked! Low and behold 1 block away I find Young and Jackson an iconic Melbourne pub with great lunch and free wi fi. Go figure. We encountered this same Concierge on 2 other occasions during our stay and his service was consistently flaky. On my return to reception I collect my room key. Having never stayed at the hotel before I receive no information on the hotel services, facilities or how to operate the lift with the room key or how get to my room.In fact I encountered several other guests in the lift during our 4 day stay that I had to show how to use the lift. The service issues didn't ruin our stay its just not what i had expected and I felt disappointed. I must say Ian at the Concierge was helpful and friendly and the housekeepers on our floor would always say hello.
"All Class and Perfect Location At Very Reasonable Rates"
The Westin is in the absolute centre of the city, close to restaurants, theatres and other entertainment. Not only that but it has a lovely ambience and attentive service in all parts of the hotel. The design and layout of the venue is modern but still has an "old world" look and ambience and has a "warmth" that is missing from some other Melbourne hotels. If you are going to see a production at the Regent Theatre, there is no better location as it is virtually "on site". At every turn there was "service with a smile" and the rates were very reasonable, even on a notional "long weekend". We loved the style and architecture which were "classy". We were a little disappointed that internet fees were being charged in this day and age but delighted that management were responsive and removed the internet fee when we raised our concerns. Client first is clearly the Hotel's drive. The restaurant, Allegro, is also first class and reasonably priced with very attentive service. A delightful stay in an amazingly convenient location, a first of which there will be many for us.
"Welcoming and hospitality hotel"
All staffs had always nice smiling and greeting every time I met during our staying. And also gave us the information about the place wherever we want to visit. The room was so specious beyond my expectation and the bed was very comfy. We will absolutely come back the Westin Melbourne next time. ( here is better quality than the Westin Sydney ).
"3 Night weekend Get Away"
Recently spent 3 nights here for a quick get away. The service of the staff, the room and all around were of high standard. We were fortunate to book a room with a Juliette Balcony (which was a nice touch) The location is very central, right in the middle of the city. Trams are running past the hotel which is a big plus. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Melbourne
