"NOLA hotel stay"
The Westin is located right adjacent to the French Quarter and the Mississippi River. River front rooms offer you the ability to see the movement of tug boats and barges traveling the river, along with River Boat paddle ships and ocean vessels, all navigating the crescent river turn right in front of the hotel. Great staff, wonderfully located facility, and close to everything. We highly recommend this Westin hotel!
"Great Hotel, but could use a little updating"
Beautiful hotel in a great location. The staff was quite good; attentive, friendly and helpful in all ways. The rooms were very clean, although the bathrooms (also very clean) could use a bit of an update. Not that there was anything wrong, they were just showing a bit of wear and tear.
The views from our room on the 23rd floor were amazing. I spent a lot of time at our window watching the ships on the river make the tight right turn just downstream. The location was convenient to the French Quarter and the aquarium. Having to check in on the 11th floor was weird, and I wasn't crazy about the Las Vegas-style retail shops on floors 1-3, but the hotel part was comfortable and clean. Our stay here was paid for by my wife's employer, so cost wasn't an issue.
"Some high points but disappointing over all..."
I spend 100+ nights per year in all levels of accommodations and maintain status with Marriott and Hilton.Additionally I've been traveling to NOLA regularly for 17 years. However honest, I wish my review was more positive... The Good Stuff First: Location and security of property is excellent. All interactions with the many bellman were friendly and professional. Heavenly bed/bedding was wonderful. Quality of food and drink at the hotel restaurant was great. Hotel public areas look to have been recently updated; very inviting, comfortable and functional. Areas that fell short or just completely failed: Poorly trained front desk staff. Lacking in established standards for check-in and check-out. Not friendly or appreciative towards guests. Interacted with 3 front desk ladies and a fourth person on the phone to simply get a letter mailed. Total ordeal for no reason... Restaurant wait staff of the same poor quality as the front desk. However the restaurant hostess was always delightful. In regards to my Bienville suite; oddly configured, dated and visibly worm. Poor lighting/too dark.Missing any floor lamps' Broken down/worm sofa Foyer dresser/cabinet with useless small draws' Same for the console under the living room TV. TV function and reception in living room totally bad. Refrigerator in bedroom instead of living room' Toilet; very old, did not work well. Bidet; very old and covered in rust Bathtub coating pealing off in large segments. Went to run a bath and water was full of paint chips. No bath towels in the water closet/bath tub area' No towel bars anywhere' Old single vanity in place where there should be two' Vanity mirror mounted too low for anyone 6' tall. Only full length mirror is next to the font door' Short staffed or slow room attendant' Suite was never serviced before 3:00pm each day. Noisy/loud; constant elevator sounds and unexpected street noise. In conclusion; however not a bad hotel; the Westin Canal Place is a perfect example of how Starwood properties have fallen behind in customer service, design and functionality. I've had similar disappointing experiences at Sheraton's, W's, and other Westins.
We spent 5 days at this hotel. I think the property is lovely and the location is great. I was disappointed in a few things. The rooms are large, and there were 3 of us, so we requested 2 beds. Not sure I've ever stayed in a 4 star hotel that had double beds, instead of queen sized, and the sheets left a lot to be desired. The cleaning staff was friendly but we had to request service, it was not done automatically. We had a refrigerator in the room, but it was locked. Also thought it odd that there was no fan in the bathroom, lots of humidity after 3 showers. Also, the website touts a "heated rooftop outdoor pool" which doesn't exist. So, I probably won't stay there again, a little too pricey for the whole experience.
