Loved everything about this hotel. Beautiful building, inside and out, the photographs don't do it justice and make it look a bit old fashioned which it is not. The stained glass dome in the restaurant is stunning! Great location opposite the Prado and other museums, 5 mins walk from the Retiro park. Taxis always available outside, and only 30 Euros to the airport. Everything else is within easy walking distance. Make sure you get breakfast included as it is well worth it. There is a huge buffet selection with a chef on hand to cook eggs as you like them, and as many as you like. The staff are very attentive and constantly topping up your tea and coffee. Freshly squeezed orange juice and other juices including vegetable. We had a deluxe King room on the 2nd floor with very comfy bed and hot power shower, robes, slippers, iron, etc. Maid always around to ask for extra items. Thoroughly recommended.
"Nice hotel in a great location"
We had a great stay and really enjoyed the hotel. Our room was very nice and looked to be recently updated. The hotel was in a great location within walking distance of many of the main attractions in the city. The service was good and the hotel was in good condition. We would recommend the hotel and stay here again on our next visit.
An old Madrid classic, this former palace of the Duque de Lerma opened as a hotel in 1911 and was Spain’s second luxury hotel. Ever since, it has looked out across Plaza de Neptuno at its rival, the Ritz, like a lover unjustly scorned. It may not have the world-famous cachet of the Ritz, but it’s not called the Palace for nothing. After the snooty Ritz banned actors and other public performers in the early 20th century, the Palace became the hotel of choice for celebrities – Mata Hari lived here during WWI and her ghost reportedly occupies the corridors, while Hemingway, Dalí and Lorca were all regulars in the cocktail bar.
"Gem in the heart of the city"
Great hotel in the heart of downtown Madrid. Old Town, Porta de Sol, Plaza Major, Museums, Royale Palace, Parks all with walking distance. Quiet for sleeping but can be out and about for any event as everything is so close.
"Not the ususal Starwood Standard"
I have a life status with SPG and travel worldwide - the hotel disappoints and is not the usual SPG or Westin Standard. Renovations ongoing in the hotel could be heard in the room we where provided. Breakfast was chaotic and food quality also poor.
