"Christmas in Madrid"
The Westin was amazing. I originally booked a premium room and was upgraded with suite nights to a junior suite. The junior suite was sort of old and a little tattered but we liked it just fine for the first four nights. I also booked two free nights with points in a deluxe room and our suite nights did not come through. However, since I am platinum Starwood we were upgraded to a premium room right in front of the Neptune Fountain. This room was amazing and we would have preferred it the whole stay over the old looking junior suite with interior views. We thought the Westin was amazing and the location was incredible. Brunch on Christmas Day was truly amazing, we sat there for over three hours with all you could drink wine and champagne and all the most amazing food around. Filet, lobster, crab legs, pate, tapas, fish, you name it and it was there for the taking The only cons: exchanging money is hard in Madrid (banks don't do it) so you are always paying a commission. The hotel said their commission was 10% but go to Sol and it would on be 4 or so - wrong it was 22 so just do it at the hotel. Do it the night before because in the morning you can't get near the desk to change money, ask a question for do anything else as it is so crowded with check in and check out. We missed our train trying to get money changed and waiting in line for over 45 minutes. The wine in the bar is the same they sell everywhere else including across the street for for much less so don't drink at the hotel unless you want to be robbed. In any event, we did love this place and would return.
Westin is always good, but the Palace is great. Staff is very friendly and they will help you with whatever you need. My room had incredible views and I really enjoyed the breakfast. Toiletries are of an exquisit quality. Thanks for the amazing stay ;)
"Fantastic location "
It's a classic 5 stars hotel , from check in to check out staff were professional and they did accommodate all our requests , room was good size and the king bed was comfortable , it came with a complimentary coffee tea or hot chocolate once a day per person so that was a nice treat , love the location walking distance to two beautiful museums , about 10mins walk to a lot of shops restaurants and subway. Beware of pick pocket even when you are in a not crowded places almost got wallet stolen in a clothing store , ladies always wear your purse in front of you ! Overall great food cheap price compare most of the major city in Europe will definitely come back and stay at this beautiful hotel again !
This hotel is definitely an old school classic hotel, so old school that though it is four stars they do not walk you to your room or show you around the place =/ this was odd! It is quite a large hotel so bellboys are hard to come by, service is a bit slow during breakfast due to the amount of people however hotel is distinctive and within walking distance of many famous museums.
"A wonderful weekend in the Palace"
We spent a long weekend (Thursday - Sunday) in the Palace adn really enjoyed ourselves. We were offered a multiple upgrade upon check-in (part for free and part we had to pay). I cannot judge the restaurants as we did not eat in the hotel, but the room service (for drinks) was very good, even when dealing with our more complex wishes, and very fast. The bar services (in the lounge area) was highly competent and they tried very hard to speak English with us. The only "disappointment " was that, although the staff knew that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, we did not receive anything from the hotel. A small local gift would have been a nice token.
