"Overall a great stay"
Agree with other reviews that despite this being a (relatively) recently constructed hotel it is quite dated and even a little run down in places, but still very happy with the stay. We staying in one of the rooms (not villas) with a plunge pool which was nice. The room next to us, which we would have shared the pool with was under construction so we had it to ourselves. The spa was lovely but you are in Thailand and you can get 10 massages at 10,000 other places for what we paid for one here. The hallway to our room was dark and had a funky, mildew smell which really bothered my mom every time we walked there, but eh--its the tropics. The beds, as at all Westins, are amazing, and the staff made little animals with our towels and fresh flowers every day. Its on a hill as mentioned, but the golf cart service is quick. The food was fine, nothing spectacular but above average. Nice, expansive breakfast buffet which was included. What really makes this place worth it and will make me go back is the staff--they were out of this world. About two weeks before I booked, a "personal concierge" emailed me and asked if there was anything she could do, and was very helpful ironing out details of independent tours we had booked (no small feat since we were on opposite time zones and I speak no Thai), then knew us by name and met us at reception when we checked in. It was me and my mom's birthday trip, which I had really only mentioned in passing, and when we got to our room there was a personalized cake for both of us and everywhere we went from the pool to the restaurant they seemed to know us and wished us happy birthday. Granted, it wasn't super crowded, but there were enough other guests there that this really impressed me. I'm a SPG Gold member so maybe that's part of the reason, but I have never had such personal service like this before.
It's a great hotel if you wanna stay and relax for a few days. The room is spacious and modern with absolutely everything you 'll need. All rooms have view to the sea. You are on a tropical island, so you might discover a small lizard in your room.. I had one! If you 're not afraid, take it easy and just call reception. Good hospitality with very helpful and kind employees, at the front desc, at room service, at the pool, even the guys who transport you to your room. Food was nice in normal prices. The beach in front of the hotel is quite bad, small and muddy, so you'd better choose one of the pools! If you wanna go to the city of Phuket, it's a bit far away, so you 'd better take a taxi, cause the hotel's transportation is pricy. Don't forget to bargain with the local taxi drivers!
"Nice hotel, but"
Spent a week here with my wife for the first time. We have stayed in many Thailand towns and resorts and moved onto the Le Méridien Patong following this visit. The rooms whist spacious are a little dated but all have beautiful ocean views. The resort is built on a cliff so is very hilly and is spread out, so most movement within the resort requires the calling for a golf buggy which arrives in good time. Pools are good and the resort has a small private beach. It is located about 15 minutes out from Phuket town so a vehicle is required to and from town. The hotel bus is 150 Bht per person each way. A taxi from outside of the hotel (town) will charge 200 Bht each way for 3/4 people. The taxi's located inside the hotel grounds charge 600 Bht each way (a rip off) so you are better to get the bus into town first time, then get a taxi home ensuring you get his phone number for future journeys (unless you are only 1 person the the bus is the best option). The service was excellent and breakfast was good, but the restaurant food and we tried all three, is very disappointing and in my opinion sub standard and over priced. There is no entertainment on site. and you are reasonably isolated. So transport into town is frequent and depending on mode can be $16 to $48 a day for one return trip. Hits and misses for this hotel.
What a welcome surprise when you are upgraded to a private villa with infinity pool and the works. Amazing food, amazing hospitality , amazing views !! The only drawback however , is the location. It is far from the city so stay here only if you have no other touristy plans.
