"Excellent service and a wonderful location"
We had a room on the top floor with a terrace and jacuzzi with great views. Continental Breakfast was good ( we had it included in our package ). Service at the hotel was excellent and all the staff were very good. Great location within Mdina. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom ok but shower was poor for the quality of the hotel. Some of the furnishings in the room looked a little tired although the room was clean and nicely arranged. We very much enjoyed our 5 night stay.

Wonderful stay in a suite with amazing views & hot tub on terrace. Everything was excellent we had both breakfast & evening meal in restaurant couldn't fault anything. Appreciate other reviewers comments on bathroom fittings however, non of this detracted from our 3 day stay. In fact some small things just added to the charm of this boutique hotel. Staff very nice, also airport pick up seamless. Thank you for making our anniversary so special.
Fantastic stay at this beautiful hotel. The staff are wonderful. The bed was so comfortable and room very clean . Room with a hot tub is a must! We hope to return once the bathroom updates are completed
"Quiet and relaxing."
Spent 2 nights at the Xara Palace and had a lovely stay. We booked ahead and on arrival all was offered a discounted upgrade to a room with terrace, view and hot tub, great choice as the weather was brilliant. We made much use of it. Hotel is situated in the Historic town, small and everything within 600 metres. A good number of excellent restaurants nearby, try the Medina Restaurant, owned by the hotel really good. Delightful hotel, great service, breakfast not included but again very good and you can eat on the sun terrace. Room satisfactory, a little on the old fashioned side, a bit chintzy for me. Had all required amenities and bed very comfy. A few niggles and would normally knock a point off for this but haven't as overall stay was really great: bathroom was not to standard, sink only emptied if plug fully removed and no fitted shower. Overhead was attached to taps as opposed to a fully fitted shower, meaning very hard to get consistent temp and not at all "power shower" in any way. Did cause me a few problems as too hot then too cold and made whole shower experience a bit of a drama. Also very low doorways and I bumped my head many many times. No sign or padding, would suggest this is rectified. Hot tub and sun terrace did make up but I would not have been so forgiving if this had not been the case. Would recommend and lovely staff and picturesque village.
I read previous reviews on this 5 star hotel and that informed my decision. Frankly, I was disappointed. I appreciate that this is a 17thC palace and there are limitations/restrictions on what can be done to the property but.... The shower was very poor - water flow was almost non-existent and showering became a time-consuming chore. Breakfast is pricey and poor value for money. The 'continental' breakfast offers limited range and the cooked version was a hit and miss affair. The lounge area included a small sofa and probably the tiniest TV you will ever see. The latter was inside a glass-fronted cabinet whose doors were prone to come close to closing, adding unwanted reflections. On two mornings, workers started around 07.00 making loud noises with building works. The lobby/reception area was uninspiring and frankly unwelcoming as well, in February, cold.
