"Superb all round"
Located in the heart of the old city, the Xara Palace is really something special. Room 2 was a duplex suite with living area and bathroom on the main level and bedroom on a mezzanine floor. The large window only overlooked a wall but as I was staying only one night and the weather was foul that wasn't a problem - the suite was warm, cosy and comfortably furnished. A highlight was that my visit coincided with a special event: a white truffle dinner of five courses, paired with Tuscan wines. The food and service were second to none. All the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and professional, as you would expect in a hotel of this quality. I wasn't surprised to hear that so many eminent people have stayed here.
"Wonderful history and hospitality"
The hotel and its staff were simply outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble and their care of my husband and I from our welcoming drinks, through to ensuring our dinner reservations at the Hotel's Medina restaurant were confirmed, was simply outstanding. The property is first rate and will delight antique and architecture aficionados with the respect shown for its heritage values.
"Beautiful location and great people "
The location is second to none in Malta, after doing a tour of the island I can honestly say we picked the best location. Mdnia itself is picturesque and peaceful (so much so that it can eerie at night as there is no sound at all!) The hotel is like staying in a little slice of history which is actually rather wonderful, and the rooms are relatively spacious too. The welcome was warm and the people working there are phenomenal, so helpful on all aspects and they really go the extra mile. The reason for the 4 rating rather than the 5 was just a few niggly bits on the room. Our room, number 12, although very clean, could of used a bit of extra TLC - the bathroom needed re-grouting and there were stains on the carpet floor. Just quite a bit of wear and tear all over. Also the blind we had wasn't actually long enough for the window so the light poured in every morning, when we sometimes wanted to lie in past 8am. The bell on the door below at reception was also quite noisy, if we were staying in the room across (which was directly above - room 10) and in peak season I can imagine this would of drove us a little crazy as it was loud for us already. All in all a great hotel, and we would stay again, but maybe next time we would pay for an upgrade. Based on the building every room will be different so it's worth booking, even for the location alone
"Wonderful Maltese Hospitality"
A serene property, staffed by wonderfully courteous and kind hosts. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, albeit in a classical rather than contemporary decor. Internet connection is reliable and relatively fast. The restaurants swerve tasty and well prepared foods, the breakfast room is quiet and serene, albeit the breakfast selection might be upgraded a bit-however that is a personal quibble-those I was with were quite satisfied with the offering. The gym is very small, however I suspect that for most guests this is not a concern form interest. The surroundings are quiet in winter-I suspect they are busier in the summer-with a atmospheric and authentic feel All in All a first rate property, with first rate staff-highly recommended
"Luxurious details @ every turn, & a staff of true professionals"
We literally wandered into its sumptious lobby without a reservation last week after determining that staying in the AirB&B we rented would result in hypothermia. Despite that bit of a rough start to our stay we're so very, very glad we stumbled upon this oasis of old world luxury with 21st century amenities and a staff of true professionals. We'll be back for certain.
