The Thompson Chicago soars high above tree-lined streets in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood. This accommodation showcases classic architecture with traces of Gothic influence. Located 1 block from the Magnificent Mile's world-renowned shopping corridor and the electric nightlife along Rush Street, this hotel stands 2 blocks from Oak Street boutiques and the hike-and-bike path along Lake Michigan. The Observatory and the Museum of Contemporary Art are located 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) from this property. The Thompson Chicago is also close to the train station.
"Wonderful Hotel & Location"
We stayed 10 nights over Christmas & enjoyed every minute. The industrial chic design in lobby, the relaxed atmosphere, the popular bar & restaurant, a quiet and spacious room...everything was wonderful. There was free tea & coffee available from the lobby bar every morning and during Winter that's particularly welcomed. The location is within 30 seconds of at least eight restaurants and many high-end shops. Our room (a standard king) was quiet, the bed very comfortable, the bathroom was huge, free wifi was fast, and even with two large suitcases we never felt cramped (there's a corner sofa in the room plus a writing desk and bureau). Staff are vert professional and I'd definitely recommend the hotel to friends. Well done!
"Losing its Luster"
I love this end of Michigan Avenue. In the past this has been a great place to stay with relatively consistent service at a decent price. This visit put The Thompson at the bottom of my tried-and-true list. Disappointing. We were there on the coldest weekend of the year - bitterly cold. When we arrived, the doormen were eager to greet us and help with our luggage. We registered and were asked if we'd stayed before...yes, probably 20 times. The room was good, but the clock was set to the wrong time and so complicated we were unable to change it. I'm sure the housekeeper couldn't figure it out either. The shower drained extremely slow. So slow that the water pooled on the floor and left me wondering whose filth am I standing in' The doormen weren't always there when we needed a cab, but there were usually cabs within range that we could get ourselves. When we checked our bags into storage, someone was right there, but when we needed them, we had to wait. And when we left, no one was at the door to help us.
"Top Place in Town"
Great location, great room, clean and spacious, the staff is very professional and takes care of everything. Nice shops and restaurants just around the corner. Recommended for all that love to enjoy a couple days in chicago.
Everything was well above our expectations. We arrived and the doorman took care of us immediately.....helped us with the best option for our car and getting in/out to make a dinner reservation across town. The rooms were very comfortable, the location is perfect for enjoying chicago and we were very impressed with the decor. It will be our go to address for our many visits to the windy city!
"Terrific place to stay"
We went on an overnight and this was first time we stayed at this hotel. The staff were friendly. Our room was a corner room so we had a terrific view. The room felt spacious and was very comfortable. We loved the decor and the location was close to everything we enjoy. Definitely would go back.
