"Tower23 was the highlight of our San Diego Trip!"
We stayed in the King Surf Pad, #322 and couldn’t have been more impressed with the accommodations. Nice big room with a chaise lounge I used quite a bit, reading in the afternoons staring out at the Pacific, a nice balcony to sit and enjoy your morning coffee, the bed was soft and very comfortable and while you could leave the patio door open all night long and hear the waves, if it did happen to get noisy, the doors are totally and completely sound proof – we couldn’t hear a thing with them shut. Our room was positioned just to the left of the Sun Deck, if you were looking towards the beach so far enough away from the restaurant that we got no noise at all from there. I could see if you were in the other tower, it might bother you because the restaurant is hopping morning, noon and night! We loved the maid and turn down service – they attended to our room no less than 3 times a day to make sure we didn’t need fresh towels, restock our coffee or mini bar and to put chocolates on the pillows at night. The room mini bar was completely stocked with anything you could possibly want – beer, wine, hard alcohol and all kinds of snacks. Most were priced very reasonably and we even enjoyed some beer and a few airplane bottles after we discovered how pricey the drinks at the restaurant were ($12 a cocktail adds up!). The hotel even sent up a complimentary bottle of Prosecco when we arrived because we were celebrating our 20th anniversary – VERY nice touch! We adored the Sun Deck and spent a few evenings there with drinks after dinner, just watching the sun go down by the fire table. We stayed Sunday through Saturday so it was relatively quiet all week long. We did notice more people arriving on Friday and the noise level going up considerably then. The room has a wonderful little communication system with the staff – rather than leaving a tag hanging on your door, there is a Do Not Disturb button by your door along with a Service Room button as well. Our room also had a doorbell, which was handy when they came to service the room and we were relaxing in the afternoon. The location was fabulous – while the Kona Café is convenient right next door, it is insanely busy and I’m sorry, we just weren’t patient enough to wait in that line most mornings. We did use the little coffee bar to get coffee though. Just a few negatives – the coffee and machine supplied in the room are not very good but I’m just not personally a Keurig fan, never makes it strong enough and the bathroom layout was awkward – no door on the toilet area so no privacy if someone else needed to come in the bathroom. The air conditioning vent was situated in an odd place in the room so even with it on full blast (and then some), we never could quite get cool enough at night because it blows directly at the patio door and not the bed. We never used room service but rather wandered around to all of the fabulous local restaurants during our stay but we did celebrate my birthday at the JRDN restaurant and did the Chef’s Tasting menu, which was amazing! I know someone else mentioned the chairs on the balcony being uncomfortable – I have to agree. We sat, or tried to sit out there every day and after about 15 minutes, the hard seat would hurt my rear so I‘d move inside to the chaise. At least it was very easy to move so I didn’t miss anything! Finally, while we loved the proximity to the beach, we never ended up going swimming or even sitting on the beach. There are a lot of homeless people on the boardwalk and beach, plus tons of surfers and their crowds every day. We never saw anything shady happen but just not a place we cared to hang out. The water was WAY too cold for swimming anyway, even in September and even a pool wouldn’t have helped – it was only in the low 70s during our entire stay! That didn’t take away from our stay at all though - we would definitely recommend Tower23 to anyone who wants a true southern California experience with sand, surf and sunsets in style!
"Perfect location and amazing visit!"
Beautiful, modern hotel with a perfect location in Pacific Beach. Major perks include the free welcome drink (much appreciated after a long flight), free bikes for rent and beach supplies. Great customer service, Garrett at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful and the garage attendants were great! Really enjoyed the stay - will definitely return!
"Good choice although pricy."
Close to the beach, that is nice in spite of the many male surfers finding it necessary to dress and undress in the middle of the street in front of the hotel, good breakfast, good bed, overall friendly and helpful employees.
"Can't wait to return!"
Stayed in Surf Pad #307 for 4 nights 9/29-10/2. Garrett at the front desk was outstanding - a true ambassador for Tower 23. Room was available early, and was immaculate. This is the best location on PB, directly in front of stairs down to beach, pier, and the walk path that goes all along the ocean front in both directions. Garage attendants gladly helped daily with surf boards, etc and were truly service oriented. Free bikes, free secure surf board storage with easy in/out. WiFi always worked. JRDN is THE happy hour place to be daily (dinners there were great as well)! Second floor open balcony with sofas/chaise lounges and fire pits was a very cool place to relax w/cocktails and take it all in. Loved everything about Tower23, and will definitely return.
"Can't beat Pacific Beach Location!"
This is my second stay at this property and I will be coming back on my next business trip. The location is great and close to many great beach hang outs such as bars and breakfast places. The property restaurant and bar is very good and staffed with very courteous people. The rooms are well appointed and the bedding is nothing short of spectacular!!!. The unexpected turned down was a nice surprise. You WILL NOT be disappointed for the value!!
